Town's Broja Deal Off
Thursday, 29th Aug 2024 15:36

Town’s move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja is off.

Last week, the Blues and West Londoners agreed terms on a season-long loan which would become a £30 million permanent switch but an achilles issue emerged during the Albanian international’s medical.

Since then, the clubs have maintained a dialogue with a view to renegotiating the terms of the deal, while Chelsea carried out their own scan on the injury, which was expected to sideline the 22-year-old for around seven weeks, earlier this week.

Ultimately, however, the move has now broken down and, according to The Athletic, Broja could now join another club before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline - Everton have been strongly linked - but it seems more likely he will stay at Chelsea and rehabilitate his injury.

Town will now look elsewhere to add a striker to their squad before the window closes with a number of players having been linked in recent days.

However, while we understand there has been some interest, Burnley’s Lyle Foster is not close to the top of the list, while Cercle Brugge striker Kevin Denkey and Crystal Palace’s Odsonne Édouard are not believed to be being looked at.

We understand Town have a couple of candidates whose names have yet to emerge publicly and regarding whom they have made their interest known to their clubs.

A striker would be the Blues’ 13th and final addition of the window.

Ooh, a surprise signing as the window is closing. Who do we think?

None of the players in this article seem a step above Delap and Hurst so I'm pleased none are going to progress. Hopefully a more exciting number 9 than these guys will emerge

I stopped using the Forum because of the persistent unpleasantness. And when I wrote in Jan that for us, Hirst is irreplaceable, I got the usual down votes and unpleasantness. Well, here we are approaching Sep.

My overwhelming feeling is relief. I think Broja might have been good, but considering the injury risk I'm pleased it's off. I'm also quite happy that the names being leaked by disreputable sources are not serious links. As ever, it's the quiet business that gets done quickly and without much fanfare that will be the best. I trust that the names that are really at the top of our list are much better than the rumours.

Really pleased with this news, not just because of the injury but because of the £30 million buy clause, he is never worth that much and I don't like this emergence of these deals with loans followed by 'must buy at this price if you stay up'. There must be someone out there who fits the bill and can lead the line. Personally can't wait for Hirst to come back, think he is the business and will do well in the Prem.

With all these new players coming in I hope we don't lose our identity and team spirit, KM could learn from George Burley who in his first season in the Prem finished 5th with just a few additions. I think we have gone OTT with signings, there are some very good ones but I do wonder if some are better than we already have?

Little doubt MA and KM would have liked all done and dusted by now,but things do not always go your own way !
Equally there’ll have been a well planned and thoughtful exercise to identify exactly ITFC best needs and a list of candidates ; the nearing of the deadline will sharpen the decision making of potential sellers !
Let’s continue the faith !

Who else Chelsea got?

Surely we have enough players - if we get a 3rd CF then 1 isn't going to get much pitch time, and there are other players that can fill that role as well. In KM we trust but think that we may have bought 3 or 4 more than was required or good for squad morale

I would be happy if we got Morgan Whittaker (Burnley have reportedly made an approach for him).
Otherwise let’s hope we have an ace up our sleeve elsewhere

Good, if hes injured at the very time we need cover it makes no sense.
We clearly have the willingness to spend heavily to get the right player, so let's sit tight and wait and see.

Martial free transfer or Ellis Simms or I agree Whittaker or maybe Danny Ings or Callum Wilson or Shankland from Hearts

I'd be happy with Kevin Denkey so shame it seems he is not being considered. Whittaker is a great player but really in the Burns position not CF and now we have Ogbene I can't see that as a priority. (Would have preferred Whittaker)
I think we are ok to stick. We have Al Hamadi and Szmodics and while Hirst unfortunately seems unlucky with injuries, will be back in time. Of course an injury or suspension to Delap (the later looks likely!) and I will be eating my words.

I'm also relieved—it felt like we were helping those so-and-sos at Chelsea out!

Let's go with what we've got! Enough additions!

Agree we dodged a bullet, my sense is if the £30m did arise we would have been cock a hoop because it meant we stayed up! But the wise heads might just wonder if we could have spent the money more wisely!
