Town Linked With Move for Forest Winger McKay
Thursday, 28th Jun 2018 16:18

Town are reported to have made an enquiry to Nottingham Forest regarding winger Barrie McKay.

According to Football Insider, the Blues have made an approach for the 23-year-old, who joined Forest from Rangers last summer for a fee of £500,000.

Forest are said to be open to offers for the Paisley-born wideman, who can also play up front. Earlier this month, the once-capped Scotland international, who is contracted until 2021, was strongly linked with a move to Greek side Olympiacos.

McKay, who had spells on loan at Greenock Morton and Raith Rovers while at Rangers having come through their youth ranks after a spell with Kilmarnock as a schoolboy, made 22 starts and four sub appearances for Forest last season, scoring five times, but was rarely involved after Aitor Karanka took over as boss from his former Ibrox manager Mark Warburton.

Blues boss Paul Hurst, who has cash at his disposal following the sale of Adam Webster, has said adding wingers to his squad is a priority having secured the signing of former Crawley man Jordan Roberts earlier today.

Looks like Hurst has been watching England at the world cup and wants a young hungry team for the new season?

On his day at Rangers Barrie was absolutely unstoppable, but meant missing in too many games. Warburton took him down to Forest & the same thing again, would have a good game then a spate of poor games. If this link is true though I think this could be a great signing for the club & he would be linking up with Garner & Wags again. If he is playing in a good side & getting plenty of the ball he is a great player as long as his heart is in it & doesn't go missing! Also when he scores they are normally belters! COYB

Would be happy with this, so long as it does not aid a reported move for Waghorn from Forest.

Guess if we sign anyone else from rangers, it will eventually answer the question to see if they can cut it in the English league

I remember Rangers fans complaining about how well Garner, Waghorn and McKay started life in the Championship last season. While I don't want us to become Rangers Rejects, the last two men we took in with recent Ibrox experience have served us pretty well if you ask me. Sounds an interesting proposition for the right price.

Naa, if you want a young, hungry squad you close Nandos ;)

It looks like he really wants to keep the spine of the team but freshen things up and make things more balanced. I have positive feelings for the new season.

This boy is a natural winger.. takes defenders on.. can cross.. link up play.. and has a wonderfull shot on him.. now this would be a good signing... let's hope it's true.

Yes please! 500k is a bargain for a player of such potential.

It worries me that he has been labelled inconsistent at more than one club.
Can we afford to pay for a player that goes missing in games?
We've had our fair share of these over the years that have had that trait.
But Hurst must think he is worth the gamble.

Suspect we been sniffing around for a while and this will just happen....would explain the non-move to Greece.

This is exactly the type of player PH has built his reputation on turning from unreliable talent, to consistent winners. WHEN we get this guy in the building, he could well be the litmus test of PH man management ability and could end up being a significant signing rather than the decent punt it currently looks.
