Town to Face Crawley at East Grinstead in Pre-Season
Friday, 18th May 2018 15:10

The Blues will play a friendly against League Two Crawley Town at East Grinstead Town’s East Court on Tuesday 17th July (KO 7.30pm).

Crawley’s Checkatrade Stadium is undergoing extensive work on its pitch this summer meaning the Reds will be hosting two pre-season games at East Grinstead.

Former Blues defender Josh Yorwerth was named Crawley's 2017/18 Young Player of the Year.

Town's pre-season programme is beginning to emerge with friendlies away against the MK Dons and Braintree also announced.

The squad will spend the usual week training at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare before playing one Ireland-based friendly which is still to be confirmed, although is understood to be at last year’s opponents Drogheda United.

Further matches away against relatively local League One and League Two clubs are likely to be confirmed with the Blues expected to play their final friendly at home, as had been the tradition up to the last couple of seasons.

A young Blues side will play a friendly away against Grays Athletic at some point during pre-season as part of the deal which saw Kai Brown join Town in January, while we understand a game away against Brightlingsea Regent has been pencilled in for Saturday 14th July.

Expect to see confirmation of Bury Town, Leiston, Cambridge, Colchester with a high profile curtain raising home tie against Peterborough to follow, probably...

Well happy with this - a new non-league ground to visit!

After last years no home friendly let down, during the darkest days of fan contempt, I would like to think that in these [allegedly] more enlightened times we can expect an announcement of at the very least a mid ranking Premier side at PR as the curtain raiser.

Things do at least sound better on pretty much every front, but nothing has actually happened yet.

Talk is cheap - they have yet to earn my trust.

What's boring about it 12th man? It isn't the usual "Cambridge, Peterborough" you've been harping on about and it's at a ground we've never played at before, so why boring?

Not sure pre-season is exciting
We went to Den Bosch a few years ago - it hammered it down with rain all week- the game was dreadful
Playing a mid premier league reserve team would be pretty dull

We seem to loan a load of players to Aldershot and this would be a good old style ground to tick off

I went to Crawley a couple years ago and it was a dire 90mins.
What would constitute a good set of pre season games to you lot?

St Mirren?

How drab. How about a decent European team at home. Get the enthusiasm going for the season. Dull, dull, dull.

We're here, we're there, we're every...

Just 10 mins away from me which will be nice. I hope the Town supporting boss of Imberhorne Lane Nurseries in East Grinstead is aware- he literally flies the Town flag at his premises.
