Wednesday, 24th Feb 2021 12:10

Former Town central defender Jack Bolton died on Monday aged 79.

Born in Lesmahagow in Scotland in October 1941, Bolton joined the Blues from Raith Rovers in July 1963 during Jackie Milburn’s time as boss and made 77 appearances and scored two goals before departing for Morton in May 1966.

Bolton rejoined Raith Rovers, where he was known as Jake and latterly appeared as a club legend at Hall Of Fame events, in 1967 and finished his career with Dumbarton.

RIP Jack..my everlasting memory was of him scoring an absolute screamer from 35yds against Carlisle 1965, although a central defender and because of injuries at that time he was used as a centre forward.

Not the most elegant of players but always gave 100%. Milburn bought him and Jim Thorburn from Raith after a season they conceded well over a 100 goals! Thorburn was not a great success strangely enough.

R.I.P. Jack it was a difficult period under Jackie Milburn after our title winning exploits as the team had broken up and Milburn(i felt sorry for him) was clearly not a manager, but through that Jack you always tried your best in a blue shirt.

He signed my autograph books a few times back in the days when you could walk into Portman road and watch the training sessions. Sad news.

Great memories for me it was my first season watching the Town. Sadly this was the start of a barren time for the Town. There's was also another Bolton at the club Ronnie but i don't think they were related. RIP Jackie.

RIP Jack. I saw many of his appearances in a Town shirt.
!963-64 was a disastrous season for everyone but Jack played a part in stabilising things in the next two seasons.

Linkboy the other Bolton was Ronnie Bolton. We signed him from Bournemouth and sold him back to them. After that he played for them against Bury Town at Kings Road in the FA Cup. They were both about as successful as each other.
