Morsy Banned For Four Matches
Tuesday, 25th Jan 2022 18:01

Town skipper Sam Morsy has been banned by the FA for four games with immediate effect for violent conduct during Saturday’s game against Accrington Stanley.

The 30-year-old was charged by the FA yesterday regarding a clash with Stanley midfielder Ethan Hamilton just before the half hour.

Morsy was given until today to respond to the charge, which was subsequently upheld by an FA regulatory commission.

Town CEO Mark Ashton told the club site: “We are extremely disappointed with today’s decision from the regulatory commission, to which we cannot appeal.

“Losing our captain is obviously a massive blow, but myself, Kieran McKenna and the coaching staff have full belief in the rest of the squad during the period that Sam will now be unavailable to help deliver the results that we want.”

Morsy tweeted his disappointment at the commission's decision.

The Egyptian international's absence means manager McKenna will be forced into at least one change for this evening's match at AFC Wimbledon.

Morsy will also miss Saturday's trip to Sheffield Wednesday, the home game against Gillingham and the Blues' visit to Doncaster Rovers.

Complete farce, referees are never held to account, but a whinging chairman shows a single angle which does not show a definitive contact and Morsey gets a 4 match ban.
Is the Accrington player being charged with a studs up contact against Walton, no.

No complaints from me, would have to be the bluest of blue spectacles to argue against that. Could be very costly, a very important player for us.

As soon as I saw the clip of the incident posted on twitter I knew he would be in trouble unfortunately.

While I'm sure he didn't mean to hit the player in the face and contact was minimal (the player went down like he'd taken a haymaker from Anthony Joshua), if you raise your hands you always run a risk, so unfortunately I cannot complain too much that he has been banned, if 4 games does seem harsh.

Hopefully he can keep himself fit and be raring to go in 4 games time. Gives a chance for one of our fringe players to step up for a run of games - or maybe we will look for a loan as Morsey is key to our side.

With the size of the squad we should be able to win 3 out of the next 4 matches without Morsey.Who will get the captains armband now?.

Very disappointing news. He does however have form, so probably no surprise. This could prove very costly.

What complete b0ll0cks–it was minimal, accidental contact, initiated by the Accrington player trying to grab him. Ref handled it right. Four games? Absurd.

It's a complete c@nt of a decision but genuine promotion chasers don't get derailed by one player being out. We have Bakinson and Evans to shore up the midfield if we want to be defensive (Sheff We'd away) and attacking options aplenty for tonight plus the Gills and Donny. I thought Carroll was very tidy on Saturday - classy even so I don't see it as the disaster some do. Wish me luck in the away stand tonight! 😂

Guys, we have to accept it as a calf strain or a groin would put him out for 2-3 weeks, its no big deal but we store it away for future reference, what goes around comes around

Saxondale. Ur talking rubbish. Ucleay didn't watch the video carefully enough. There's no proof of what contact he made, with what he made contact, and where the where the contact was. Even the player himself said he wasn't sure if it was punch or a shove.

While there may be no appeal of the ban, there would be an option of applying for judicial review if the decision was arguably irrational. It's a high bar to reach, however, and a costly, time-consuming process. But Ipswich could apply to set aside the ban pending the outcome of the JR, for example.

Like Morsy a lot, and don't mind a bit of "70"s stuff but I do find myself taking a sharp intake of breath whenever there's a 50/50......or maybe a 40/60!

We should look on the bright side. We could have had to play with 10 men for the last hour on Saturday, and still has Morsy missing games, not sure how many though.

Is the Accrington chairman going to be charged over his comments by the incompetent FA?

The refereeing and FA decisions we've seen since being in this league just continues to astound me. Reminds me of that ridiculous red card Nsiala was given against Wednesday, which the FA decided to uphold.

Crazy we have seen some terrible officials over the past 3 years. Those who officiated the Wycombe game 2 years ago. No action taken.
Strange than such a ban occurs at this level & why the FA when this is thd football league
