McKenna: No News on Philogene Sunday, 12th Jan 2025 18:18 Boss Kieran McKenna says there’s no news on the Blues’ stalled move for Aston Villa forward Jaden Philogene.
Town and Villa have agreed a £20 million-plus-add-ons fee for the 22-year-old and the player a four-and-a-half-year deal, with the England U21 international understood to have passed his medical on Thursday.
However, the move is still to be finalised and McKenna said there was nothing new to report after the 3-0 FA Cup victory over Bristol Rovers.
“I still think the same,” McKenna said when asked if the situation had moved on from where it was when he was questioned about it at Friday’s press conference.
“He’s an Aston Villa player, there’s no news, no agreement as far as I know. I’m sure I’ll get updated if anything changes but no updates any different at the moment.”
Despite the lack of movement, we understand the switch is still expected to go through.

My impression is that when someone makes a statement on a discussion forum, followed by “end of” it generally means they have offered no evidence or logic to their argument.

Glad to see we have many ITFC employees on here commenting, who I assume are all working on trying to get this deal done and knows all the ins and outs of what's going on. Makes me cringe when I see comments on here thinking this is Philogene's doing and has nothing to do with Villa or his agent. Strange how a lot of you believe the player has the final say on any of this and holds the power. Could be endless reasons, but if you think Philogene is sitting down with his agent telling him that he wants to mess around and delay this, maybe stick to FPL. Could even be on our side not accepting some terms which Villa has thrown in last second. We just don't know, but my gut is telling me the kid wants to come here and play. Which young prospect wouldn't want to come here and work with Kieran?

There are news articles on the internet that his agent is in dialogue with an Italian Club about Philogene. The longer this uncertainty goes on, the more I think it is not going to happen - seems so reminiscent of the first time we tried to sign him. There maybe legitimate reasons why it has not been confirmed yet, not least that we are on the weekend, but if it is not confirmed within the next couple of days it will seem increasingly that Philogene is not willing to commit. My gut feeling is that his agent is pulling all the strings here - thank Heavens for Mark Ashton who will protect the Club's interests.

There is the possibility we are in for someone else and are holding these irons in the fire....

Tell Villa to do one and let him rot in their reserves.

People blaming the player here but it has to be the agent. Both MA and KMc have said they won’t take a player who doesn’t want to come so clearly it’s his agent being a nobber again. I’d guess the club have given his agent a timescale or we’ll move on. I can’t see MA taking too much sh*t on anything. His agent really is screwing this kids future up.

Just remember everyone. It is the player and the player only who decides if and when he wants to go anywhere.

Frustrating I know but my gut feeling is that he'll be joining us over the next couple of days. If a fee has been agreed, terms agreed and player had a good conversation with McKenna I suspect it's more likely that the Agent is concluding terms with Aston Villa regarding his contract with them. I wonder if Hirst is now likely to be the back up number 9 whether Town will just concentrate on getting in Doak. It wouldn't surprise me!

All the usual muppets making outlandish statements about Philogene but have absolutely no knowledge of the actual cause of the delay or why the transfer has stalled. Looks like the poor kid is being messed around by his agent, Villa or maybe even us. Seems he's already being lined up as the next victim for the small minded few who pick on certain players relentlessly. We don't know the situation, as usual MA will only make an announcement when he has something concrete to say.

Situation we are in in this league it's not just about signing players with the necessary ability but they must have strong character, be up for the fight, be able to bounce back from losses, know you're the underdog. In this league the odds are against us more often than not and will be next season if we're still here. Does this one have strong character?

The modern day David Nugent?! We know nothing about the situation. Perhaps the club have reservations? Perhaps his medical threw up something. To assume makes an ass of u and me.

I think he will sign, he only had medical Thursday, wouldn't be nice if he has signed, or is about too, maybe let's just wait and see and if he signs and is wearing the shirt welcome him and if he doesn't move on, obviously the club want him, he has wanted to play for us, he had friends here, I feel maybe we are being a bit impatient. He would be a great signing so let's see what the week brings. What's thoughts on Matic?
