Rowe: I Think Ipswich Might Want Me Back in the Summer
Tuesday, 23rd Apr 2019 20:20

On-loan winger Danny Rowe says he expects Town will want him back at Portman Road ahead of their 2019/20 League One campaign but says he loves playing at Lincoln, who he has helped to win the League Two title having rejoined the Imps in January, and would be open to a return to Sincil Bank.

Rowe, 27, who picked up a Checkatrade Trophy winner’s medal during his loan spell with Lincoln last season, says he has enjoyed this year’s stint with the side managed by Danny Cowley.

“This is a team and a manager that want to win all the time and I think that’s important because as a player you need to win things,” he told BBC Radio Lincolnshire's Hope and Glory podcast.

“It was a good opportunity for me and I’ve come here and we’ve won the league, I’m delighted.”

Rowe, who was joined on loan at Sincil Bank by fellow Blue Jordan Roberts later in January, has had a bittersweet season with Lincoln wining promotion to League One while Town were being relegated.

“It is, it’s surreal really,” the former Stockport man reflected. “It’s never a nice thing to see your club get relegated, especially as I’m close to a lot of the lads there.

“It was always going to be a challenge for the boys after the start they had. I thought when the manager [Paul Lambert] came in he turned it around, they were playing good football, it just didn’t go for them.

“It’s disappointing but obviously on a personal point when you go it’s a selfish game and you’ve got to go and do well and thankfully I’ve come here I’ve done well and I’ve enjoyed my time here and we’ve won the league.”

Looking to next year Rowe believes Town will want him back for pre-season, boss Lambert having said last week the Blues had heard nothing from Lincoln about wanting to keep the Mancunian longer term.

“From what I’m hearing I think Ipswich might want me back in the summer,” he said.

“Obviously, I love playing here, I get on well with all the boys and there’s a great manager so obviously I would be open to coming back here depending on what football I’d be guaranteed elsewhere. For me I’d love to be back here, but we’ll have to see what happens.”

Rowe, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2020, has made only three starts and eight sub appearances for Town since signing from Macclesfield in January 2017.

He made two brief sub appearances for Lambert prior to joining Lincoln on loan, but would have started the game at QPR had he not been unwell.

How much lower will our club sink? The lad wants to be at a club ( Lincoln ) that wants to win all the time! Two clubs definitely going in opposite directions! Under the ownership of Evans Lincoln are now referred to in higher esteem!

Suit yourself Rowe - no time for people who don't want to be onboard.

Stay at Lincoln - no problem.

Will Lincoln be our new derby match?
Peterborough just outside the play offs and Southend just above the relegation zone.
There's a thought to warm the cockles of your heart.

We got to take a look at him, but what Lincoln do will speak volumes.

For those that are being negative about what he is saying, note the words " he told BBC Radio Lincolnshire". What would you expect him to say?

Personally I think he managed to balance his comments very well

In my opinion he's one to let go. 27 years old and has not made it. One half tidy season in lge2 doesn't excite me I'm afraid. We have better, that's why he was sent there in the first place! It's incredible when a team like us are having a hard time that some see every option as a better one!

Every option IS a better one

I think that Rowe should have much more time here, has the ability to attack and track back, plus score goals. That doesn't seem the norm in the current Town team.

One or two people on here need to remember that though club loyalty might be in their DNA, since Bosman especially, professional footballers are just like the rest of us and are working people. Loyalty is seldom rewarded. They will want to be where they feel their best interests are met. That may not be just down to money. Generally, maybe we should just criticise players for what they do on the pitch rather what they say to interviewers, who may have their own agenda, especially as most players are probably not media-savvy and do not always articulate their points carefully.

PL is going to need another wide man to play HIS system next season. I cannot think of another wide player we could realistically get in from league 1 or 2 that would obviously be better than Danny. But perhaps I underestimate PL's powers of persuasion and maybe he can conjure up a bit of quality from elsewhere.

Hate to suggest it but given the Scum will be looking at Bundesliga Players now, maybe he can tap his German connections fora lower league gem. Don't mind us cribbing a bit if it does not stifle the development of our own and gives us the chance to play the Scum again in 2 seasons after their bubble has burst !

Some fans are really nitpicky, I don´t think Rowe says anything wrong at all. One reflection is that neither McCarthy, Hurst or Lambert seems to have rated him enough to play him regurlary. Maybe he will blossom in League One.

He's won a league title and a cup whilst at Lincoln, why the hell would he want to come back here? we haven't won a cup game for 10 years ffs!
