Town and Burnley in Foster Talks Tuesday, 27th Aug 2024 22:35 Town are understood to be in advanced talks with Burnley regarding the loan signing of South African international striker Lyle Foster.
The Blues are looking to add another striker to their squad before Friday’s 11pm deadline with a loan move for Chelsea’s Armando Broja having come close to completion last week.
But the switch hit an obstacle when an achilles issue, which will keep the Albanian international sidelined for around seven weeks, became evident following his medical with discussions having continued since then. As reported earlier today, Broja has been back at Chelsea for scans as they assess the issue.
Now, according to Italian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Blues and Clarets are discussing the season-long loan of Foster, a deal which it’s claimed would include an obligation to buy for £25 million next summer, assuming Town stay up.
TWTD understands there is something in the interest as the Blues look for an alternative to Broja should that move be ruled out.
Soweto-born Foster started his career with the Orlando Pirates before moving to Europe and joining Monaco in 2019.
After a spell on loan in Belgium with Cercle Brugge, he joined Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães, before a return to Belgium and Westerlo initially on loan.
The 6ft 1in tall frontman joined Burnley for £11,000,000 in 2023 and has scored six goals in 33 starts and 11 sub appearances.

Seems odds to be buying players that cost half the price a year ago and that got relegated. I know it’s the nature of the beast but the sheer number of players we are buying is a concern especially when it’s not conclusive some of our players last year can’t be better fits for the premier league. However that said like all fans I have faith in McKenna and he clearly has faith in himself to get the team cohesion and spirit quickly to the same level with this new crop of players. Back in 2000 we didn’t sign a single player and finished 5th proving what spirit and momentum can do….buying a new team kills that momentum. Its only the next season when we signed so called better players it all wants t*ts up! Another thing….this obligation to buy seems a new trend and can surely be dangerous. Foster could have a terrible season and we could still stay up but then we still have to pay all that for him….seems strange.

Didn't he have mental health problems at Burnley which kept him sidelined for several months?

I have no problem trying to sign this guy, but I do have a problem with paying £25m for him - that is ridiculous and I worry for the club if it is true.
PimsNumber1 added 01:26 - Aug 28
How can we be paying 25m for this bloke when burnley paid 11m for him a year ago and he's done nothing thee !!!! We are just chucking money about now on anyone crap ....prefer morris or adebayo at Luton and their goalie over the useless burnley goalie muric

Really doesn't excite me for a nr 9, seems a lot more expensive than Denkey who is a little more prolific without other issues

Tampa florida blue on what basis do you prefer denky , i actually havnt heard of either, have you , but mckenna looks at statitics etc if he sees something in gfoster then thats good enoug for me , nketia would want so much money per week , how quickly some of you suddenly want the big boys as if money is nothing

Scraping the barrel and panic buying now if this is true, I don't believe it can be, the guy is pretty rank.

Well, if the current joke inflated prices bandied about in the PL is the now go to, “guide”, Town can expect to double their money on all the players they’ve purchased in this window, should we be relegated next season . Stay up, and I suspect that value for each player triples. The Premier League is NOTHING to do with football. It’s about trading players as assets to make money. Just look at what Chelsea’s get away with!

Do people really believe we are unprofessional enough to "panic" buy?? As with every aspect at Town these days it would be a considered approach. The only panic is among all the FIFA managers on here!!

Morgan Whittaker ?????!!!!!!! He is definitely a prem player and was top of Mk wish list. Surely will be at a Prem team by the end of the week?
Eeyore added 07:27 - Aug 28
I agree that Josh Sargent is an option. He might be in the Prem by the end if the week also

Don't know anything about him tbh, however to me it doesn't feel a good idea buying too many players from a relegated team! Could have many permutations, they wont want to experience it again and under KM they could become better players, they probably will be familiar with style of play thats going to be asked of them, who knows? I do think like Timmyh that the Broja deal will be very much on again, Chelsea will see this and may want to reconsider terms of the deal. I am not sure about all this being obliged to buy business, while it helps to keep spending down this season it just heaps it onto next season and for maybe a player who hasn't really worked out! Am I the only one who now wants the window closed?

We should be looking at Gimenez at Feyenoord, scored 27 goals last season and still only 23. I'd be very surprised if there's anything in it,regarding the South African bloke.

Steve_ITFC_Sweden added 08:09 - Aug 28
Sounds very unlikely to me. Wait and see who we actually sign. I don't think Ashton & McK are likely to make panic buys, although the situation is obviously pressurised as Friday approaches. Expect an announcement Friday evening, 30 mins before deadline!

Saxonblue: I think Bluemike makes a valid point re psnuc buying. This Burnley doesn't natch the spec of players we are targeting. So why us the Club in reportedly advanced talks with Burnley for thus player? Really??

No thanks. Stick with what we have and give Ali a crack now and then.

"Obligation to Buy" is a red flag for me.
jas0999 added 08:32 - Aug 28
We have been linked with some very good strikers this transfer window. To avoid relegation, we need to sign a goal scorer, a top striker. Foster is not in that category. His goal scoring record is poor. Sounds like we have failed to land the main targets and this would very much be a panic buy.

Here in Italy Tovalieri is not regarded as an authoritative source but a gossiper, so wouldn't place too much importance on his words...

Wishing, I think youre right. Both players we've been interested in having a mandatory " option" to buy ard cocked players! With the exception Moffat the Napoli midfielder
