Gerken Set to Rejoin Colchester
Monday, 8th Jul 2019 08:23

Former Blues keeper Dean Gerken is expected to rejoin his former club Colchester United later this week.

Gerken, 34, has been linked with a return to the U’s, where he began his senior career, since May having been released by the Blues after six years.

According to the Colchester Gazette, Gerken is training with John McGreal’s squad with both club and player keen to complete a deal, 10 years after his departure for Bristol City.

Gerken joined Town on a free transfer after a trial having left the Robins in the summer of 2013 and went on to make 113 starts for the Blues.

The Rochford-born keeper made 126 appearances during his first spell with Colchester, making his debut in 2004 having come through their youth system.

i still think in league 1 he could put a decent shift in for any club, don't see why they didn't offer him a 1 year contract. all the best gerks

I read that he wanted to play regularly at 1st team level which Lambert could not guarantee

In my opinion he was a decent goalkeeper but maligned because he was always compared to Bart. Both goalkeepers have their weak points but I would hope that Col U supporters would encourage Gerks rather than deride him. Good luck to him at this stage in his career.
