Harrison Out for At Least Two Months
Saturday, 29th Sep 2018 18:14

Town boss Paul Hurst has revealed that striker Ellis Harrison will be out of action for at least two months having ruptured a ligament in his ankle. The Blues manager says he will look at whether to bring in a free agent having lost another striker, loanee Jon Walters, to injury earlier in the week.

“He’s not very good at all,” Hurst said when asked about summer signing Harrison, who suffered the knock in training.

“I think he’s ruptured a ligament in his ankle so we expect him to be out for a minimum of a couple of months, perhaps longer.

“It’s a frustration we’ve lost him, Emyr Huws, I said he felt his knee so he didn’t train Friday and wasn’t available. He hasn’t played but we were hoping he’d made a step forward again.

“And Myles Kenlock was another one we lost on Thursday to an ankle knock. That shouldn’t be anything like Ellis’s, he might be back training on Monday, I’m not sure.”

Free agents are Hurst’s only source of new recruits until January and he admits he may look at bringing someone in via that route.

“I think with Ellis we need to have a look at it,” he admitted, having previously said it was unlikely in the wake of Walters’s injury. “If there is something out there that we feel can help us, we’ll look at it.

“It doesn’t change my feelings overall, but if we are going to be without him having lost Jon - and I don’t want to lose any players - but you lose him, who gives you a physical presence at the top end of the pitch, then we lose Ellis who will compete, win headers etc, maybe we’re a little bit light in options.

“Kayden Jackson showed some of his attributes again today and Freddie Sears, they’re the two obvious ones but after that we haven’t really got too many options.”

Has to be said, we're not having any better luck with injuries so far this year than we have in past seasons. If the sports science approach of the new regime is meant to combat that problem, it's another thing that is sadly not delivering yet.

Very little loss to be honest , he is poor and not up to the job , unfortunate for him as a individual , but will it make much difference not having a poor non-scoring striker availabale , even been poor out wide..a dud buuy for me..sorry but thats what i see.!!

Unfortunately you loaned out the promising young Morris and I'd rather see Folami than sign Dexter Blackstock or some other striker who's been sitting at home watching Tipping Point and Bargain Hunt since the summer.

May aswell bring back Morris. No good him just sitting on the bench unused that's no good for him and looked sharp against Blackburn.

Recall Morris from his loan and see what he has to offer?

Bad news, although Harrison has shown very little since joining us. After losing Celina, McGoldrick, Waghorn and Garner we needed to invest more in new goalscorers I think. Typical that McGoldrick finds his fitness just after Ipswich released him for nothing, netting another two today.

Step up Nathan Ellington, Leon Best or Luke Varney.

This is indeed bad luck.

BUT when we released McGoldrick and sold Waghorn & Garner, replacing with just two players the alarm bells should have been ringing. Signing a player on loan who wasn't fit and carrying an injury wasn't the answer. When we sold Garner on deadline day it was essential a replacement was in place. We made the same mistake with Murphy. Evans clearly hasn't learnt.

Bad luck for Ellis & symptomatic of things seem to be going for the Hurst regime at present. Might be a chance for a youngster to make a name for themselves though

I'm glad that this emphasis on sports science has really improved our players' fitness ...

When we came to deadline day and we were linked with Kayden Jackson and Josh Windass I thought it imperative we signed both. How that's look definite now.

Harrison looked a little half hearted before injury. Hope he comes back full of go. Should Look very wisely at players not at a club, there's usually a good reason why they haven't got a job

The only way we can sign anyone is by singing a free agent and any of any value would have been signed already. With what Harrison has shown so far he will not be missed to any great degree, sorry for his injury, but he is another of the Hurst heroes!
