Former Colchester Man Vincent-Young With Town in Spain
Monday, 2nd Jul 2018 20:03

Former Colchester full-back Kane Vincent-Young is with the Blues squad which flew out to Spain for their week’s warm weather training earlier today. TWTD revealed that Town were eyeing the 22-year-old free agent just over a week ago.

Although right-footed, Vincent-Young largely played as a left wing-back or left-back for Colchester and can also operate as a winger.

Despite having failed to sign the new contract offered by the Essex side towards the end of last season, Vincent-Young joined up with their squad for the start of pre-season training last week with manager John McGreal still hopeful that he would stay with the U’s despite interest from the Blues and other clubs.

Although a free agent from yesterday, due to his age Colchester would be due compensation if he were to join Town.

Camden-born Vincent-Young was with the Tottenham academy - where he will have been coached by Bryan Klug during his spell working in the Spurs youth set-up - before being released in 2014 when he signed for Colchester after impressing on trial following a short stint in non-league with Banbury United.

Vincent-Young with Town squad on far right

Having broken into the League Two side's first team at the start of 2015/16, 5ft 11in tall Vincent-Young made 62 starts and 18 sub appearances for the U's, scoring once.

That strike, against Forest Green Rovers in August, won Colchester’s Goal of the Season trophy, while he was also named the club’s Young Player of the Year.

The Town squad - including midfielder Emyr Huws who wasn’t ready to join in on the first day of pre-season training last Monday - flew out from Stansted this morning and are spending the week at the Pinatar Arena Football Center, San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia.

Taking a look? Or contracts being drawn up as we speak. Sounds a good player to have in the squad. Time will tell if he can step up to the championship. I hope so. Nice to see some young legs coming to town.

Knudsen on his way out perhaps? Or possibly he will be seen more as a centre half from now on? Or, are we just sticking to our plan and recruiting a young player that we hope to progress? Klug will know him well I expect, and if he thinks he is worth a contract then he is worth a contract.

Think he would be an excellent signing.

I will tell you what though I am just watching the Belgium and Japanese World Cup match and Japan are currently winning 2-0.

First time I have seen the Japs, haven't got a clue who any of their players are though but absolutely loving the way they are playing what is described as a high pressing game. If mr Hurst can deliver something close to this then I will be well happy.

Some of the best players in the world (from Belgium) struggling to cope with a load of unknowns. Brilliant stuff from Japan hope they hold on.

Surely we could use the Webster cash to go and buy half the Japanese team?

I'm sorry, but I've seen this guy play and although he is decent at league two level, sadly we need to do much better if we are serious about pushing on. Time to start spending some money and bringing in quality. No excuses now, we have millions to play with. Loads of wages due to countless players moving on.

I've not seen him play but I'll never judge a player till I have: personally going by the last 4 games of last season I'd say if Brian Klug has recommended him that's good enough for me: Paul Hurst Barmy Army

I see Collins has been released by west ham. Even at 34 he could shore up our defence on a free.

Seen him twice so hard to comment based on (approx) 70 mins of football. Looked comfortable at League Two level. I know many Colchester fans will be shocked if we sign him up.

Collins has been released by West Ham, we should sign him up.

I think Collins has Prem clubs interested.

As for VY let's remember is only 24!

Talking of wingers Brennan Dickenson (think that's the spelling) was the stand out player that I saw for Col Utd. Think he could step up a level.

I saw him a couple of times last season and appeared very average, didn't mind a hoof down the line.

Dickenson although injured last season was the stand out player for me and Jackson the other full back at least got the ball down and passed it.

Cannot see the benefit of signing him as its probably our most populated position unless we are to offload a couple.

OK sort of player but have doubts he can step a league.
Bet the players are enjoying it in Spain rather than Ireland, why oh why did MM take them to the same place year after year, was he getting a backhander from the hotel??

Reasonable player in League 2, but in the Championship? Might be a bridge too far.

It's always good to take a look at players and it's great to hear that he's with the squad...however..I do not believe that we will sign him. There is a huge gulf in class between league 1 and championship...and this player hasn't been outstanding in league 2.

Signs of Jonas moving on maybe after a healthy bid from a top 5 Premiership side?

An opportunity to have a good look at Vincent-Young., no more.

PH will then know if he's likely to cut in the Championship.

We met the team at Stansted and had a photo with the new boss - what a nice bloke ! He said they were doing fasting training every day and would be working hard! He also said that the boys were fed up of their usual golf trip to Ireland !!! Really impressed by Paul and how he spent 10 mins talking to my family......oh and he's a lot shorter than you think !
