Walters Out for Six Months
Wednesday, 26th Sep 2018 16:58

Striker Jon Walters will be out for six months having suffered a partial rupture of his achilles during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers. The 35-year-old was forced off shortly after coming on as a sub against his former club.

"One-time skipper Walters rejoined the Blues late in August on loan from Burnley until January and now won’t play again before that spell is due to end.

Walters, who has made just two starts and the weekend sub appearance without scoring, will return to Turf Moor to undergo his rehabilitation.

The Republic of Ireland international, who had missed the match against Brentford having initially suffered an achilles problem in the previous game at Hull, underwent a scan at the weekend, then saw a specialist in London today where he was given the bad news regarding the extent of the injury.

“I’m obviously gutted with the news,” Walters told the club website. “That’s football though. That’s life I suppose as well and while I’m really disappointed, there are a lot of people worse off than me.""

“I’ll work hard and get back to fitness as soon as I can. I’ve enjoyed being back here and I want to wish the club all the best for the rest of the season.”

Speaking after Saturday's game, manager Paul Hurst admitted it was an incorrect call to include Walters.

“Clearly it was the wrong decision to involve him and I’m the one to make that decision," he said.

"But I think Jon would certainly be the first one to say that he trained yesterday [Friday] and said he felt fine.

“We said we’d look at it again in the morning to see if anything developed overnight and he said he felt fine.

“He’s an experienced pro, I’m sure desperate to be involved, but if he didn’t feel he was right he wouldn’t have put himself up for selection."

Walters's injury means Hurt will no longer have to make a decision on which of his six loanees to leave out of his matchday squad with only five permitted.

As if Hurst is the reason Walters ruptured a tendon? Get a grip

Idiotic. Shades of Mark Fish about this all we have heard is we are protecting Dozzell, no issue with that I want him fit and ready..... can we apply this to the other players?

I want Hurst to succeed so much but it's baffling decision after baffling decision ATM.

Prove me wrong Hurst, I am begging you

Well if we weren't f****** before we are definitely f*** **now. Can we rule the season over yet? Recall ben Morris back or bring some of the under 23 players in to the team or step up Freddie Sears

O dear the one person who could score us goal....... and now we can only sign a free agent.

We are in trouble think we need to throw Morris in and cross our fingers

It was a gamble that backfired on the manager and the player. Robson took a gamble on Beattie and Hunter lasting the FA Cup Final, sometimes it works other times like this one it back fires. Burley played Johnson in the 2000 Play Off final which backfired as he lasted only 20 mins if that, but the way Naylor played that day nobody missed him. Would be interesting to know whether Jon was consulted on whether he should play some part of Saturday's game but we wish Jon a speedy recovery and move on with going with what we have already got.

Well done Mr Sports Science for now ending his career.

How he happily plays an unfit 35 year old yet says that Dozzell isn't fit despite him tearing it up for the U23's is mind boggling.

Our manager is a joke, people saying it isn't his fault are clueless.

HURST OUT

I can't understand why Hurst felt it was ok to have Walters on the bench and able to play when he was obviously not fit yet Dozzell can play 90 minutes for the youngsters but is unable to play in the 1st team!

Does that mean Walters goes back to Burnley for treatment and we no longer have to pay his wages?

I've been a big supporter of Hurst, but this whole injury saga has confused the hell out of me. He's spent the last 2 months wrapping Dozzell up in cotton wool, only for this to happen. Obviously it wasn't his fault Walters ruptured his Achilles, but this highlights science tests can't predict the the future. Dozzell was probably fitter than Walters on Saturday, give the lad a chance.

Hursts clearly said he had a calf injury he has gone down the McCarthy road of misleading supporters and for people saying he wasn't at fault for the injury he clearly was as he should have been nowhere near the subs bench.
Well done Hurst and get out of ITFC as you clearly are unable to manager a real football club and well done Evans yet another terrible choice of manager
The club is in turmoil unrest in the dressing room and awful manager bring back Klug he did a fantastic job at the end of the season
We would play our own players and not useless loans and poor lower league players

Well the start to the season just gets worse, looks like we're relying on Jackson and Harrison to provide the goals (maybe Edwards too) but what I've seen so far I bet my savings we don't get a player in double figures this season...

He won't play again, 35 and out for six months he might as well call it a day and retire!

No goals in the team, bring Morris back from loan, bring Woolfy back from loan, bring Josh back from loan. Whatever your trying now isnt working..please dont be as stubborn as that old Yorkshire Tw@
I think the ideas were right but the personnel have largely been wrong and the fault of that falls with Evans where it always has.
We will be relegated this year without a massive change and it needs to happen now...Klug save our club

Club is going from bad to worse. How much longer must we endure the unendurable and deal with the undealable and accept the unacceptable

When we played West Ham pre season Harrison looked like he'd score a shed load of goals this season,......,............with the right service or Dozzel as he's known

Bad news. Bring back Morris from loan and give Freddie and Folami a crack, no worse than Harrison or Jackson. All the best to Walters.

Not surprised at the least - desperate measure by PH, and subsequently foolhardy to play him at all against Bolton.

Sorry, but another indication of PH's inexperience, and perhaps poor judgement.

The Championship is proving a step to far for him at the moment, just as I feared, and predicted.
Still want to see him succeed tho' - if only to keep the McCarthyites quiet. No ambition, no requirement.

Just like Brexiteers, and Remainers - many Brexiteers haven't ventured outside the County, far be it Country - whereas the Remainers have enjoyed the freedom of movement within that wonderful place called Europe, and know what it has to offer.

It is very hard not to be tempted into the uncharitable conclusion that Ipswich Town have hired a twonk.

Please stop being so negative yes this is a massive knock to our season but Hurst isn't the fu***** physio its between Walters himself and the physio to decide whether he's fit and they've decided hes fit enough to be on the bench so Hurst has but him on the bench then subbed him on as an attacking sub to try to win the game. I see the injury as Walters's fault for declaring himself bench fit.
If we carry on with the hate we will go down.

Swn98 ........ you are an embarrassment to yourself - no true Ipswich Town Supporter would use the word, you consistently use to describe people who disagree with you.

Shame on you - just DON'T pretend to be a TRUE BLUE - because you just don't know what one of those are, and obviously never will.
