Hurst: New Additions Required Before Blackburn Visit on Opening Day
Thursday, 26th Jul 2018 14:46

Blues boss Paul Hurst admits that he needs new additions to his squad and soon with the opening game against Blackburn Rovers at Portman Road only just over a week away.

So far the new Blues boss has signed Trevoh Chalobah on loan from Chelsea, free agent Jordan Roberts, another winger Gwion Edwards from Peterborough and striker Ellis Harrison from Bristol Rovers. Chalobah has been away with the England U19s but, along with Ben Morris, flies back on Friday.

“We certainly need to [make further additions] and realistically we need to for Blackburn,” Hurst said.

“The squad at times has already been very, very stretched. We’ve got players that we’ve inherited that are coming back from injury that aren’t going to be ready.

“We’ve got someone like Tom Adeyemi who started but is injured again. Some of the lads that are joining in at the minute, they’re not ready.

“And then we’ve got a little bit of a worry with Cole Skuse, Tristan Nydam missed the game the other night. We are really stretched.

“Pre-season’s fine, as in you can say, ‘You’ve won games, you’ve kept clean sheets’, but I think we all know it’s a different story in the Championship and we certainly need some strength in depth, some lads to come in and probably as starters, in all honesty.

“It all takes time and patience is a word which I have to keep using and it’s certainly testing my patience.”

Regarding Skuse, Hurst says there’s no serious problem but that the midfielder is likely to miss the friendly with West Ham on Saturday.

“It’s just his thigh, he felt it at the MK Dons, which was why he came off at half-time,” he said.

“We genuinely don’t think it’s anything too serious but I think he would have happily have gone out the other night but we might well have risked him for a much longer period out.

“He’s given a few signs to the physios that he could be involved on Saturday, but that decision may be taken out of his hands because I’m not prepared to risk someone like Cole in that game.”

Among those training at the club’s Open Day but not yet ready to be involved in games were Teddy Bishop, Joe Garner and Danny Rowe, while Emyr Huws was on the pitch training with a physio but not involved with the rest of the squad.

Adeyemi, who has picked up an achilles problem in pre-season, and was the only senior player not involved other than Skuse.

Certain sicknotes are a annoyance when the issues were plain to see prior to signing

Adeyemi has an Achilles problem? Oh dear, they usually take a long time to heel.

Then get the deals done! Offer reasonable amounts for who you want and the clubs will more than likely accept the offer.

Surely a central defender is a must ……….we can't be that far of Blackpool's valuation ….just spend a bit more of the Webster money

Stop messing about and bring the players in who he wants. Why risk losing our first few games for the sake of a few quid knocked off? Get his prime targets in now so we can hit the ground running.

Adeyemi and Bishop are constant sick notes and stealing a wage at the minute. It'll be interesting to see how many injuries we pick up over the season considering the amount we used to get with McCarthy in charge.

I still have hope that Emyr Huws will come good & be an important player for us, but at this point it looks like Tom Adeyemi's ship has sailed. It's a pity because fully fit he would be a really strong addition as a box to box type of central midfielder, but even if he does recover from the latest set back, it would hard to have any confidence in him staying fit for too long.

Skuse no doubt strained his thigh kicking the ball forwards for a change.

Time to jettison some of the sick notes and sign the players we need.

Shame since some of these have shown great potential when fit

To all the Skuse naysayers...see how quickly Hurst has seen his worth.

Adeyami is a waste of space who doesn't want to play for this club. Terminate his contract and get rid. His Father lives in the next village from me and according to him he got food poisoning on the pre season tour of Ireland last year that's why he didn't feature much early on???? Didn't know food poisoning could also effect groin/hamstring/achilles!!! Typical ex scummer.

Get on with it then Hurst. You have been taken for a mug by our owner, now you are out of your depth and he will let you take the flack from the fans as the season goes on. Evans you should be ashamed man. Get off your beach towel in the Bahamas, and sign some players ffs

Tommy Tommy Tommy......

Chill out man.

Please give us a few weeks to dream before it goes tits up?

A very decisive period of time is coming up in the club's history starting on the 4th of August.

We all feel your bitterness and pain of the last year's ( we really do ) but come on, dare to dream this may be a new dawn in the history of ITFC.

Huh?

What a remarkable situation. One week to go and the club admit the squad is stretched. What has Evans been doing? One week and just one senior CB at the club. Worrying.

Are we able to cancel Adeyamis contract "by mutual consent"?

He is really becoming an embarassment.

bedsitfc added 20:15 - Jul 26
Mutual consent means BOTH parties have to agree
Or a pay off

As frustrated as I am about the lack of signings I think we should all hold fire for a few more days.None of us really knows what is happening behind the scenes.
There could well be players in talks, but as we all know agents are also involved so things are not always cut and dry quickly.
If,and I say If Waghorn does not leave we don't have a lot of money to bring in the players PH wants,do we.There lies the problem.
Remember,patience is a virtue.
