Buxton Cup Date Set
Thursday, 10th Nov 2022 15:43

Town’s FA Cup second-round tie against National League North side Buxton at Portman Road will be played on Sunday 27th November with a 5pm kick-off for live broadcast overseas.

Although the match wasn’t one of those picked for live coverage here when they were announced yesterday, it is among those being screened abroad.

The Blues defeated Bracknell Town 3-0 at Bottom Meadow on Monday, while the Bucks beat Merthyr Tydfil 2-0 in their first-round tie.

Earlier this week, TWTD caught up for former Town midfielder and current Buxton assistant coach Tommy Miller, who was delighted with the draw.

Miller is also among the guests on Saturday's Life's a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk (midday-2pm).

Sorry for you local boys, but that will do me nicely.

Ridiculous, if its not on UK telly then surely it should be 3.00 on a Saturday.
Actually its about 8.00 am in Arizona so maybe that's it.

That just makes my blood boil. Who cares a dam about the fans. Just try getting to that game by public transport on a Sunday.

Is that the magic of the cup ?
I guees overseas fans might be watching the World Cup rather than Ipswich vs Buxton

Can people in the Uk watch the match or do we have to pretend to be abroad ?

@earlsgreenblue - You needn't be too sorry! ;)

Thanks- obviously all those Buxton overseas viewers will be happy.
All home and away fans in this country won't.
As the pot is split 50:50 Buxton will probably be getting less than a Saturday match!

50% of 4 fans Money they won't be getting.

No consideration given to the fans of either club - why do we sign up to these TV deals that end up costing the club more in lost revenue than we will be paid for hosting a game at such a bizarre time on a Sunday?

He who pays the piper calls the tune.

Whether you like it or not, football today is financially dominated by television revenues so the broadcasters decide the scheduling.

Money over supported. That's 6 of us season ticket holders not going.

Also what about the Buxton supporters that won't now travel at silly o'clock on a Sunday.

Farcical.

On the positive side this now avoids the train drivers' strike on the Saturday.

ITFC should ask themselves serious questions about supporter needs, transport and loyalty !
IF this is to stick , perhaps Mr Ashton can and will explain a) how it's ome to be b) whether ITFC has any choice or influence in the decisions d finally ) what it means or brings in financially !
It's all getting surprisingly grubby and disappointing!
COYB – buck your ideas up !!

Any chance Suffolk plod can get this one changed (like the posh one) to earlier kick off if we ask nicely ?!

IpswichT62OldBoy added 18:16 - Nov 10
Trouble is Flatten, Plod have no say its a TV deal, perhaps if Buxton had a massive notorious InterCity Crew and were bringing 1,500 of them and they were going to spend all day drinking before the game things may be different.

Unbelievable. Can't imagine a more inconvenient time for this.

Suffolkboy - I think you've misunderstood how these TV deals are made. and by whom. Check that out before ranting.

I guess for anyone in the UK not going to the match they can see it Live on ifollow as it is not now a 3:00pm Saturday kick-off and it is not on Sky Sports Live.

OR16 – No ! I've made no mistake ,for I never claimed to know how such deals are made , but DID suggest we're owed a clear explanation of the agencies influencing these outcomes !
It is clear regularly supporters feel justifiably aggrieved ,and their participation and interests are being largely ignored !
As for RANTING , then of course outcomes and the right to comment are in the eye of the beholder ; but I'd totally intended to PRICK a conscience or two !

Joke, the “magic of the cup” completely ruined for Buxton - obviously no consideration for their travelling fans.

Don't think it will be on iFollow as not a league game.
What is the overseas tv company?

Jas0999. Not the clubs decision is it? Down to a TV companyxwanting yo broadcast it. Can only assume that when/if we get to the pl u won't be going to many matches then? As will have games at odd times, and days on a much more regular basis than now.

Was looking forward to this as extra game on a Saturday and FA cup. Was taking my 3 kids. What a great Saturday out with not many league games going on. Now 5pm on the Saturday absolutely no chance. Ridiculous
