Connor Cook, the son of Blues boss Paul, has joined the Town academy as a scholar, TWTD can reveal.

Cook first featured for the U18s during pre-season and has been in and around Adem Atay’s squad since their Professional Development League Two South campaign got under way.

The 17-year-old lined up in right midfield in the pre-season friendly away against Essex side May & Baker but is understood to be able to operate in a variety of positions. He is believed to have previously been with Wigan's youth set-up.

Town’s U18s remain top of PDL2 South with no league games having been played this weekend when they were in Professional Development League Cup action, losing 6-2 at Coventry with Fin Barbrook and Archie Kieran on the scoresheet. They host QPR at Playford Road in the league on Saturday.

Plenty of kids of players or staff that have come through town - off the top of my head I can think Richard Wright (Harry) and Jason Dozell (Andre) kids for starters, plus Andy Rhodes (Jordan) Don't see the difference here, but because its Cook its somehow worthy of sarcastic comments. Good luck to the kid and welcome aboard, I say. Show us and the negative "fans" what you've got.

Europablue added 12:34 - Sep 20 It would be weird if he was suddenly in first team contention, but it does only seem natural for a son to be based where his Dad and presumably the family home are. There are definitely genetics involved, so if the father was a good player, there is a good chance that the son will be too.

Nigel Clough turned out well too although apparently Brian was a cracking player in his day (never had the pleasure of seeing Brain play as he was before my time). But I do certainly remember he was a hell of a manager!

Players will only remain in the academy if they continue to develop and improve. Good luck to the lad. He has to have some talent or he'll be gone next term.
