Schwartz Flies Over For Talks With Ashton and McKenna Friday, 24th May 2024 16:12 Majority shareholder Ed Schwartz has flown over to the UK to hold talks with CEO Mark Ashton and manager Kieran McKenna as the Blues seek to keep the Northern Irishman at Portman Road, TWTD understands.
Over the last few days, McKenna has emerged as a target of Brighton and Hove Albion, Manchester United and Chelsea with his representatives understood to have held talks with all three clubs.
But Town remain hopeful of keeping the man who has guided them to back-to-back promotions at Portman Road for their first Premier League campaign in 22 years.
We understand Schwartz, the CEO of ORG, the US investment firm which manages funds on behalf of the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS), the club’s majority owner, flew over from the States earlier this week especially for the talks with Ashton and McKenna.
Schwartz and Blues CEO Ashton were spotted together yesterday at the Salthouse Hotel - and pictured by a fan with those images passed on to TWTD - with the Blues trying to do everything they can to keep McKenna at Portman Road. We understand he is also set to speak to McKenna while in Ipswich.
A new more lucrative extended deal seems certain to be part of the discussions with McKenna already contracted to the club until the summer of 2027.

Unless there is a very big upgrade to the squad, l can’t see the McKenna footy we’ve seen thus far cutting it in the PL. We conceded 57 goals last. OK we scored 92, which brilliant of course. Logic suggests we will score less and concede more. If he stays it will be interesting to see how he approache the challenge.

Not sure the anology between a football managers job and his salary can be compared to the salaries in most other industries, we could only dream about such money, a hundred k a week will set you and your family up for life, twice that is only greedy! I dont think for a second his focus will be on wages, but then again who knows I thought he would have been excited about being in the premier with us, so much to learn so much to enjoy and I a free hit, staying would not damage his credibility at all. The disappointing thing for me is when asked at the awards about his future he spoke about Ipswich in 3rd person speak, he was then and still is now an employee of ITFC and should have said so! I find that all a little disrespectful, so not the McKenna we had grown to love! Going to Man U or Chelsea will only end in tears, the players didnt seem to like him before, you are talking different levels of ego at both clubs. The Brighton job should he take it will be a better fit but I will feel that he deserted us and for me, KM will always be a hall of famer but never the legend he could've become! I will never applaud him when he returns with teams, he left halfway through the job and that will always be my thoughts should he leave! Not sure how I feel about him staying, bit like your girlfriend considering leaving you because the other guy has more money no mortgage and a bigger stick, all while still saying that she loves you, not sure I would be trying to make her stay either! Please sort this soon!

Our manager need to take stock! I think only Manchester United are the only club he is interested in. But this club has to many hangers on KM has complete football control here and will be have to answer to a Director of Football at United, would the Silly man with the Bolly be watching his every move. Would Alex Ferguson try and give him to much advice? That's the problem. If we get relegated next season he will have his job still I believe, but if United under KM don't get in the top 6 he will go the way of many before him Sacked, not good at all. So stay with us Kieran we are a big friendly club and the fans love you!

Why is this being discussed as if McKenna can just pick a club and go there? As far as any of us know there is no offer on the table from anyone!

I very much doubt these talks are about McKenna so much as the infamous Plan B which Ashton, perhaps foolishly, said was already in place for when McKenna moves on. I doubt anybody could have foreseen he would have been quite so disloyal - albeit at a franchise where everyone is in it for the money, so it is difficult to be too critical. Having inflated the club’s value to a ridiculous degree and now seeing the prospect of instant relegation and a return to whence they came on the horizon the current situation amounts to financial disaster for the speculators who have presumably already cashed in on their orib]ginal punt with the mysterious new investors wondering if they have had the wool pulled over their eyes before they too could get their faces in the trough.

If KM goes I truly wish him all he best but I have a gut feeling that he could end up regretting it.

So let's put this into context, reporters say his reps talked to Man U, no proof this took place. Chelsea allegedly want him but no proof, Brighton have held talks with his reps, but no proof. McKenna is allegedly waiting on Man U because that is where he wants to go again no proof. He will turn down any new contract offered him, which seems to have been started by a Norwich supporting journalist!! McKenna said in his last interview I have seen is there is bound to be speculation but everybody is focused on preparing for next season, because he said "everybody", not "I" some fools are taking that as a hint he is leaving. Do we know Schwartz is not here on a planned visit? All this is speculation, paper-talk & clickbait. Supporters getting hot under the collar about rumours which have as much chance of being BS as being the truth.

So why doesn’t he just come out and say that he’s not going anywhere and will definitely be here next season? That would put an end to all the “speculation “

I think he’ll stay with Ipswich, but go to United in a season or 2 with a season or 2 premier league experience under his belt. I think he’ll meet with utd officials and a future plan will be made. This will stop him going to Brighton or Chelsea.

Why are they bothering with this, just after promotion MC was raving about this fantastic football club and looking forward to the new campaign, while doing this his " Representative" was having a chat with Man U and other clubs, what does this tell us about the loyalty of this man.

Could be worse... we could be Plymouth! At least we know we don't have Rooney set up as a replacement. They've taken a bullet for the game. Poor sods.

I believe that we will have an announcement by Tuesday confirming who our manager is. The owner is here to close it out. But, what do I actually know!

If Man u sack a manager after winning the FA Cup what incentive is there for a someone to take the helm? What would you have to do to keep your job? Surely job security is key right now and KM has a fabulous job here.
