Liverpool Game a Sell-Out
Monday, 29th Jul 2024 18:09

Town’s opening-day game against Liverpool on Saturday 17th August is a sell-out, the club has confirmed.

Matchday seats went on sale this morning with demand very high with a queueing system put in place with some reporting they were number 6,000 in line.

With more than 20,000 season ticket holders, 3,000 seats given to the visitors and the summer work at Portman Road reducing the capacity, only around 5,000 matchday tickets will be available for most matches this season.

Any tickets returned to the club will be made available through the resale platform which was trialed at the end of last season.

Coincidentally, the Blues most recent Premier League opponents were also Liverpool, on the final day of the 2001/02 season at Anfield.

Basically we need a bigger ground, but this will not happen until 2029 realistically as building a better team will come first. Then the PL and UEFA need to change petty regulations to allow live matches to be broadcasted through various platforms when a sellout is confirmed. This would give our club additional funds.

I'm fortunate enough to be a regular ST holder but I do think people who have been to more than 1 home match last season should be rewarded better. Pls correct me if I'm wrong on this

I laugh at the comment of ‘we need a bigger ground’

Less than three seasons ago, I sat as the only one in an entire row, with thousands of other seats empty around me. I didn’t give up on my club, but so many did, now I’m reading social media comments from supposed fans saying that season tickets should be scrapped because it’s unfair to other fans!!!

Was always going to be a sell out. However think ITFC gave to rethink the selling of matchday tickets. The surely should be some priority for dans who have remained loyal over last few years over people who bought a membership yesterday ??? The ballot is pit luck and then the waiting room placed you in a “random” spot in the queue no matter how long you’ve held your membership. This can’t be fair. We have 2000 less matchday tickets this season (due to more away fans and reduced capacity for media) so come on town, look after the loyal fans a bit more than the glory hunters.

@Wool74 , while I agree with the aim of your post overall , less than 3 seasons is 2 seasons..and we have not had thousands of empty seats around any area of the ground in the last 2 seasons.
I also do not agree with those blathering on about season ticket holders ,most of these ticket holders sat through the MM years (and years before for many) watching for the last few years of his tenure watching dire turgid football , then Hurst as well , and for those complaining when they only want to cherry pick the odd 5 games or so..do one..is my honest answer !! you are reaping what you have sown,,in this case naff all!.

So I registered to get in the queue before 10am. I was placed at 2800 in the queue, waited for an hour and was met with the message of sold out and there was just some hospitality options available. Will try again for the next home game. Hopefully more luck second time round.

Any system the Club deploys will favour some over others...reality. What is also reality is what they have done seems pretty fair and in line with other Clubs. Whilst we filled the ground this past couple of years we had years before that where those of us that were there knew that the alleged attendances were lies and that the actual number atteding, esp in the latter days of MM, was much lower. So the reality is we do have a huge number of new 'fans' this season it seems and depsite beingf a long standing Season Ticket holder I am glad that the system deployed gives these 'new' fans a chance to get tickets too as well as rewarding loyalty....how else to we grow the fanbase ?!

There were thousands of season tkts available 3 or 4 years ago when I was standing up in Rochdale on a cold and bleak Tuesday evening, nobody was interested, I'm sorry but I'm sick of reading all the sob stories from people who can't go now, frankly it's your own fault.

I think the issue here is whatever the club does will be seen as unfair by some. I have been a member for several seasons now, including the leaner times. I’ve been unsuccessful in the ballot and was the queue at 4600 for an hour and a half this morning. I did eventually reach the end of the queue to find only wheelchair places available. It is what it is, and I’ll try again next time. Last season was even more difficult to get a ticket, so I feel this is an improvement, even though chances of success may not be great.

To save all the aggravaton, I think club could explain the reasons behind the ticketing decisions. Obviously they are clearly aware that today's scenario is going to be a piranha pit for every home game. You don't have to agree with the policy. However if it is clearly explained with reasons it can possibly reduce a lot of the negativity.

PR has been a “ sell out” for most games for the last two seasons, what’s new?

As a ST who sat through the Evans era I feel I should have my seat for my life.

Of course it's a sell out - inevitable.

For people who are saying "where are you when we were crap, I've been a fan through the good times and the bad.." blah blah blah.

Look - I agree, you're a diehard fan just as are many thousands of others. But remember: good, quality, exciting football (and the players this attracts) brings in new generations of fans. The club need to be prepared for this, as I'm sure they will try to be.

I love seeing the Town do well - but if I can't get a ticket (I can't), I see this as a sign of success for the club.

I have been following Town for 35 years. I had a season ticket from 1993 to 2000 (i had to move away for a Job when we last got promoted to the Prem) then came back in 2003 with an ST for the next 3 years. So i missed most of the Burley Prem years although i got to a few games home and away.

I've since been to between 2 and 6 games a season mostly away while travelling for work, I am a realist, I am resigned to not getting many if any tickets at all this season but I am not going to feel guilty if I do snag the odd one over someone who arrived the last 2 years and went to 10 games. I've done my time with Town and seen more crap than good. If i get to a game or 2 great if I don't.....well that's life.

Now can we please FFS stop moaning at every given opportunity, I know there are plenty out there champing at the bit to have a whine, they've been deprived for 2 years, We are where we all strived to be, that comes with challenges, let's just buckle up and enjoy the ride people!! COYB

To all these people that are moaning like hell that they cannot get a match day ticket . . . . .

do you want a ticket to watch Ipswich (because you didn't want one a few seasons ago}
or
is it because you want a ticket to see Liverpool, Man City. Arsenal, Spurs etc?

ITFCBlue94 added 08:24 - Jul 30
If you couldn't get a ticket to the game, venture into Ipswich, soak up the atmosphere and watch the game in a pub. Support local businesses!

I have no problem with the current scheme. I have been going to about 10 home games a season for the last 30 years. If 6000 were in the queue some of those would be after more than 1 seat via friends and family so let’s say 12,500 wanted tickets including those in last week’s ballot. 5,000 tickets were available therefore I have a 1 in 2.5 chance of getting a ticket. So if I am averagely lucky I will get 7-8 league tickets a year plus cup games plus the occasional away game. I actually think I will attend more league home games as not all games will be as popular as the first game of the season Vs Liverpool. So unless you attended so 13-17 league games a season last year you have no reason to be annoyed unless you think you should be entitled to attend more games in the premier league than lower leagues. Anyway I would rather attend 5 games in a McKenna season than have a season ticket for some of our previous seasons!

Have to agree with BlueWax, some of these supporters with tickets for the Liverpool game may have been to only one game. Look at the records of supporters who have attended 10 games last season and go from there. Season ticket holder for over 45 years and we deserve to watch Premiership football after all the crap we have watched over the years.
