Town Closing in On Enciso Loan Tuesday, 21st Jan 2025 18:46 Town are closing in on the loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Paraguayan international forward Julio Enciso.
The 20-year-old was first mentioned as a target of the Blues and Leicester by media in his home country last week when TWTD confirmed he had been a player Town had eyed in the previous couple of windows but at that stage without making an approach.
However, the situation appears to have moved on since then with Paraguayan journalist Christian Pérez reporting that Enciso, who was on the Seagulls’ bench at Portman Road last Thursday without making it onto the field, is on his way to Town to complete a loan switch and could be in the squad for Saturday’s game at Liverpool. We understand that this is the case with a medical set for Wednesday.
Enciso, who is 5ft 8in tall, joined Brighton from Club Libertad in his home country for £9 million in 2022.
Speaking about speculation that Enciso might be sent on loan in his press conference ahead of the Town game, manager Fabian Hurzeler said: “There are arguments for and against. But the most important is that he knows our arguments, that we know his arguments, that he's giving everything for the club, because in the end, he always says that he really likes to play for Brighton and that's why I think he already showed it this season so far.
“When he was on the pitch, then he had good performances, he proved it last Saturday against Norwich [in which he scored]. So in the end, we are really happy to have him here in the squad.
“We always have to negotiate what is the best for the individual development from the player. What is helpful at the moment? Is it like playing every game or is it training with the highest quality and not playing every game?
“So that’s always a thing where we have to exchange with the player, where we have to negotiate what is the most helpful for the club, what is the most helpful for the player and then I'm sure that we will make the right decision.”
Enciso, who has been capped 23 times by Paraguay, scoring twice, is contracted until the summer of 2026 with Brighton not looking to sell him.
The Blues have been after three attacking players in this window, forwards Enciso and Jaden Philogene, who joined from Aston Villa last week, and a number nine, who they now have just under a fortnight to recruit before the Monday 3rd February deadline.
As he is 20, Enciso, who will become the club’s first ever Paraguayan international, doesn’t count towards the Blues’ 25-man Premier League squad, which has to be resubmitted shortly after the window closes.
The signing almost certainly ends Town’s pursuit of Liverpool’s Ben Doak, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough. The Blues made a £16 million offer for the 19-year-old close to the beginning of the window, which was rebuffed.
Town and the Seagulls did January loan business last year, Jeremy Sarmiento coming in and playing a big part in the Blues’ promotion to the Premier League.

Like the sound of this and someone that stood out at times last season with some great goals. Comments about training vs playing could be read with concern but I’m sure KM has it all covered

This would be a great signing, right type of player. Edmondson recalled from Boro so is Woofeden going? That would make sense.

Good. Young player, fit hungry and athletic. Get him in, stay in the division and then we work out if it's right to try to buy him This is another good one

Was this the guy that Mick Mills raved about? If so sounds like it would be a good signing. Brighton clearly have a very good scouting system and Sarmiento was certainly a good loan last season.

Usefully, having already played Brighton twice, he would be available for every remaining match.

Julio looks good on You Tube. Has typical Latin moves. If LD gets suspended in the next month we will have decent subs .

Broadband absolutely nothing like Delap not a centre forward in any way. The centre forward is still to come .

Exactly the type of player we need, an energetic middle of the park type player that knows where the goal is. Great bit of business

It's a shame we didn't use the Bristol City game as a farewell game to the League One and Championship heroes who haven't made the step up, Morsy, Luongo, Burns, H Clarke, Woolfeden all soon to be gone but not forgotten. And applaud Burgess, Davis, Broadhead, Walton for making the step up, hopefully we just loan Woolfeden and H Clarke as they will excel still in future and if we do go down they will both be great in Championship, loam do them good. I'd sell burns Chaplin h Clarke edmundson and release luongo morsy id keep but we need to find a better younger replacement as he's pasted it or just ain't good enough for premiership woolfenden I'd send on loan but the one player I'm not over keen on is ben Johnson I think he's shocking we need better than him I can't see why west ham wanted to keep him I wish they had now

Cressi. Why do we need a LD type player as a sub. Julio can score goals. Especially against those up the road.

Not excited about this. We need players that can be counted on to make a difference and I am not sure that is the case here. He hasn’t been playing even when Welbeck has been injured.

We are crying out for someone with a bit of muscle who won’t get pushed off the ball easily . Omari Clarke and this guy who are all exciting players is all well and good but might get knocked off the ball by a sneeze….think we need someone with a bit of height and muscle coming in soon in midfield and attacking options.

Hhmmm not sure it's the right sort of player we need currently and not exactly prolific...I personally feel we need a more physical player upfront whom can hold the ball up and create, more of a No10 behind Delap.

As we all are armchair managers, initial thoughts not blown away… however I said the exact same thing when Liam Delap was rumoured. I’m glad I’m not in charge of recruitment. I would welcome any forward with premier league experience.

Feels like there’s not a huge amount to lose with this one. He doesn’t count towards a squad place as he’s under 21, I doubt he’s on a huge wage and it’s just a loan until the end of the season. Hopefully he can find a bit of the form he had before he got that long term injury. Bit of a chaotic player and drifts in and out of games, but certainly has talent and can make things happen. Personally I’m not necessarily blown away with him coming in, but it gives McKenna more attacking options which we’ve been lacking.
