Bournemouth, Brighton and Palace Linked With Dozzell
Wednesday, 9th Jan 2019 10:14

Bournemouth, Brighton and Crystal Palace are all reportedly tracking Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell.

According to the Daily Mirror, the three Premier League clubs are eyeing the 19-year-old with the Blues said to want a fee of £5 million for the academy graduate.

England U20 international Dozzell, who has been linked with top flight clubs including Arsenal and Spurs in the past, has returned to action this season after missing all but 45 minutes of 2017/18 with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

So far he has made five starts and six sub appearances for the Blues and is yet to cement his place as a regular in the side.

Speaking in November, Dozzell’s father, Blues legend Jason, said his son was much happier at the club since Paul Lambert took over as boss and that a Premier League move was something for the longer term.

“We’re not looking at that,” he told BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch. “I want him to do something at Ipswich Town. He’s 19 now and it hasn’t got going yet, with the injury and whatever else and Paul [Hurst] and the old regime, it hasn’t got going.

“Whatever happens, happens, but now he’s happy with the new regime, they’re speaking to him, he’s understanding what position they’re in, so he might have to bide his time a little bit longer and take it from there. But, as I say, he’s really happy at the moment, so that’s all I can ask for.”

Even if there is serious interest from the linked Premier League trio then it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to pay the sort of fee which would be acceptable to the Blues, even if they were prepared to sell, as Dozzell is still in the relatively early stages of his return from his serious injury.

The former Copleston High School pupil is contracted to Town until the summer of 2020 with the club having an option to keep him for a further year.

Also - haven't we done questioning finances enough now? No one really knows what goes on with Evans or the clubs finances so no point in anyone pretending they do as it's sheer guess work and assumptions. Does anyone know where Abramovich's money comes from or Kroenke's? Or many other owners? No. We can guess but we don't know.

Have we signed a right back yet?

This is baffling!! The lad is 18!? How can people be saying “I don't see the rave about this lad”? The lad hasn't even hit his 20's!?!? I remember everyone singing his praises after the West Ham game in pre season. Think everyone forgets he has had a horrific injury.. Does my head in when we moan about letting Rhodes, Wickham, Marriott leave, and then we're here saying this lad doesn't look the real deal? HE IS 18!!!

Would say cash in IF it meant we kept Lankester and Downes, he drifts in and out of games and hardly “goes looking for the ball” like the Dyer's and Holland's of past.

Agreed Rugbytomc.

Best bit of business this club ever did. £6 million for a man that couldn't trap a bag of cement.
If memory serves me right, the meagre price we got for Ambrose was due to us being in administration and having little to no choice 😔

Can't see us realistically selling any of the kids this window because none of them have done enough to earn that sort of interest. Which game are Bournemouth/Brighton/Palace's scouts supposed to have watched and concluded that Dozzell will make it as a Premier League player? Championship players that get 7-figure moves tend to have had - at a minimum - a breakthrough dozen games or so where they've looked a cut above and AD simply hasn't. Even then, it's tricky, contrary to the myth, Premier League clubs don't pay large fees for late teenage players very often (none of the 3 teams cited appear to have *ever* paid £1m+ for a lower league teenager).

If our form picks up and Dozzell, Lankester or Downes stand out in the process, then we might have something to worry about. But between now and the end of January? I'd be shocked if anything happened.

Anybody thinking that Evans will put all the money we get if Dozzell does go back into the squad are living in cloud cuckoo land going by history and even if he does you can guarantee he'll sell off players next season whether we're in the Championship or league 1 to offset this.

The only lure of those clubs for a player is money. Unfortunately with Brighton and Palace you have the danger of being back in the Championship within a couple of seasons. Bournemouth gate is 12k! If i was getting 40k a week id rather get it in front of 35k+ crowd.

He is class and as a long time supporter i want to see the youngsters we develop playing for us - for at least a couple of years until an offer that can't be refused comes in.

£5m and nothing less, will shine in a better team I think. Finding it really hard in a relegation battle at the moment but he isn't really cut from that cloth.

Think Bournemouth is his best shout.

Northstandverteran - Come on Bramble was genius for us. We had so much entertainment with that lad. Remember some of those thunderous tackles when he'd nearly break legs...Those surging runs taking the ball out of defence? Had some great fun watching that boy in action.

Hey if he wasn't as much entertainment for Newcastle then that was their loss.

I sit corrected

Maybe it's my age, January blues and the current predicament that is starting to give me a negative outlook on life 😂

I'm not overly convinced on Dozzell either - afraid he is turning out to be very similar to Bishop. Let's see how he comes back from his injury first, as he may be worth more. Maybe something ME will look at come the end of the season though - a £5mil deal will be a good amount to spend to get us back into the Championship.

Andros has great vision and a good short pass in him. He needs to beef up into the tackles, more shots on goal, score some goals and make the occasional surging run with the ball. The same could be said with a few other youngsters and as dad Jason said, it is still early days. The problem is we are forever changing the team at Ipswich. These young players could do with one good Championship season under their belts.

No doubt Evans will try to sell anyone with a good price if he gets the chance. With the threat of relegation we need all the help we can get. If relegation is confirmed then expect players to be sold to compensate the lesser revenue in League One.

IMO he won't cut it in lge 1 so I say sell for £5m.
Rather keep Lankester, Downes, Nydam who all have a bit more about them physically.

Technically very good, but horrendously lightweight, and probably always will be. Cash in.

Obvious why we have tied Lancaster to a longer contract(gets a bigger fee) because if we go down then the only assets we have are young and upcoming players the senior pros who have contributed to our downfall are not worth their bus fare home!!!!

Ipswichbusiness added 18:18 - Jan 9
The fire sale of our assets has started! Senior management has obviously realised that we are to be relegated this season with likely bankruptcy to follow, so they're selling our best players now for what they can get. Expect more to go.

This has to be a hoax news story, here is the issue the lad has not played enough games yet to warrant that sort of money, there was a feature recently in the sun where the "scout" reviews young up and coming players think at the time the valued him at 1m not 5m. Other young players have gone past him ie Downes and Lancaster. He will need two good seasons injury free to show what he can do then we can judge. Hurst did,nt seam to rate him and Lambert has only given him a small amount of game time, Get Real!!!

Andre has the skill, but the serious injury he received has put him back a year, due to lack of match play.
In our current plight, I feel that he is too lightweight in midfield to really stamp his class in a struggling team in a relegation fight.
If Town could get good money for him, from a team were he would flourish, then perhaps both Andre and Town would be winners, providing all money received went to Paul Lambert and his quest for our Championship survival.

For all those saying he is too lightweight, what about David Silva, Jack Grealish, Keiran Dyer. Xavi, Iniesta!
