Former Loanee Thompson Joins Blackpool
Monday, 25th Jul 2022 18:39

Former Blues loanee Dominic Thompson has joined Championship Blackpool from Brentford on a permanent basis, signing a three-year deal with the Seasiders having an option for a further year.

The 21-year-old left-back spent the second half of last season with the Blues making 15 starts and two sub appearances.

“It’s nice to finally get this deal done with a week to go before the new season starts,” Thompson told the Tangerines’ official website.

“I’ve had experience through the leagues in my career so far, and I believe I can add a lot to this team and help build on the success from last season. I’m athletic and like to contribute to the attack as well as the defence. I’ll always give 100% to the team.

“I’m really looking forward to the future and playing Championship football on a regular basis here at Blackpool.”

Blackpool head coach Michael Appleton added: “Dominic brings a really good pedigree to the club, and is someone I was aware of following his loan spells at Swindon and Ipswich.

“He brings a real athleticism and energy and will offer a lot across the pitch in attack and defence. He knows how to defend one v one and at the back post, which is everything you want in a full-back.

“We’re delighted that we’ve been able to bring him in permanently too, which will only be a good thing for the football club.”

He must have a cracking agent. Good luck to him though.

good luck fella. I do hope Blackpool play 4 at the back though because Dom didn’t have much heading forward

Wasn’t good enough for a league one team in fact Penney is better than him which says a lot! Christ knows how he has pulled this off

Sorry, but I really didn’t think he was anything special. Good luck to him at his new club though.

I'm not gonna be disparaging to the lad, if he can improve his ability to cross the ball and his close control with the pace he poses he has the potential to be championship standard with ease!!

I wish him all the best, he gave his all for us every time he put on the shirt which is more than a couple of the younger lads who were sold last summer ever did for us when we truly needed them.

McK thought he was decent…..last January.

inghamspur that's daft and unnecessary. He was decent, served us well in that position, clearly gives his all and has very good athleticism. Absolutely no reason he can't have a good stint with Blackpool under a decent manager, good luck to him.

Really wasn't anything great for us and always had a stupid mistake in him. Didn't realise he was only 21 though. He has a lot of people to prove wrong, that's for sure

Thought he done a reasonable job for us but lacked a bit physically and was quite easily knocked off the ball a bit like Myles Kenlock in a way. I think the days of us being out muscled in games should well and truly be rectified with this squad. McKenna obviously spotted this as a big problem at the club where other managers didn't.

All those saying he was poor need to realise that he is an out and out left back, not a,wing back. But was being asked to play that role. And thats why we didn't get the best out of him.

Luke Garbett replacement?

Thompson was the best player that McKenna could bring in at short notice. He is clearly a decent player, but he was always likely to only be a stop-gap because McKenna was looking for a player like Davis. It is quite apparent that McKenna planned for the short term and long term, and just because a player doesn't fit into our long-term plans, it doesn't make him a bad player all of a sudden.

I wish him well. Couldn't fault his commitment or effort but he he offered very little going forward and his defending wasn't always that great either.

The comments are laughable people literally saying he was poor going forward bad defensively but can’t fault his effort…is that how much town fans have been conditioned to rubbish football that we praise a below average player for occasionally trying?!
