Blues Again Linked With Crewe Wideman
Sunday, 27th Jun 2021 08:34

Town reportedly remain interested in Crewe Alexandra winger Owen Dale but with other League One sides also eyeing the 22-year-old.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Portsmouth are eyeing Dale as a replacement for Ronan Curtis if the Irishman moves on but with Town and Wycombe Wanderers both still keen.

The Railwaymen are said to be asking a £1 million fee for Dale, who was initially mentioned in connection with the Blues in April and then again in May when they were said to be weighing-up a £600,000 move.

Dale scored 12 times in 35 starts and 13 sub appearances during 2020/21 and was named December’s League One Player of the Month having netted four goals in four games.

The Warrington-born right-sided wideman came through the academy ranks at Gresty Road and spent time on loan at Witton Albion and Altrincham as a youngster.

In April, Town boss Paul Cook revealed at a press conference that he was at Crewe’s 2-2 draw at Charlton in which Dale scored both his side’s goals.

If PC wants him in this slimmed down squad of better quality players then let's spend the money and get him in especially given the positive £££ business done so far. COYB

This looks a good move as he can play both sides and probably a wiser investment than Jacobs but I expect Cook will get him too. Still no news on any interest in Jackson quelle surprise

This could be a promising move he's scored more goals than our strikers.

Wallingford boy... "struggled to get in crewes side last season" ...

35 starts and 13 sub appearances, plus 12 goals.

Doesn't sound like a fringe player.

Good signing if true but I would go shopping at Wimbledon who really impressed me in the latter part of last season - Pigott is the obvious choice but Assal looked like a potential star of the future. One or two others impressed.

Wallyboy I think you got your facts wrong.

I'm hoping that the next two signings are the Portsmouth keeper McGillvray - they've just signed a replacement plus Amos has seemingly gone to Wigan - plus Siegrist who I know nothing about but appears highly rated. Then it's a dominant centre half or two (one will hopefully be our new skipper - shame about the Luton lad), a decent left back and definitely another goalscorer but then that's still only the bones of a side. I don't know about anyone else but I've never found myself checking TWTD so much in an average day - it's almost become an obsession! PS it's also become increasingly amusing to read the comments of some of the expert commentators on this forum who have an ‘informed' opinion on the most unlikely and obscure players that let's face it most of us have never heard of let alone have any knowledge of. 😂

Where would he play? Or what would that mean for where Burns would play?

Kropotkin. What do you mean where will he play? Hes essentially a left winger, who can play in the right. So he plays on the left, burns on the right. Simple really.

We really need some goals in the team. Cook bemoaned the lack of goals in the side last season, but up till now hasnt really addressed it. Norwood wont stay fit enough to score them, and will probably be injured after a month. The new lad Bonne isnt that prolific and seems like he likes to play in a 2 up, so cant see him liking Cookiemonsters 1 up top policy. Burns maybe attacking if he get the cjance as he is probably cover for KVY, who again cant seem to stay fit. Therefore we really need some attacking midfielders and another striker who can hold the ball up.
There is much to do as we also need 1 maybe 2 goalkeepers, a big strong centre half, a left back and some creative midfielders. Still way short of what we are going to need for this campaign.

Everybody seems to be writing James Norwood off. blue warrior thinks Pigott is better but looking at last seasons stats Norwood was better.(when fit). Goals per 90 mins was 0.46 for Pigott & 0.55 For Norwood. Crazy but fact.

East Anglian Daily Times just stated that Town have not entered into any negotiations for Owen Dale. He is just another player in the list we are being linked with. Hopefully they are misinformed & we can attempt to bring him to PR.

A fully fit Norwood with good players around him scores goals in this league.
Hes not a championship striker but can hurt teams at this level.

Yes i agree Norwood can score loads of goals at this level. But i said this at the start of last season more injuries and antics off the pitch from Norwood hope im wrong this time and he's going to concentrate on his football ?

If the new background staff do help change our fortunes around player fitness and injuries, there is a

Oops, big fingers small keyboard. I think with the background staff for fitness, we may well find players like Norwood are injured far less often and will score goals.

Also, another player who can score goals, will be well appreciated by any fan, as we all know we need goals.

OwainG1992,
You hit the nail on the head. With good service Norwood will definitely score goals so hopefully that is what he will get from Lee Evans & co. Fingers Crossed.
