Blues Target Preston Midfielder Harrop
Tuesday, 12th Jan 2021 19:46

Preston North End attacking midfielder or wideman Josh Harrop is on the Blues’ list of January loan targets.

Discussions have been ongoing with the Lilywhites for more than a week but we understand a deal is currently not close to being done with incoming business at Deepdale - Ben Whiteman is close to signing from Doncaster - potentially having an impact on whether Harrop will be allowed to move on.

Town manager Paul Lambert wants to give his players some help in the January window with general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill having said that the Blues are looking for attacking players.

We understand Harrop is high on Town’s list of potential signings along with Luke Thomas, who is looking to move to play more games having had limited opportunities at Barnsley.

Another player TWTD has learned the Blues were keen on is 18-year-old Manchester City winger Morgan Rogers, who opted to join Lincoln City on loan last week.

Harrop, who may have been the player Stuart Taylor said Town had hoped to sign before the weekend game against Swindon, joined Preston in June 2017 having come through the youth system at Manchester United, where he made one Premier League start for the Red Devils in a 2-0 home win over Crystal Palace on the final day of 2016/17 and scored the opening goal.

The 25-year-old, who is 5ft 9in tall, has made 39 starts and 55 sub appearances for Preston, scoring 13 times.

However, this season Stockport-born Harrop has made four starts, one in the Championship, and four appearances from the bench, scoring once.

Capped three times by England’s U20s, Harrop signed a new contract at Deepdale which runs to 2023 in August.

At 25, Harrop counts as a senior player in terms of the salary cap with the club having a limit of 22 players aged over 21.

I never thought I would live to see the day we need to rely on loan signings from Barnsley or Preston. Oh how our club has fallen. 💙💙

Why would any attack minded player want to come here at the moment!? They will either be played out of position or riding the bench. Just ask Sears, Jackson, Drinan, Hawkins, Dobra...etc.

Why don't we set a height target for incomers ?( of course linked to ability ) ,for we as a team must be below average height ,as well as physical presence .
But , hey, if we can get talent in then well and good !

We could have Messi and Ronaldo up front and it wouldn't matter, once our defence has passed it around between themselves at a walking pace for 5 minutes the opposition have plenty of time to set themselves up to defend our feeble attacks

Could help us with our relegation battle ahead to be fair.

2 x35 years old wingbacks not very exciting.

Yes Suffolk boy ive been saying for a long time we look so physically inept. Even our youngsters look like they haven't had a decent dinner in months.

Totally underwhelming. Are either of these players significantly better than what exists in our own ranks, incl under-23s? Without a fundamental change to our team set-up, and associated training regimes, incoming talent will simply be absorbed into sterile mediocrity. Expecting them to be our saviours by providing dynamic, creative, impetus is, I fear, wishful thinking. Yes, I know, that sounds hyper-negative; but it's going to take much more than two C'ship fringe players to turn our fortunes around.

Why are we trying to get a player who is injured and has been out of form, silly me he will fit in perfectly.

Think he is one of the players that Watson of EADT suggested we should try and sign

Suffers with hamstring problems so should fit right in. Pull his hamstring in the first game and then be out for 6 weeks

Know he had a really bad injury so good for him that he's playing again.

So Morgan Rogers saw Lincoln as a better bet than us........terrible times.....!!

Yaaaay!..another injury prone loanee...when will we ever learn?..never it seems.

This is not about bringing in more players - we can bring in 11 of them but without a manager & coaching team who are capable of getting the best out of them then any new signings are utterly pointless.

Never thought I'd say it but I couldn't give a stuff now tbh . It just feels like this Club is treading water but steadily going under.

I would like to see a couple of good quick full backs in if possible(really think we missed out on Garbutt due to tightness of ME), I say this because there is something strange about KVY situation as it seems he's been not far away for 3 months now.
Also think we DEFINITELY have MORE THAN ENOUGH firepower up front and the midfield to push for a top 2 place, IF THEY ARE PLAYED IN CORRECT POSITIONS AND NOT JUST 4:3:3.
With a new attacking manager

Oh great, let's go down this road again - identify a target, wait until the target club does their business, all other targets get swept up while we're waiting, can't come to an agreement, end up sign someone utter crap just to show we tried to do something.

Need a tough tackling midfielder. Vinnie Jones style. Far too easy atm for opposition players to bypass our midfield like it's not there. Alternatively, someone who can play as a FB.

runningout added 21:57 - Jan 12
don't blame any player for moving to Lincoln City on loan ahead of us. They can play with ease and motivation from a switched on coach. We are looking too lightweight at times and need to liven up. We have true ability, but it's wasted

casanovacrow added 21:59 - Jan 12
The usual burn money option. Will he get us up? Doubtful. Will we have a salable asset with our investment at the end of it? No. This is exactly why we are where we are today, years of this short term cr4p under Mick.

Move along ...nothing to see here.
