Clarke Own Goal Given to Wissa
Tuesday, 29th Oct 2024 11:47

The Premier League has announced that Brentford’s second goal during their 4-3 victory over the Blues at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday has been officially credited to Yoane Wissa and does not go down as a Harry Clarke own goal.

The Town full-back, who later conceded a penalty and was then subsequently red-carded, both debatable decisions, inadvertently bundled the ball over the line as he sought to clear with most sources initially putting it down as an own goal.

However, Brentford appealed and the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel reviewed the incident and awarded it to Wissa, taking his total to five for the season. An assist has been awarded to Mikkel Damsgaard.

Clarke, who was making his full Premier League debut, now no longer has the dubious honour of being the second player to score an own goal, concede a penalty and be sent off in the same Premier League game.

The 23-year-old will be suspended for Saturday’s home game against Leicester following the dismissal.

In similar news, the assist for Mbuemo's penalty has been given to VAR...

It was so obvious out of Clarkes control. & BecksBlue agree with VAR assist.

surely the red card has to be rescinded?

Wow...the Premier League have some actual common sense...for once

Quite right. No an own goal at all.

Now overturn the red card

Just get rid of the word 'assist'. It has no place in the game. The sport has become utterly embarrassing.

Still cross about a similarly ridiculous OG credited to Matt Holland.

Cost me 38th place in TFFL national table.

RE: Clarke's sending off

It was 2 x Yellow card, so no review possible.

Well that was obvious to me, and I was standing (quietly!) in the home end at the other end of the pitch!

Well they did say VAR would only get involved if unclear and let the ref made a decision…….not seen it yet
Look at the West Ham pen at Man U they ran in to each other and funny their legs connected….think VAR are trying to justify themselves

You can’t appeal a yellow and it was a second yellow that got him sent off so we have to live with it.

Mmm, to me it looked like Muric had actually saved it and it wasn't going in until Clarke slid it in.

So we’ve now had 2 nailed on penalties either totally ignored by VAR or denied by VAR. The first was at Man City where Davis was hauled down it the box by two of their players. Referee ignored it, but so did those in the VAR room. Strange that! Anyway, the most ludicrous decision was the penalty we should of had v Everton. The ref gave it, but good old dependable VAR overturned it. Apparently Clarke kicked the defenders leg. So let’s get this right, the defender puts his leg in a position whereby he impedes Clarke as he was about to strike the ball. Those in VAR seem to think it was Clarke’s fault for kicking the impeding leg. Not only are they blatant, but they also come up with utter garbage for their reasoning to overlook a nailed on penalty. You literally can not win with this type of officialdom.

RE: DavoIPB -

Only way that wasn't going in is if O'Shea (I think it was) had got to it and cleared it but couldn't because Harry was in the way

Having looked at the 'sending off' tackle many times from a few angles, there is absolutely no way that was a foul? HC clearly got his foot to the ball and it was out of shot before their player went over his leg. If that's going to be given as a foul, then football is finished as a competetive sport for anyone who loves a challenge.
Samy might as well take up tiddlywinks!

The little clubs never seam to get the decisions in there favour Gary O,Neil feels the same its a flawed system. Like others thought Clarke got to the ball first and the first coming together started outside the area continued into the area free kick on the edge correct decision. We need to appeal not be too nice.

I am almost sad that Harry’s full-house of disasters record has gone. He is going to become a top defender in the prem. very unlucky but at least he ticked the full Prem debut box.

Ive never liked the Premier league and it's biased officials who are obviously under orders from Sky not to give the smaller clubs any vital decisions and not involve VAR if it's going to influence the result. I might be in the minority but im really missing the excitement of last season and can't wait to see the back of this Sky circus.

Generally referees have unconscious bias, they favour the teams that are supposedly stronger and typically the top clubs will get decisions over the smaller teams. They actually don’t even realise they’re doing it, it’s an inbuilt psychological thing. Imagine Clarke not getting that penalty if he was a Man City player at the Ethihad! We all know that would never happen in a million years

Clarke brings alot of the problems onto himself. His positioning is appalling he got caight so many times in Championship with Morsey informing him often no surprise he got caught on premier debut he is not good enough for this league and as soon as Burns came on it exposed him even more. We were playing Brentford and his defending was poor. Cannot blame VAR for his short comings he is championship defender at best

The bottom line is we've conceded 10 goals in the last 3 games, defensively we're just not good enough.

As time goes on, its clearer and clearer that VAR is just a mechanism for the referees to try and ensure the "right" result. This has always gone on (eg "Fergie Time") but when the veil of the "heat of the moment subjectivity" isn't there, we can see the clear bias for the big clubs.
There isn't a clearer example that Coventry in the FA Cup semi final, the VAR referees desperately struggling to find a way to disallow the goal and deliver a lucrative Manchester Derby final to their paymasters. Even then, their justification was clearly wrong as their line had to be put on top of the players foot.

The refs are bent, the game is bent and as we can see, the smaller clubs are never going to be allowed to challenge the monied teams - the VAR system is just another tool to see to that.

I am going to start on the path to becoming a premier league referee, just so I can expose the time when I am bribed and coerced and bullied to lie !!! :-p

The past has already happened.

In the present, we're in a little difficulty.

Kieran has proved beyond beyond doubt that we never give up.

The future is yet to happen.

Let's concentrate on getting 3 points against Leicester and get us supporters back to the optimistic mood we've been in for the last 30 months.
