Skipper Chambers Linked With Chicago Fire
Monday, 4th Mar 2019 16:18

Town skipper Luke Chambers is reportedly a target of MLS side the Chicago Fire.

According to the Daily Mail, the Fire are keen to add a central defender to their squad with Chambers said to fit the bill both from a playing and financial perspective.

Chambers is out of contract with the Blues in the summer but with the club having an option to keep him for a further season.

Manager Paul Lambert recently said he had spoken to his captain, who joined Town on a free transfer in 2012 after leaving Nottingham Forest, about staying at Portman Road beyond this season, stating that Chambers, 33, and Cole Skuse, 32, both have a massive part to play in the club going forward.

He added that owner Marcus Evans is also set to talk to the one-time Northampton defender about his future.

Elder wasn't playing Saturday, I'd assume you were meant to say Bree.

No better time in his career for Chambo' to make some money out of a final move - been an excellent Club Captain for us, just a shame he was never the player to match it.

A fine professional, and mega example to young players, many of whom as soon as they pen a contract become superstars in their own minds - without achieving anything.

Good Luck Chambo' - a fine servant of our Club - but now time to move on.

Chambers,Skuse, Spence,Sears, Knudsen and probably Bart (for a fee) to.Big saving on wages. With our youngsters and the new boys this season,we could build a good young squad with maybe 3/4
experienced permanent signings. No PL loanees or free agents ( - how much must we be paying for Pennington, Qu@ner,Keane,Collins,Bree and Ellard?).

His commitment and effort has never been in doubt or his loyalty to the club , would be more than capable at Div 1 level and would be nice for him to maybe go out on a high next year than finish after this dreadful season .
Personally think the whole defence has struggled since we let Berra go and didn't replace him with a quality signing but could say that about every position at the club ...Mr Evans

time catches up with defenders; berra was a liability in his last season, chambers looks similar this.

he's given loads to the club, but this is a good move for all parties if it goes through, would welcome him back as a coach

I know some say he's been a liability lately but being linked to Chicago fire is even beyond Chambo. Watch out for the violin cases as well, I'm sure there's someone around who can tell you about a fiddle.

Good luck to him whatever his future brings. Good to see the respect he deserves if not especially for his recent playing history. Come on Robsonwark, say something nice and make my day!😂

Bluenc - This has nothing to do with his form in previous seasons. I agree, there are few players in the squad who can honestly say theyve had a 5+ out of 10 season. However, Chambers is part of the spine of the team, he is an experienced player but most of all....hes is CAPTAIN. When a new arrival or up and coming youngster plays alongside such a liability, it does not inspire any confidence whatsoever. His passing has been wayward, hes has gotten slower and , as a consequence his positional sense has suffered. He has been responsible for so many individual errors that have led to goals. So, he may talk a good game, he may be positive around the dressing room and he may bleed blue ipswich blood......but that just wont cut it on the pitch. No surprise some of our best performances were with him in the stands. Time to move on.

although chambo got done by mccleary sat i felt collins left olivera totally unmarked by shifting over somewhat drastically, and bart wasnt overly faultless for second goal either so will defend him a tad on sat,i guess frustrations are being vented so thats where we are at, but feel he has been a great professional for Ipswich tbh so lets not be too harsh ...remember theres only one luke F..king chambers ,in ref to him swearing on sky :)

I'd be gutted if he left, but that's my heart speaking. He's a great leader and role model for the club. He's been a fantastic captain, but sadly his performances have dipped in the last season or two. Similar to Tommy Smith, id welcome them both back with open arms in a coaching capacity once they've enjoyed the states.

I think to go forward, we must clear out. Skuse, Chambers, Spence, Knudsen, Gerken. Let's get rid of some big earners in there and reward our youngsters with new contracts.

The rebuild must start now and the sooner we know where the old guard are going to be for next season, the better for us all.

Cannot criticise his obvious love of the club. But, he is not up to the level we need so a move like this would be good for him. Come back in a few years in a coaching position Luke.

I find it unbelievable that there are posters on here who still don't go to any games but voice their opinion. Chambers is undoubtedly too slow now but he has worked his socks off for the club so let him decide his future not the anti everything brigade.

Bluepatriot, I have posted on this subject re Chambers and have my opinion, but I find your post a disgrace there is no need for that type of comment at all!!!!(again my opinion) the man is after all human like the rest of us and while his performances have lacked what could be expected that is life have you always been perfect?

Sadly we have never really seen the best from Luke due to being shipped out at right back when he should have been at centre half the whole time. Best captain we have had for a long long time. Shame his legs are going/gone as his passion is what we need if were ever going to come back up!

Chambos biggest strength has always been his dedication and positive influence on the players and club. Its difficult to appreciate as fans but he deserves our respect and support with what ever he devides to do. I personally would be delighted to see him back in a coaching role in future

Wow what a 12 months. Mick leaves the club with the heart and soul ripped out of it.
Chambo leaves the 1st team with the heart and soul ripped out of it.
Still some who regard MM as a legend.
Still some who regard LC as a legend.
We start the new season playing at the lowest standard anyone but a handful has known.
When I think of club legends, the 2 above can't be further from the picture.
The club and team currently at its lowest point ever, in terms of everything it can be.
Thanks Mick. Thanks Luke. Everyone has an opinion. There's mine.
