Blues Linked With Dutch Defender Oosterwolde
Friday, 21st Jun 2024 13:37

Turkish reports are linking Town with Dutch left-back Jayden Oosterwolde, who is currently with Fenerbahce.

According to Sports Digitale, the Blues, West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Napoli are all keen on the 23-year-old. The Hammers have previously been linked with a fee of €20 million (£17 million) mentioned, while claims AFC Bournemouth have lodged a €30 million (£25.4 million) bid have been dismissed.

Zwolle-born Oosterwolde, who also plays at centre-half, started his senior career with FC Twente before moving on to Parma in Italy, initially on loan.

The 6ft 2in tall defender joined his current club in Türkiye, who are managed by Jose Mourinho, in January 2023, for €6 million (£5.1 million), signing a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Fenerbahce are said to be keen to hold onto Oosterwolde but would be willing to do a deal at the right price.

Town are almost certainly in the market for a left-back this summer with Leif Davis currently the only left-sided full-back at the club.

€20m seems a lot to spend on a back up left back

We only have enough money for so many 20+ million players and we really have to prioritize.

Would prefer to sign players with PL experience as we need to hit the ground running

Maybe the idea is to play Davies further forward.

Any further forward and he'd be in the stands!

Looks versatile - playing further forward in many of these clips. His pace would be an asset at CB where Edmundson is currently our quickest central defender. I love them both, but a partnership of Burgess and Woolfy appears too static for the Premier League.

I'm assuming that on some day early next week, when there has been no new speculation at all, a press conference will suddenly be called to announce the signings of 5 new top players, who will all be available to go on the pre-season tour & have 6 weeks to work out their role in a Kieran McKenna Premier League team.

Len Brennan, I don't think we will sign anybody until 1st July, after the profitability & sustainability accounts date for Championship is passed. If we spend money before that date it's included in those accounts and could lead to sanctions. Leicester would have been okay if they sold Addison to Spurs before that date as it would have been included in those accounts not the following year.

On another note Leif v Trippier in current England horror show... Davis is exactly what Southgate needs...

Grumpyoldman. The dste dorcthd profit and sustainability is 1st March, not 1st July. ( have just checked as i wasnt sure when it is). So will have no bearing on this transfer window.

Blues1. A date that looms on the horizon marks the end of English football’s financial year. Accounting periods typically run from July 1 to June 30 and the numbers that are posted matter.

Every club is allowed total losses of £105million over a rolling three-year period in the Premier League, adjusted for those clubs not in the division for all three years. Go north of that, as Everton (twice) and Nottingham Forest did, and there will be trouble.

It's a shame Southgate didn't take a fit left back to Germany. They must be in short supply. He needs someone capable of bombing down the left and making lots of assists. If only there was such a player...

International football is different to the Championship, however a good consistent run in the premier league could see Davi’s called up before Christmas….

Grumpyoldman. No. I suggest you read about the rules in sustainability. Clearly states that accounts have to be submitted by March 1st. The july to June ur talking is for the running of players contracts.

@BLUES1 I suggest you read up on it! grumpyoldman
Is correct the football financial year ends on 30th June and new year starts on 1st July!
So he is correct!

What your talking about is the cut off point when to hand over the details of the account(which involves the finances of their starting 1st July ending 30th june)

Not sure why some people are making an assumption that any players we are looking to bring in would be as a “ back up”. Our Defence especially needs upgrading.
