McKenna: Aro Knows He Could Have Dealt With It Better Friday, 1st Nov 2024 16:32 Town boss Kieran McKenna says keeper Aro Muric knows he could have dealt with Brentford’s 96th-minute fourth goal better, but that it shouldn’t be forgotten that the Kosovan international made important saves earlier on in the game and that he has his support.
Muric has come in for criticism regarding the goal, Bryan Mbeumo’s cross finding its way into the corner of the net to claim all three points for the Bees deep into injury time with the Blues looking like they’d grabbed a point via Liam Delap’s 86th-minute strike.
“In any goal it's easy to pick the last bit of it. We'll always look at the build-up to it as well,” McKenna said.
“We could have managed the clock a little bit better at that stage at 3-3 with time on the clock, so we could have managed the situation better as a team to avoid the situation.
“But on the other hand, with 10 men away from home, there's always a chance that the ball can come in a box and, of course, Aro knows that he could have dealt with it a little bit better.
“He's a really proud professional and holds himself to really high standards, so he would have liked to have done better on the goal.
“But we're not quick to forget that they had a couple of other chances, both at 11–v-11 and with 10 men, that he made good saves.
“And I think he's another player who's settling into the team. He’s had some really good moments, made some big saves and he's still settling into a new group, a new style of play and new teammates.
“We think he's a really good character and he cares deeply about doing well for the team, and cares deeply about doing well for the club.
“So he's got our support, of course, and like all the other players, he's tried to train well this week, pick himself up and be ready to help the team as much as possible.”

The weirdest part was his choice to throw the ball to the halfway line twice rather than launch it to the corner flags

Yes correct we could have managed the clock better at 3.3. Muric throwing the bloody ball to the Halfway line didn't help and that was in the build up to the goal. Less protection be blunt KM. It isn't good enough from him. He made a couple saves. As he should for £10 mill

Muric choosing to throw the ball to half-way looked odd at the time, but it was probably a better option as there was a decent chance Town could contest such a ball & win it, rather than simply kicking the ball back to Brentford. I would be interested if he did this off his own bat or it had been discussed with McKenna.

There were a few of us that questioned his signing at the start of the season and got slated for it here. That has proven to be correct as he is a liability. A goalkeeper is expected to make saves as it is what their position requires them to do. Yes he has a made a few decent saves, but he has also been at fault for a few goals already and we are not even a 1/3 of the way through the season. Poor signing and I am not sure who at the club thought he would be.

What an insult to Walton what about his good saves v Liverpool? He definitely deserves a run in the team at this point there's just no chemistry with Muric 1 good game v Brighton not good enough

^^FrimleyBlue But KM likes to protect his players, and motivate them rather than criticize too much in public. Seems to have worked very well in the last two and a half years.

He has to support him - he paid Mega Bucks for less than a Premiership Standard Keeper - hoping now he will come Good ! It could prove an even more costly mistake though, come May 2025 !!

Radlett it made no sense to throw to halfway. It leads to a 50 50 contest and as shown we lost the ball and they immediately attacked in our half. Had he kicked it long at least if the ball is lost its in the opponents half and you're organised and have majority of your players in front of the ball rather than what we had. Let's just hope he learns from it. That's all we can ask for

Carlo. Don't think really think we've had a player under KM who's tanked so much tbh.

…… under Prem’ pressure, the Back Four and Muric are like Rabbits in Headlights - no co-ordination at all. It has to be said, unfortunately.

Carlo88 what has McKenna had to moan about? Last two seasons were a dream, but now we are in a league where mistakes are punished. The best managers know when a mistake has been made and know when a player is affecting others around them and will take them out of the equation. We have already seen enough to know that Muric has already and will continue to cost us vital points. I’ll never forget the horror show that was Man City. Yes it’s Man City, but that doesn’t excuse positioning that is all over the show, indecisiveness on corners and dallying on the ball with poor passes. Just boot it up the field if you are not sure or at least play it wide so you have a chance at recovery

Sorry Kieran he has been a poor buy so far a couple of good games a lot of co*k ups some he has got away with far from convinced he will step up here is hoping.

Fans are being far to harsh on Muric! Made a couple of mistakes, but made far more top quality saves than mistakes.
Bert added 17:58 - Nov 1
Undoubtedy personal mistakes including indecision have cost us dearly at the back but let's not forget the injuries that we have in that department. Muric has to cut out the basic errors but any decent manager is going to support his players in lean times..... and so should we. A negative crowd on Saturday will serve no purpose as we fight to get more points on the board.

Premier league stats have Muric down for 5 errors leading to goals - that’s in 8 games. Those down voting - why? There is support, but you have to call it as it is.
blues1 added 18:26 - Nov 1
Reality 2021. No, hes made 3,errors,thst have led to goals. 2 v man city and this last 1. But he's also made 37 saves. The 4th most saves made in the pl. Should ignore pl stats. They also say we habe 10 injured players right now, which we dont(7).
RobsonWark added 18:26 - Nov 1
It's not just about that goal. It's the fact that he has been useless (that's a polite way of saying it) all season. BRING BACK WALTON.
SpiritOfJohn added 18:31 - Nov 1
Reality_2021, I'm guessing that you may be attracting down votes because you have written off one of our new players after only 8 games. You are entitled to your opinion, but why post the same opinion 3 times on one story. We heard you the first time.
RobsonWark added 18:33 - Nov 1
Fermi_Parradox what games have you been watching?
blues1 added 18:39 - Nov 1
Afcfee. Yes, walton played well against Liverpool. Bit like many , u seem to be forgetting his debut in lge1. 5 goals conceded, 3 of them down to his errors. Or the Fulham and Maidstone cup games last season. 5 goals conceded over the 2 games, 4 of them down to his errors. And did he get the dogs abuse muric has got so far? Let's forget then shall we, the 37 saves Muric has made, the 4th most in the pl? Only judge him on the errors. You dont think that not having a settled defence in front of him, hasn't helped him? Something any keeper will tell you is important to them. Especially when they haven't played with some of them before. Clearly, he needs to cut out the errors, or he'll have to be dropped. But he certainly deserves better than the dogs abuse hes got from some so called fans.

Spiritofjohn conversation through this is all. Enjoy a civil debate with people. Goalkeeper and striker really are the positions that you can’t wait for them to try and sort out errors unfortunately. You have to start and carry on, because they tend to have the consequences that determine games. Not posted the same thing three times and am just curious of people perceptions. I agree with some and not others - just like everyone else.
afcfee added 19:05 - Nov 1
Blue1 so you only judge Walton on his debut and 2 cup cameos? Seriously? What about the rest of the season we got promoted and scored 100 goals? Like I said he deserves a RUN of games which he hasn't had in over a year and never moaned clearly a good team player who would give the defence more confidence playing out imo
GavITFC added 19:19 - Nov 1
He’s obviously going to stay in the team so best thing we can do is get behind him and the rest of the team. I’m not convinced by him but in McKenna we trust!
ITFCSG added 19:45 - Nov 1
What do you expect McK to say, can't throw him under the bus right? For a £10 million signing he has been very poor so far, and is the main reason why our defence is shipping goals galore.
Suffolkboy added 20:15 - Nov 1
Just how important it is to empathise and encourage , whilst being ‘privately’ and justifiable critical ; but a ‘public’ demolition would be a human disaster and completely a against the grain of everything in in KM’s makeup ! We’ve a great coach and Manager who together with his team will resolve these issues; it’s part of what Management is about ! Lets believe !! coyb
