Birmingham Revive Bart Interest
Friday, 24th May 2019 23:14

Town goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski is once again the subject of interest from Birmingham City, who failed to buy him last summer but are now said to have launched a fresh bid to sign the Pole, according to a report in a national newspaper today.

The report, which initially appeared in the Daily Star, is accurate, TWTD understands, with the club set to consider bids for the Polish international, who is the highest-paid player at Portman Road following the bumper new deal he signed last year after returning from duty with Poland at the World Cup finals in Russia.

That new contract followed the Blues' refusal of a £3 million offer from Birmingham for Bialkowski, who, following a tough season for both club and player, is valued at half that figure in today's report.

Town have already released experienced keeper Dean Gerken but although they today agreed to bring in Czech keeper Tomas Holy, who rejected the offer of a new contract at Gillingham, it is believed they are keen to offload Bialkowski - and that the keeper himself is expecting to depart.

League One football will do nothing to improve Bialkowski’s international prospects, although his exclusion from the Polish squad last term was mainly due to a slump in form by the 31-year-old that led to him losing his first-team place to Gerken.

Bialkowski was the supporters’ Player of the Year for three successive seasons before being selected for Word Cup duty but he was way below his best for the majority of a campaign that saw Town finish bottom of the Championship table.

It would make sense for both club and player if Bialkowski moved on and Birmingham have emerged as the first interested party, although the keeper will almost certainly attract further bids, mainly from the Championship, in the coming weeks.

Should he, as expected, depart for pastures new Town are likely to bring in another experienced keeper, unless Lambert sees Holy as his number one and promotes 20-year-old Harry Wright to the role of second choice.

In addition to Holy, TWTD understands the Blues have spoken to a number of other keepers this summer, including QPR's Matt Ingram and Exeter's Christy Pym.

If we do have to sell one or two players to balance the books,
I'd prefer it to be the likes of Bart, rather than any of our promising
youngsters. But all the best to Bart,if and when he does move on,he's
been a great servant to the club and we possibly would have been relegated
in previous season's but for him.

As sad as this is, all things considered, this is the right move for everyone involved. Clears a huge amount off the wage bill, and brings in some money to use during the summer. For Bart personally, as the report says, he needs to be playing at championship level at the very least.

Thanks for everything bart, you've been a fantastic servant to the club, on your day you've proven to be a tremendous goalkeeper.

Agreed this is unfortunate however rather this than than one of the kids I just hope and pray we have an actual replacement BEFORE he goes as we always sell then struggle to get someone else is ala Murphy one keeper in and two out will put me in a panic

He has been decent for us, though I think we do have an overinflated opinion of him that isn't necessarily universally shared. Yes he makes some great saves but is suseptable to conceeding too many where you look and think could he have done better. This i think ultimately stopped him going to a prem club. That said an excellent servent to the club, but the time is right. He needs to move on to maintain the level and also given the massive drop in income we really need to lose his wage. hopefully we can get a reasonable fee, poss in excess of 2m. if he does move on the all the best.

Does anyone else remember last season, when Bart said he had something to say, but was waiting for the right time? I still don't know what that was and whatever it was, might have been the reason to his inconsistent form last season.

Still believe we should try our best to keep him but if an offer of £3M comes in, I think we would take it. Still a fantastic goalkeeper and would hate to see him go!

Agree with most people on here that it is probably the right time for Bart to move on, done really well for the club and I think we will always hold him in high esteem here. It would be quite good if we could get Pym in as well, I don't think Wright is quite there yet an he is really short for a keeper which is slightly concerning....although Supple was good!. Holy and Pym would be 2 good young keepers to have on the books (27 is still young for a keeper), rather him than Matt Ingram who is very inconsistent

It's a good move for all concerned, but given Birmingham City's financial situation I'd be surprised if it's for a high fee.

Bart is a fantastic keeper. I don't care what people say, but one shaky seaaon (supported by a shaky defense) does not erase his superb previous form.

Supporters' Player of the Year for three successive seasons. WE voted him that. It's time show him a bit more respect than 'Yeah...he's alright...'

He would be a star asset in League One, but it's understandable if other clubs come calling.

Great stopper but his communication with defenders and distribution are poor at best. Glad to get his huge wages off the books and get a young keeper with promise in. Hope someone comes in for captain calamity but who would want him on the wages we pay him?????. In short our defence is diabolical with these two on huge wages and we would be better off without them looking to the future.

Let's not go back to the negative : let's not renew a diatribe about the unfortunate ,but concentrate on all that's positive !
Keepers above all thrive on confidence ,AND there can be NO doubt something or someone destroyed morale and self belief ,and BB seemed to suffer markedly ! He is a good man, good keeper and still has much to offer for quite some time to come !

The Marcus Evans downgrade continues.
This Summer we're replacing World Cup squad members with League 2 players.
And like last Summer we are lapping it up in a wave of positivity.

Yes it's inevertable that Bart will go, if he has any ambition to play for his cfountry he has to go to a championship club or a newly promoted Premiership one.
It's best for both parties, frees up wages and gives Lambert a little money to work with.
Thanks Bart for some superb performances between the sticks, you have saved us from from being relegated on previous seasons, you have made the difference.
What went wrong this past season, because I'm sure something has unsettled you and I don't think it's McCarthy going. I hope you make it known at the appropriate time.

Wright should be number 2 . Well up to that mark now imo.
I think most town supporters would wish Bart all the best. A fantastic servant to the club

Struggles with the ball at his feet and equally his kicking is poor. Doesn't fit the way Lambert wants us to play out from the back and I think that is the real story here.

Pay their original bid of £3m they can have him . No problem!

Not one mention of the single biggest factor of Bart's dip in form. Malcolm Webster retiring. I think that unsettled him the most. A great Ipswich player that basically kept us up on his own for 2 seasons, and voted our Player of the year 3 times. Thank you Bart, we wish you all the best and I hope you get to play for Poland 🇵🇱 again as I know hoe proud you would be.

I think that Bart will come good again next season because he will have had a good summer rest,
Last summer he did admit that he did not have enough rest, Hurst ORDERED him in to training after just a week off, saying he would be dropped if he did not appear, Hence we had the presence of Gerkin for awhile in goal.

Would like him to stay, brilliant keeper for me and l think he will have a good season next year and return to form. We must keep our star players as league one will be tough.....come on Bart stay 👍😀

Bargain when we got him in view of his performances. Great shot stopper, not so great at commanding his area or with his feet. Clearly not so great last season. Very good at public relations, but delays signing that contract, and the woeful reasons given dented that a bit for me.He was clearly expecting a higher profile from the World Cup which would give him options. Didn't happen, but got a bumper deal, and had his worst season with us. A decent Championship keeper at best, £1M-£2M? Big saving on wages.☑️

Bart has been brilliant for us. Ok last season wasn't his best but man did he have credit in the bank for so many of his outstanding performances in previous seasons. He might of gone off the boil a bit but then he was in and out of the team a bit and the Hurst situation seemed to unsettle him. Whoever he plays for next season I wish him the very best of luck. He more than earned his keep here and he'll be fondly remembered by most of us for a very long time.
