Deal Agreed for Shrews Duo
Sunday, 5th Aug 2018 22:01

Town are reported to have agreed a deal with Shrewsbury for midfielder Jon Nolan and central defender Toto Nsiala with the duo set for medicals at Portman Road tomorrow.

Last night, Shrews chief executive Brian Caldwell revealed that the Blues had matched his club’s valuation for the duo - £1.5 million according to some reports - but with sell-on clauses still to be agreed, although he expected the moves to be confirmed within the next 48 hours.

Now HITC Sport are reporting the deal has been concluded and the pair will be at Portman Road tomorrow to undergo medicals and complete the formalities relating to their joint-switch.

Both players were left out of the Shrewsbury side yesterday having been barred from training after handing in transfer requests in the wake of Town's initial bid earlier in the week, which was turned down.

Speaking at his post-match press conference yesterday, Blues manager Paul Hurst said Town were getting closer on some of their targets: “I think some are kind of edging more in our favour.”

A Blues move for Nsiala and Nolan had been widely anticipated since Hurst took over at Portman Road with both key players in his Shrewsbury team which reached the League One play-offs last season.

The duo, who are both 26, were initially recruited by Hurst during his time as Grimsby manager from elsewhere in non-league, having previously been with the Everton academy.

Following his spell at Everton, Huyton-born Nolan spent time with Stockport County, Lincoln City and Wrexham (loan) before joining Hurst's Grimsby in January 2016 prior to moving on to Chesterfield that summer. A year later Hurst took him to Shrewsbury.

Nsiala, a DR Congo international born in Kinshasa, spent time on loan at Macclesfield and Accrington while with Everton before a spell with TDCS Dong Thap in Vietnam.

After returning to the UK, Nsiala, who was brought up in Liverpool from the age of 10 after a period living in Paris, joined Southport before playing for Hurst at Grimsby between 2014 and 2016. After half a season at Hartlepool he was reunited with his old boss at Shrewsbury in January 2017.

Fantastic. Two experienced players for a good price. I thought Shrewsbury were going to hold out for more.

Great news and agreed we need to get Tilt in as well.
Doubtless there will be moaners about lack of championship football from PHs signings but think back to the World Cup graphic before the quarter final match vs Sweden where it showed the England squad had played for about 15-20 teams outside of the top two divisions. Don' think they did so badly and no reason to suppose we will either....

I would prefer Tilt if I had to choose between him and Nsiala. Can't really see what Hurst see's in him.

Superb additions. N'Siala is an immense physical presence and Nolan for tenacity, work rate, creativity and goalscoring from midfield.Plus, Hursty knows all about their capabilities.

Those questioning N'Siala's ability, he was awesome last season. Admitted, he didnt have his best game in the p/off's but had just come back from injury at the time.

Very good news, particularly Nolan! Would still like to see us sign Tilt.

1.5 Million for both??? What a bargain, Nolan himself is at least worth 1.5 million. Very good business. Tilt and Jackson now please, wouldn't disagree with a winger on loan as well.

Two excellent signings IMO. Nolan could be the Maddison the scummers are going to miss big time. Nsiala is a beast, liking this very much.

Fabulous news! Maybe we're just short of a striker now, though if Harrison stays fit, we're not badly off there either!

I'm really excited by the new lads already brought and the potential few more to come. I will say and I was Mick out first of all. But would Mick be looking at this and wishing he'd had a chance to splash some cash too.

Really didn't think we'd get Nolan, I'm very impressed! Just imagine Nolan giving it large when he scores the winner vs scum, got a feeling he could be a lot of our's favourite player the coming seasons

A friend at work's from Shrewsbury; he said while he was sure N'Siala is more than capable of making the step up he was far less certain about Nolan. Here's hoping he's right on the former and wrong on the latter. Happy to trust Hurst's judgement on both, hope to seeing them making their debuts at Rotherham Saturday.

Anyone else worried that we are getting to many league one and two players and that we will end up being a league one team. I hope I'm wrong. In Hurst we trust

I,d like to see Morris start up front with Harrison to see how that pans out for 45 minutes. We may have Folami & Garner on the bench as back up.

Great news now get Tilt in and get Harrison some support he was forever looking for the quality ball through to him (that Andre supplied v W.H) against blackburn but nobody seemed to catch on in midfield.

Owain: maybe, but he clearly had a brief to spend as little as possible. I think Hurst came in with a brief to spend a bit but to spend it all lower down the leagues and ME seems very keen on that

Why do I keep reading in posts...… 'we are signing league one players so we are going to be a league one team'
Noooo…… if you have a team of quality league one players, you have a good / very good championship competitive team.. surely, don't you?
