Cook: I Will Be Like Demolition Man Over the Next Six Weeks
Friday, 16th Apr 2021 09:54

Town boss Paul Cook says he’ll be like Demolition Man over the next six weeks with the changes that are coming to Ipswich Town.

The Blues manager held little back at his morning press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game at Charlton Athletic.

Cook dismissed a rumour that on-loan Tottenham striker Troy Parrott had been sent back to the Premier League club and told reporters to expect more gossip along those lines in the weeks to come as he makes what will be very extensive changes to his squad.

“There’s no truth in that rumour,” he said. “What you guys will now get is a million rumours because, as you know, I will be like Demolition Man over the next six weeks. You will hear rumours on every player, every bust-up, everything that goes wrong.

“This is going to be a very unhappy club over the next two or three weeks because the changes are coming. When there are announcements on players, whether it be Troy Parrott, Luke Chambers, James Norwood, Kayden Jackson, the club will make announcements.

“One of the things we can’t stop today is social media, Twitter, all the outlets will spread rumours that unfortunately until we substantiate them won’t be true.

“But that’s what happens at big football clubs and at the minute I want to be very respectful and careful to every player at our club.

“These lads have all got families, all these lads have worked hard in their career to get to Ipswich Town and we must do things with a bit of class now. A little bit of class, irrespective of whether it’s Player A, Player B and all the way to Z. There’s a proper way to deal with stuff at football clubs.

“Me, as a manager of the club, it’s in-house, it’s done properly and our fans then know what we’re doing is exactly what they want for this football club.”

He added: “Our players are very, very aware of my feelings. If the whole squad didn’t want to come back from Wimbledon the other night, it wouldn’t have bothered me. I’d have got on with the season.

“It's where I’m at, I don’t really think I [need to say any more]. Obviously from you guys, I accept all the different stuff, all the players have agents and all the above. I couldn’t care less any more.”

Given that, might some of the younger players who are yet to feature play a part in the weeks to come? “If the 18 from Wimbledon don’t turn up, you’ll have to see more, won’t you? I think the new 18 would get more support than the other 18 from our supporters.

“All I’d say to our supporters is ‘stay with us for the rest of the season please’. There will be more pain. There has to be more pain, but for that pain to go the sunshine will start coming through this summer at our club.”

blues1 - Bishop and Dozzell have only been holding midfielders at times this season (more Bishop) but both have looked poor over the last few months where ever they play...both look quite lightweight which is no doubt something Cookie will look at as Judge and Edwards are also in the same category...a bit more of a physical stature in the midfield needs to be asserted. If somebody comes in for Dozzell with a reasonable offer I'd be delighted.

And for those that stay - STEP UP - or STEP OUT - and try and get a cushy living elsewhere.

High Noon & High Time has at last arrived at Portman Road.

Go to it Paul - give that wrecking ball a bl00dy good swing from me while you're at it.

About time the dross at this club was cleared-out once and for all.

Not the Ipswich way we have all become used to but long overdue and just had to change as nice and comfortable is not the way forward.

I feel sorry for a few of our youngsters like Doz and Bish who could've been developed under a better manager, coaching staff and in a better team but they've had their chances and time to look at the next crop of youngsters coming through. This is cut-throat business now and it has to be performance-driven.

Good on ya Cookie, very very interesting times ahead.

WOW. Has Christmas just come early because Santa has just delivered a pressie off my wish list!! How long has it taken us long suffering fans to finally get to this point! Fantastic news. I don't care if we lose every game left this season now because in PC i trust. At long last a manager that sees it as it is, says it as it is, understands our frustrations and more importantly, has the ba**s to do something about it. The pride will slowly return to PR and trust me, its long overdue.

Chambers finally has to go but it seems funny that a lot on here have got it in for a defender when we've only scored 41 goals this year, 10 less than bottom club Rochdale.

The right prescription for ITFC!

Something drastic has been needed since the last few months of McCarthy's tenure. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Chambers should have stood down as captain long ago as he has failed dismally to carry out the role and has presided over our decline. This will be a root and branch rebuilding of the club.....

He has no time for mediocrity. Let's face facts this lot dont care, so rightly PC doesn't care about them of they can't be bothered. Let the clear out begin.

Players need a whole new mindset. Maybe when they move on to benefit their futures in Professional football

Hope it is a final good bye to the senior players who have cheated a living at this club. They completely fooled Evans but not 90% of the supporters.

Demolition Man? Simon Phoenix! The Arizona link isn't lost on me there. Sad it didn't work out with Judge, was hoping he was the type of player who would take responsibility on the pitch in the same way Magilton did. Exciting new chapter for ITFC. COYB!

The man's a leader no doubting that. And let's hope he can build around some of the quality youngsters in the team. When he was commentating our games on Sky, you could almost hear the frustration he felt about our team. Almost felt like a mini job interview...

Uber & Hermes have plenty of openings in London. As fa's as I am concerned Cook should have brought back an empty coach and let the squad cope for themselves.
Keep it up Cook, you are growing on me more everyday.
Real hope for 21/22.

Two statements form PC are interesting as to what is behind them.
1. "If the whole squad didn't want to come back from Wimbledon the other night, it wouldn't have bothered me."
2. “If the 18 from Wimbledon don't turn up, you'll have to see more, won't you?"

I have a feeling that PC has laid into them from the moment he arrived and it hasn't sat well with the players, hence, no "New Manager Bounce". These two statements leads me to believe that he is finally given up with them and has told them not to bother turning up t the club unless they are going to work harder.

Tomorrows team selection will be interesting and perhaps will give some insight into who PC wants to stay and who can go. Their performance will show who wants to stay and fight for his place and those that want away.

Can't keep making excuses for Dozzell and Bishop Blues 1 . What your excuse for lack of effort no time to get rid of Pinky and Perky.
