Emyr Huws, Teddy Bishop and Danny Rowe were all in match action for the first time since suffering injuries which ended their 2017/18 seasons in an U23s behind-closed-doors friendly against Cambridge United at Playford Road this afternoon.

Huws, who played the first half, had been out of action since December when he suffered a knee injury which required surgery, while Bishop, who featured for an hour, injured a hamstring last October.

Rowe’s loan spell at Lincoln at the end of last season was prematurely ended by an ankle problem which required surgery. The former Macclesfield winger also played the first 60 minutes.

Despite their involvement this afternoon, the trio are still likely to be some way off first team involvement given their lengthy absences.

“It’s good to see them out on the grass but it’s just the first step. They are a long way of being fit for first team contention,” boss Paul Hurst told the club site.

Also among those in action against the U’s were Andre Dozzell, Dean Gerken, Tristan Nydam, Myles Kenlock, Jordan Roberts and Josh Emmanuel.

Len_Brennan added 16:40 - Aug 7 Like many I have written off Adeyemi returning as his injuries have been many & on the finicky side, but Huws I still have great hope for after a bad knee injury. I know he was injured at Cardiff, but not convinced he's a sick note type as yet. A fully fit Teddy Bishop, playing with confidence, on the front foot under a good manager, would be a major asset also.

herfie added 16:45 - Aug 7 Got to be a major step towards full fitness - for PH like new signings. Fingers crossed that all three continue to make, injury free, progress. No sign, however, of Adyemi - really concerned about his future here. I thought PH hinted that some of his fitness issues were not necessarily related to purely physical issues. Hopefully he can be got right and able to compete. But seems to have gone into radio silence regarding ongoing transfer stuff! Come on guys, give us some state of play news.

PortmanTerrorist added 16:50 - Aug 7 Bishop, Dozzell, Nydam, Huws....if fit are one hell of a midfield. With the new signings, and the transfer window about to close, one presumes the competition for places will be fierce. Love it. Made me almost forget about Skuglas.....almost !!

Suffolkboy added 16:52 - Aug 7 It's such a shame that we've been without these people; I'm afraid ,like others, I believe everything is currently pointing to Adeyemi becoming a totally lost cause.What's his real problems , psychological / mental / physical ?If he will not commit to resolution then the sooner he disappears from the scene the better ,BUT it'd be great to see him really fit and bringing that enthusiasm onto the pitch ! Hughs and Bishop would be a credit to any Championship side-- let's hope for news of substantial progress; they'd be costly to buy in then ! Thursday gone will be good : doubts about the squad will be gone ,and PH & CD can concentrate & convince us with a team of quite some promise ,but yet needing coordination over the whole pitch . Up the Blues !

naa added 17:06 - Aug 7 ronnyd: he played in the U23 match above. He's in the line-up. Even if he was on loan I'd wonder why. Have to say that on first viewing our new right-back didn't look any better than anything we already had (Cotter, Emanuel, Spence).

Bishop was awesome in his breakthrough season and I think Hues will be too,it is a big if though. They will be like 2 new great signings if they can stay fit, just hope ph new training regime pays off for them both.

jas0999 added 18:31 - Aug 7 IF and it's a big IF, Huws and Bishop can return to fitness and play regularly, it would certainly strengthen our team. Not so convinced about Rowe, but on rare occasion I've seen him, he has looked okay. Adeyemi? Time to write him off completely?
