McCarthy Set For Blackpool Wednesday, 18th Jan 2023 23:50 Former Blues boss Mick McCarthy is set to be appointed Blackpool manager until the end of the season.
McCarthy, 63, has been out of work since leaving Cardiff in October 2021 having taken charge of the Welshmen in January the same year.
The Seasiders, second bottom of the Championship, are without a boss having sacked Michael Appleton and his assistant, one-time Town full-back David Kerslake, earlier today following a run in which they have won only once in 11 matches.
McCarthy was Town manager from November 2012 until April 2018. Since leaving Portman Road, the former central defender has had a second spell in charge of the Republic of Ireland and a short stint as boss of Cypriot side APOEL.

Very well put blues1, sums up perfectly. I could never understand why he hung around for so long….maybe the £1m per year salary swung it.

I've never understood the sentimentality from some around his reign! An absolute dinosaur who continued to play his favourites in spite of ability or form (Chambers the glaring worst case). There were also a number of players he ignored before going on to prove their worth elsewhere (Webster for example). Stayed for far too long.

Blueboy1981 - you are in cloud cuckooland. We would not have gone down under Mick. Look at that team inb his final season which was still way more skilful than what we have now - Waghorn, Bart, Webster, McGoldrick, iorfa - finished top half and above Norwich. Plus for all this talk of boring football that game at Millwall is still the most exciting Town game I've been to in the last decade. The problem was always Evans, but no - the idiots knew best and after one iffy season when we lost our main striker and he wasn't allowed to replace him he was hounded out. I'm not surprised he lost his rag after all he'd done. I'd have a little more respect for the Mick detractors if they'd finally admit that everyone warned them "be careful what you wish for" - it was proved right, and the problems only finally got sorted when Evans left. But no , they still stick to their tired story that they were right all along despite all evidence pointing to the contrary. I for one would prefer to be in the Championship and even under our new messiah I'm not convinced that's going to be next season yet.

Vandusen I for 1 would have accepted L2 over Mick Ma. I got what I wished for the day he left. The club at last can move forward in a positive fashion for the 1st time in nearly 20 years. 6 of those years under Micks dire leadership. Arguably the most depressing 6 years in the clubs history.

Things went downhill after the play-offs season. Marcus Evans would not or could not find the money to change a good team into serious promotion contenders. At that point Mick decided to make it a priority to just keep us in the Championship. Some people did not like it but some people were told to f off.
