Philogene Personal Terms Agreed But Villa Still Keen
Tuesday, 9th Jul 2024 12:35

Hull City winger Jaden Philogene is reported to have agreed a five-year deal with the Blues with the move expected to go ahead but not yet 100 per cent with his former club Aston Villa now believed to be keen.

Town and the Tigers have agreed a joint deal for Philogene and centre-half Jacob Greaves understood to be worth, depending on reports, £35-£40 million plus add-ons.

According to The Athletic, £18 million of that sum covers the recruitment of Philogene, who has already agreed a five-year deal with the Blues.

However, while the move is expected to go through, they report that Philogene’s former club Aston Villa, who he left to join the Tigers for £5 million a year ago, have matching rights until Wednesday, which they are reported to be ready to activate having been linked earlier in the summer, although while accepting the matter will ultimately be decided by the player, who appears keen to join Town. Everton and Crystal Palace are also believed not to be entirely out of the race.

As reported earlier, last night’s claims that the 22-year-old has been pencilled in for a medical at Town are premature, however, assuming Villa’s interest comes to nothing, it seems likely that that will take place before the end of the week and both deals concluded from there. Greaves has already had his medical and a five-year deal has been agreed.

Earlier today, widespread reports claimed Everton had had a £16 million offer accepted for Philogene, however, that been dismissed by local Hull media with Town’s currently the only firm offer on the table.

This is the point of a matching deal, if activated the transfer can't complete until an agreed period.

Fingers extremely firmly.

I hope his agent gets the clap!

Would you really want to go back to a Club (Villa) that sold you because they didn't think you were good enough.

Hopefully he comes for the medical soon and Mckenna can calm the waters . Whatever anyone says, Mckenna will play him in every game in some form if fit. I doubt there will be any such guarantee with Villa.

If Philogene has agreed a deal with us and wants to come here, I don´t see what would be Villas point with a bid... Of course Philogene could change his mind, but that would be very unprofessional.

All seems a bit weird to me. Either you want him or you don't Villa. You couldn't make it up could you

If Philogene thinks he can get more money and Champions League football, I'm not sure that some Ipswich fans finding him unprofessional will deter him from accepting an offer, sadly. Personally I would find it disappointing, but not unprofessional. He has signed no contract with us, and if the reports on the contractual position are true, we cannot sign him during the period when Villa have the right to make Hull a matched offer. If that is true, the parties know that Ipswich's offer is just one offer and that there is another party with a right to make one. I don't see what's unprofessional about considering all of the offers which are on the table at the end of a known offer window.

Let's hope Villa's interest comes to nothing and he ends up a Town player. I thought he was such a good player last year that we wouldn't have had a chance, even before the Barcelona link, so Ashton and the boys seem to be doing a fine job. Fingers crossed.

I will say that at least Mckenna now understands how we felt with his own will he, won't he!!

Not being funny, but the lad needs to start pre-season training ASAP. It is his first in the Premier League and he needs to get up to speed on McKenna ball.

Checked when about to head off for lunch: Philogene to Everton
Checked during lunch hour: Philogene actually undecided
Checked when back from lunch: Philogene to Ipswich

Think I'll just stop checking.

Just let it sink in that we are now competing against the likes of Villa, Palace, and Everton for players of this calibre. Truly amazing the trajectory we are on.

I don't know anything about this lad other than what I have read since this saga began but I sincerely hope if he ends up at Town he's as good as everyone believes he is.

He (or his agent) sounds as decisive as Hassan Kachloul (the guy who said he was excited to ITFC then had a last-minute change of mind and went to Villa). And that went really well for the player... Perhaps Philogene should take that as a warning ;-)

victorysquad added 13:46 - Jul 9
The Lad needs 1st team football and needs coaching by the master. There are only 2 masters in the Premier League and Man City are not in for him.

BBC reporting he's off to Everton... which means he'll sign for someone other than Everton shortly!
