Town Take Up Option on Nolan's Contract
Monday, 6th Jul 2020 14:41

Town have taken up the one-year option on midfielder Jon Nolan’s contract.

Like keeper Tomas Holy, the 28-year-old, who joined the Blues in the summer of 2018 from Shrewsbury, was moving into the final season of his terms having signed a three-year deal with an option for an additional season. He is now tied to Town until the summer of 2022.

Liverpool-born Nolan has made 44 starts and nine sub appearances for the Blues, scoring five times." "

Not at all sure he's as totally committed as he ought to be professionally : has looked lightweight on the pitch and lacking desire and energy , doesn't look at all like a goal scoring mid- fielder .
Maybe we need him signed up to develop sale options ?

Not entirely convinced we have seen the best of Nolan, especially after speaking to a Shrewsbury ST Holder. I am also unsure that we have a position for his style of play. However 5 goals from 44 starts could be deemed as prolific in our current midfield.
I wish hi all the best, however I do fear for his ability to fit into an ever changing Starting XI and ever changing tactics.
When we play 4 at the back and a static holding midfielder just in front, it does expose and isolate the midfield and strikers.
I think he is a more than capable player, but unfortunately not in the system we play (whatever that may be, as I am unsure PL knows either).
Anyway Good Luck Jon, hope the next year goes well for you !!!

average ,hot and cold player IMO. But we have to be realistic about things ,we are not going to attract too many players from higher levels now.

If an offer came in I'd consider it useful on his day but hasn't hit his stride here. .....like so many others

Who in our midfield actually impressed, correct nobody. Huws and Bishop are never going to be fully fit again, we keep hearing Dozzells a player of potential when our we going to see it, Skuse has been a great servant to the club but is now past his best. Alan Judge who always gives one hundred percent with not much effect has not been the same player since being linked with QPR . So Nolan is probably the best of a very poor bunch give him another year.

Perfectly decent midfielder who we haven't seen the best of & who should certainly be causing havoc for defenders as part of an Ipswich side playing Division 1 football. Why he hasn't been better is probably as much down to how the team has been set up to play, as it is down to his own ability & confidence.
Not as good as Bishop or Judge is that advanced role behind the strikers, but with our record of injuries & loss of form, should get plenty more game time.

Nolan has been awful. He's provided the lowest RoI of all Hurst's signings, and that's quite an achievement. I'd be surprised if our points average while he has been in the team isn't among the lowest of any player in ITFC history. He's blocked the progress of our promising youngsters. Our season fell apart this year when he returned to the team. His position exists to score and create goals, and he's woefully inadequate. Please can we give up on Jon Nolan already.

Came here with rave reviews but I've never seen anything from him to justify the hype. Those who say give him more time are probably the same people who think Evans will turn the club around after 13 years of ownership!

My guess would be this is a cheaper option than trying to sign someone better!

Nolan's been in reverse gear. Plenty of room for improvement and if he knows he fades out of games (like many) Hope he does something about it.

He has never ( as yet ) lived up to his “ best league one midfielder “ tag. Maybe he just doesn't fit in at Town ?

Promised much but has yet to deliver. Getting to an age where he won't get many more options so should knuckle down and give it his all to try and play Championship football with Town or earn a better offer from elsewhere. His heart don't seem to be here currently.

Maybe if he was given a run of games in his best position, which is as an attacking midfielder, we may see the best of him. He appears tentative when playing in the holding role, which is not his position. Imo, it's another case of a player being played out of position, thus we dont get the best out of him. But as usual we have fans who will simply slate him and say hes rubbish. He clearly isnt as he was so much better at shrewsbury. People saying hes not committed or his heart not in it? If that was the case I'm sure he wouldnt be staying. While it's the club whove taken up the option, um sure if he didnt want to be here, theyd have agreed to let him go.

Pleased about this. You can see when Nolan gets possession his first thought is to move the ball forward, either with the ball at his feet or by knocking it on and that IMO is the sign of a good midfielder.

Nolan is a passenger in the side and has been since he came in. Doesn't create enough, doesn't score enough and looks weak in the tackle. We should actively be looking to offload him as it isn't working out for him here, plus he's blocking the way for our more promising youngsters like Dobra and El Mizouni. To think we paid a cool £2m for him and Nsiala - probably one of the worst bits of business during the Evans era and there is plenty of competition in that regard.

blues1 don't put the blame on fans for Nolan being garbage for two seasons. He has hid across two divisions and neither his mentor Hurst nor Lambert who appears to be an admirer of his have got anything out of him.

I know the player himself says that he would prefer to be a box-to-box midfielder, and maybe playing him in that role will help him and us. But he has it all to do given that he and Nsiala are synonymous with our fall from grace over the last 2 seasons.

"when Nolan gets possession his first thought is to move the ball forward" - Lol, football is a subjective topic, but this is so far outside my perception of JN, we must have existed in two entirely separate stadiums at once while watching ITFC. I think we've just proved quantum mechanics is possible with humans as well as atoms.

Think Nolan is a good player hasn't quite yet found his feet at the club.
Think In the new season he will come good, give him a run in the team see what he can do

People on here keep going on about our promising youngsters. I watch the u23s and u18s and apart from Dobra we haven't got any one outstanding. I'm older enough to remember when we produced players who played for England now they end up going out on loan to non league clubs a sad state of affairs.

Dobra and Dozzell are not non-league standard and were blocked by Nolan this season.

Grow a pair - Go back to your ‘whizz pop bang mag' muppet. I know which stadium I'm at every game! It's the inclusion of Skuse who's holding us back, literally

Not been impressed with him at all..out of his depth in the championship & really poor this season..should've been getting double figures in goals at this level..not 2..pathetic.

Another of our midfielders who seriously need to up his game next season.
