Skuse: Squad Looking Forward to Germany Trip
Thursday, 4th Jul 2019 12:43

The Town squad fly out to Germany this afternoon for their pre-season training camp and midfielder Cole Skuse says it’s something the players have been looking forward to, even if they know it’s going to be hard work.

The Blues face Bundesliga side SC Paderborn in their first friendly on Saturday before taking part in the Interwetten Cup in Meppen on Sunday 14th July before flying back the following day.

"We're all looking forward to it and it should be a good trip," Skuse told iFollow Ipswich.

"We're under the instructions that it will be 10 days where we're very close and spending a lot of time with each other - that will be brilliant for the new lads that have come in.

"Some of the younger guys, that haven't been on many pre-season trips, should enjoy it too. We're there to bond and I think that's important.

"It will be hard work but nice to travel around for our games and see some different places.

“I've also been told to prepare a few of my famous quizzes for the lads when we've got some downtime.”

Yesterday, new striker James Norwood and midfielder Alan Judge joined up with the squad having been given additional time off following their involvement in the play-offs with Tranmere and with the Republic of Ireland squad respectively.

You can find details of Town’s pre-season fixtures ahead of 2019/20 here.

Meanwhile, ex-Town striker Daryl Murphy, 36, is reported to have been told he can leave Nottingham Forest by new manager Sabri Lamouchi.

The Irish international frontman has a year left on his contract at the City Ground.

Elsewhere, Murphy's former Blues team-mate Damien Delaney, 37, has announced his retirement from the game having left Waterford, where he has been skipper since the start of the Irish season.

Get Murphy in now on a free, perfect target man for Norwood to feed off.

Nice little trip for Skusey to brown nose himself into the team sheet.

Murphy's wages would no doubt be a stumbling block! :( Would love him back for one last season though

"...it will be 10 days where we're very close and spending a lot of time with each other".

That's gonna go one of two ways.
Lets hope they do bond rather than get on each others nerves.

I'm pretty certain most of us were sorry to see him go : what the considerations were of course we are not privileged to know !
PL will have his feelers out on all the options ,& I'm certain will know ( if he wants to) whether DM would like a return and whether HE could make use of his leadership, skills and attributes .
Cannot believe PL& co are yet satisfied with our attacking options ,so we shall soon see .

Att: Afcfee:

I suspect that you have never played footbal at a decent level.
Those that have tend to appreciate CK's value and ability
Why have 2 managers, as diverse as MM and PL, both had him as a central element in their teams?

Not because of his 'brown nosing' #AbsurdComment

I'd love to see Murphy back. He and Norwood would surely be too good for League 1 defences.

Why is it that some fans on this site have to have a scapegoat? Someone to blame as solely responsible when things go wrong?

This year it looks evenly split between Skuse and Chambers. Do these people get upset when they have a good game and they have nothing to moan about?

I support Ipswich and Cole Shuse plays for them so gets my encouragement and support. Yes, if he has a bad game or makes a big mistake, then I will be the first on here and say so. But then he has my full support for the next match.

I do not think that slagging him off before he even kicks a ball in League 1 will do him or the moral of the team any good. Let's get behind out players and support them for once!

PL stated he wanted players brought in early.
We go to Germany with a much weaker squad than last season.
We need a minimum of 4 quality additions.
This wont happen now as it'll involve a fee.
Plus all new recruitment need to play a full pre season.
This is all a disaster before anything's began.
Many L1 teams have recruited early with quality additions.
We continue to do things arse about face.
I wouldn't mind Murphy back. But has a Walter's ring to it.
We need players who can step in to get the job done from the off. Not ageing players who done a great job for us years ago.

There is just no argument that all managers have continued with 4&8.
Hasn't really worked upto now has it.

results in preseason will matter after our very ropey season. I'm still having nightmares from weak and clueless play at Preston and Sheffield utd. Thought the idea from Mr Lambert was to get players in early. I'm concerned how naive we still are

I wouldn't say no as his presence in box would be great for Norwood. Forest want shot of him and I doubt Championship teams would be interested. No way on left side as not mobile enough!
Trouble with getting in new players is at this time too many are dreaming of better opportunities which is why it's easier to sign at end of month when they become more realistic.

Murphy in for a year beside Norwood with Judge in the hole I can't see many div1 sides dealing with that!! all we have to do is have a strong holding midfielder and a strong central defensive pairing which we do not have!!.

Edmundo added 18:22 - Jul 4
Flying off with basically the same defence, minus the loans, potentially makes us weaker than ever at the back. Really need to get business done for a the left side of our defence at the least.

All 7 of you........🤔....wheres the signings?

ITFCsince73 added 19:11 - Jul 4
Afcfee. If he gets himself on the team sheet on ability alone....we really are in the brown stuff.
What we do know is 100% ain't his scoring ability. Which would be poor even for an old fashioned sweeper, who doesn't pass the half way line.
