Ross Set for Further Town Talks Today
Thursday, 17th May 2018 09:11

St Mirren boss Jack Ross is reportedly set to hold talks with the Blues for a second time today.

According to the Daily Record, Ross will meet with Town again today having initially spoken to owner Marcus Evans last week.

As reported by TWTD yesterday, they similarly understand Ross and Shrewsbury manager Paul Hurst are now the only two contenders to take over at Portman Road.

While Ross greatly impressed Evans at their previous meeting, Town remain keen to speak to Hurst, but talks won’t take place with the former Ilkeston, Boston and Grimsby boss until after Shrewsbury’s League One play-off final against Rotherham a week on Sunday.

In his recent interview with iFollow, Evans said he expected to make the appointment late in May or in early June and that remains his timetable as things stand.

However, it’s not impossible that that could change if Evans becomes convinced that Ross is the man to succeed Mick McCarthy prior to Hurst being in a position to discuss the role.

Ross is an increasingly strong favourite to take over at Town, now at 3-1 odds-on with Bet Victor, with Hurst at 6-1 and Tim Sherwood, who was also interviewed, at 16-1.

Scott Parker, another of those interviewed by Evans, and Simon Grayson are at 20-1, while George Burley, Graham Potter, Paul Cook, John McGreal, Mark Warburton, who is the 13-8 favourite for the Bradford job, Shefki Kuqi, who wasn’t interviewed by despite applying, and Tony Mowbray are all at 25-1.

Most employers for important jobs would ask for a second interview..at least its good to see Evans taking a more considered line on the process rather than the shoot from the hip method that football in general takes. You ought to try to get a job nowadays..submit your CV with your credentials and work history ..if you are lucky get an interview. Get on shortlist for second interview where you will be asked further searching questions and probably make a 10 minute presentation on what you can bring to the position etc..

In addition Jack Ross would want to assess the stadium/training facilities and importantly bring his family down to look at the area in which they will potentially live.

I really like the look of JR ..he looks like in the Ipswich mould ...I hope we get him and he gets the support from every quarter and bring back not just success but enjoyment to our football club again....the previous incumbents just didn't get it at all..lets hope Evans has given JR the right job descr
throughout the interview process.

Just do it, forget about hurst.
If he wins, he might not be interested, if he looses, then we are hiring him as someone less appealing...

Having gone this far I think it's a pretty safe bet if he is coming it will be this weekend. If it's not then forget it. Because it's either Hurst or start again.

Totally agree dirtyding. If I was Ross I'd be thinking/saying "if you want me offer it." I wouldn't be happy if I was him waiting to see if Hurst turns it down first. If Hurst was offered it and turned it down Ross could BBC easily

Fed up of folk that say he's only managing in Scotland where the football isn't as good, ok it may not be but this doesn't make Jack Ross a poorer option! His football is very entertaining, he has turned St Mirren around when they were on their knees & won the league this year at a canter. I have watched some of his interviews & he comes across as a very level headed guy who absolutely loves the job he does. If he gets the job which looks increasingly likely I think he'll do a very good job for us, in Evans we trust ( fingers & toes crossed) COYB

Nazemariner - i quite agree. Normally when I am interviewing the first interview is simply to establish the suitability for the role and whether both parties have an interested in working together. The second interview is to discuss terms and cover all points not discussed first time around.
If this is true (re the second meeting) then I would suggest that ME wants him since I think he will have enough experience to know that making him wait until he sees Hurst would be both disrespectful and prompt a refusal if offered the job eventually.

Looks the perfect fit, there's a huge thread about him on the St Mirren forum and they reckon he's the next Alex Ferguson. Can't wait.

Evans needs to get this deal done today Ross looks a good bet to me, I like what I have read about him, if we fanny around and don't get him there are other managerless clubs out there who will snap him up and we lose out

If Shrewsbury go up, surely Hurst will want to stay there anyway? At least give it a go for a year and try to finish what he started, so to speak. Why move to another club in the same league if you're doing an amazing job where you are?

That's just worth remembering. Not being negative!

There are some dummies on here. Most interviews have a process. When hurst interviews Evans's can decide he favours Ross or decide to ask further questions in a second interview. I suspect Ross was Told Upfront the process as all candidates for a job usually are. Unless Ross demands a hire me or forget me scenario ME is I assume not straying from what he told candidates. All
Of you chill out. Unless you have a crystal ball saying Ross will get us up and no one else.... in which case you are a superstitious moron... relax

Ross seems like an excellent option and the very mould of a manager most fans have been calling out for. I think it is looking exxtremely likely that he will be appointed over the coming days & I would completely agree with @dugoutdave's analysis above.
Personally, I was hoping for Hurst from the start, but I knew little of Ross at that time. As the proposed names stared to emerge, he quickly joined my top 3, along with White from Taipei. As of now, I would be more than happy to hear th=at the 2nd meeting went well & Ross was being appointed. The only additional benefit from Hurst would be his knowledge of the lower English leagues and the contacts he would have established ove the last few years.

Nazemariner Why in the world are you happy with 7th place we'be been in this blinking championship for way too long I certainly will not be happy with 7th place in fact why shouldn't we be going for automatic promotion lots of goals and passing from the back the budgies can stay in their cage. Ross in for me

Honest and genuine, martim587, that might be the stumbling block.

think Hurst has much on his plate with Shrewsbury if they get promoted or not.

Not that it matters now, but come on

Best news of week, either of these 2 would be exciting for the club. Hurst may have achieved more, but Ross may have more hunger to prove himself. But then what do we know? Would love to be fly on wall in interviews.
