McKenna at Youth Cup Final
Thursday, 12th May 2022 09:46

Town boss Kieran McKenna was spotted at last night’s FA Youth Cup final between his old club Manchester United and Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford, which the home side won 3-1.

McKenna, who turns 36 on Saturday, was among a number of United figures in the directors’ box including Sir Alex Ferguson, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Michael Carrick, and current players Bruno Fernandes, Tom Heaton and Eric Bailly, as well as former Bolton, West Ham and England boss Sam Allardyce.

McKenna joined the Blues from the Red Devils, where he had been first-team coach, in December.

Between 2016 to 2018 the Northern Irishman was United’s U18s coach and he and Carrick were invited to the game as a thank-you for their past work with the academy.

Hopefully we won't be signing Man utd youngsters on loan or permanently, you'll never win anything with kids.

Gforce. Seem to remember a certain esteemed bloke by the name of Alan Hansen, who made that exact statement, just before Man utd went on to win the treble.

Hopefully McKenna, along with just enjoying himself, is making a shopping list for the future to strengthen the already talented bunch of young lads we already have.
Also getting a few tips and pointers I'm sure.
Don't think any half-decent manager is ever off the clock. Ours is completely decent.

Man Utd might need their best youth players even more urgently than we do! :-)

@raycrawfordswig - there was an article about it on BBC sport the other day, highest attendance ever for an FA youth cup final. I suppose 2 big clubs and the fact Man Utd haven't had anything else to celebrate this season helped that figure lol

the thing about youngsters at really big clubs is they rarely get prolonged exposure very young. Yes i remember 92 side, and Rashford was an exception too, but there will be very good kids they won't have near the first team for ages
With KM's contacts, i wouldn't be surprised if the next Mason Greenwood gets a bit more protection and a one or two year loan deal for one of the special ones might materialize. Man U the will have a very big staff, we've seen Chelsea loan loads out.
And just remember, Beckham went to Preston for a long spell before he broke through.
With KM and MA, i'd rule nothing out

Blues1......It was a bit of tongue in cheek, with reference to the Hansen comment.
However the current Man u crop, are hardly in the league of Beckham, Scholes ,Giggs etc.

Gforce. Yes, I was aware it was a bit tongue in cheek. Love to know howzyou know what their current crop are like tho? Do u watch them regularly? Remember, Beckham went out on loan before he became the player he was. How do u know they don't have any, certainly that would be good at this level.
