Barnsley Game Postponed
Wednesday, 15th Mar 2023 19:03

Town have confirmed that the game against fourth-placed Barnsley at Oakwell scheduled for Saturday 25th March has been postponed due to international call-ups.

The move had been expected with Wales having named Wes Burns and Nathan Broadhead in their squad for their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Croatia and Latvia, Greg Leigh set to be in the Jamaica party for their CONCACAF Nations League game in Mexico on Monday 27th March and skipper Sam Morsy having been included in a provisional list of overseas players ahead of Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Malawi.

Although not indicating which of the latter pair has been called up, the Blues have now confirmed that the visit to the Tykes is off.

League One clubs are able to request the postponement of matches if they receive three international calls.

No new date has yet been confirmed but it’s expected to be rearranged for a Tuesday late in April, most likely the 25th.

Tickets purchased for the original date will remain valid, while supporters will otherwise be entitled to a refund.

Fans who have received their tickets can claim a refund by returning them to the ticket office or Planet Blue. Those yet to receive theirs can claim a refund via email.

Barnsley are currently six points behind the Blues but with two games in hand having won six and drawn one of their last seven.

Good news. It could be a critical game and we absolutely need the whole squad at the manager's disposal.

While I understand and fully support the club's decision, the system really is broken. What about those fans who have already paid for accomodation and travel?

Bad call to give away a game at this time Id bet Plymouth are the most happy about this.
Who knows what injuries we could have by time play this game now and how far behind

Was back and forth in my own head over which would be the right call on this. Who knows what the form table will be like when the game gets played, but presumably our bigger, stronger squad should allow us to be fresher & with more available options when it is.
Broadhead would have been a big loss from the start & while Jackson would give his all, he'll be a nightmare for them when he comes on from the bench to replace Burns now, to run at tired defenders who will surely have to put in a serious shift to restrict Wes for 60+ minutes. I'm a big fan of Leigh too & would have him in the matchday squad.
If we want to be top two finishers, we have to give ourselves every chance of winning this game.

SouperJim.......What is the solution? There is not one......other than people take responsibility to make bookings where free cancelation is available which is the case on Booking.com and many other such places.

Right Decision
We can't play without 2 of our better players
Barnsley have a busier schedule and I guess smaller squad than ours - lets hope this benefits us
Proper Massive game 25th April- for Div 3 anyway

The date has been a known International weekend all season. That we are affected is a price we pay for having good players. Will be the same next season if we're still at this level. Another reason to get promotion this season.

Tuesday 25th April is looking most likely. Barnsley are going to be playing Tuesday nights forever. Hopefully our magnificent squad will give us the edge as we move towards the back end of the season. COYB

Barnsley will be gutted, especially with 2 extra games to make up. I feel bad for the fan who's lost his money above but it could give ud a real advantage 🤔

Least it gets Norwood more time to get suspended for the fixture!

It's the right call from the club's perspective. I feel for the fans who are losing out. Train tickets should be refundable as a rule considering how often us passengers get screwed over when they either don't run the service properly or don't even bother to turn up for work.

90 quids worth of train tickets down the drain for an international weekend where our players will probably sit on the bench . Yes I should have checked before booking but it really irks me . Back in the good old days all qualifiers were played midweek and the players then returned to their clubs and played on the Saturday.

I really hope this doesn't effect our momentum. I think it still better to play the game. With the original date we would have filled the away end - all tickets sold. Now, I expect many will not be able to go. We are on a run and the players can't wait for the next game - keep it going.

I bet Broadhead and Burns don't get hardly any minutes for Wales...but this could be a big game, just hope it is not postponed too long after to be rescheduled (certainly not at the back end of April or later).

More time for Norwood to go out getting sh#t faced....every cloud!!!

No easy outcome here tbh. We needed to keep our run and momentum going. That's now been disrupted. Whose to say we'll return after the break, on the front foot ( historically, we rarely do after international breaks). But on the other hand, we need to be at full strength when we play them to give ourselves every chance.

I'd say this postponement will actually give Plymouth a lift and a mental boost. Plus we are now faced with potentially having to play 2 games every week throughout the whole of April, and this at at the back end of a very long season. If we go up , we'll bloody well deserve it and have earned it!

It's a pity because Barnsley play Sheff Wed on the tuesday before while we have a clear week. That must have been an advantage for us.

It might be a nice gesture if the club gave some benefit to those fans who can show they genuinely lost out because of this. At the same time, from a footballing perspective this is a no-brainer of a decision as playing Barnsley when they're in top form with two or three of our key players missing makes no sense. You can tell from their fans' reactions that the intense fixture list is already worrying them.

Paulc added 21:23 - Mar 15
Putting the teams promotion chances ahead of fans who didn't buy flexible travel/hotel accommodation is absolutely the right thing to do. Sorry for those out of pocket but if we play a weakened side and lose and miss out on promotion, how would you feel then?

AlanG296 added 21:25 - Mar 15
Perhaps the club should put a warning message on the ticket buying website against any game that is scheduled for an international weekend and therefore could be subject to postponement. Wouldn't be necessary if we were no longer in this decision next season of course.

Cheers Phil. Useful to include the ticket refund detail.
