Burgess Wins Cap as Australia Victorious in China
Tuesday, 25th Mar 2025 13:04

Blues centre-half Cameron Burgess won his 15th full Australia cap as the Socceroos beat China 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Hangzou this morning.

The 29-year-old played the full 90 minutes as his side maintained second place in their group and kept on track for qualification for the finals without the necessity of going into the fourth stage of qualifying.

Later today, Nathan Broadhead and Julio Enciso are among a number of other Town players who could add to their caps.

Broadhead, an unused sub with Wales as they beat Kazakhstan in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday, will hope to win his 14th full cap and add to his two international goals when Wales face North Macedonia in Skopje in another World Cup qualifier this evening (BBC Three, BBC One Wales, BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer, KO 7.45pm).

Enciso and Paraguay take on Colombia away in Barranquilla in a World Cup qualifier (KO midnight UK time).

The 21-year-old, who is on loan from Brighton, became the first player to represent the Paraguayans when he was in the side which beat Chile 1-0 in the early hours of Friday.

Paraguay are fifth in the qualification group with the top six securing a place in the finals and the seventh going into a play-off.

Elsewhere, 19-year-old forward Rio Morgan will be hoping to win his third Northern Ireland U21s cap when his side take on Uzbekistan U21s in their final game at a friendly tournament in Turkey (KO 5pm).

Morgan bagged the winning goal from the penalty spot on his debut against Moldova in the opening fixture, then came on as a sub as the Northern Irish youngsters were beaten by Ukraine’s U20s on Saturday.

Right-back Daniel Babb is with the Republic of Ireland U19s for their European Championships elite round qualifiers in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Babb, a regular in John McGreal’s Town U21s side, has been an unused sub in both their games so far - a 3-0 defeat to Finland and a 1-1 draw with Slovenia - but will hope to win his second U19s cap when they take on the hosts this afternoon (KO 2pm).

Do you all remember when we did not have any internationals.
Let alone 3 scorers for England, blokes playing for Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Aussies, Paraguay and Cosovo.
Pinch me. I'm dreaming.

I should have added. Good for them.
We are all proud.

I do indeed flykickingbygunn, and because I'm old enough (easily!) I also remember another time when we had plenty, almost the whole team! This time round It shows how far we've come in a very short space of time. Though I expect many will pass judgement very negatively if as looks likely, we'll be heading back to the Championship.

I won't be so negative, believing the squad has been built built with one eye on the possibility, and for the longer term, not just now. However it is of course, a game of opinions!

I just had a look at fixtures and ourselves and Leicester are very much still in the chance for survival with 9 games to go, like us Leicester play Wolves and could do us a favour by beating them, Wolves have West Ham next and we have Bournemouth but they play Man City in the late game on the Sunday so only 2 days recovery, we will of had a week, hopefully their games goes to extra time, any advantage be good, on paper If we beat Wolves after the 3 likely losses we then have games where we no we can compete in including Leicester meanwhile Wolves have some very tough games aside Southampton. It really could go down to the last day or be just a point in it. The Wolves game at home is most definately our cup final game.

I do think we have bought the best we could get to stabal8se in Championship with an eye on relegation and am not worried about going down, Mckenna would of been sacked by now otherwise but I also think we have enough talent to stay up if we can get boring draws and some scrappy wins and wins vs Wolves, Leicester, Everton, a couple draws and beat West Ham at home last day.
Got to believe, I think the line up vs Bournemouth will tell us everything of how our season will end.
Can someone tell me why I get marked down for saying I think Townsend should be in for Davis based on goal leaks, big gaps and why Muric should go back in based on the majority of points were with him in goal and that we have 0 points with Palmer and only 4 with Walton. Muric was outstanding vs Iceland and we need a shot stopper but I do like Palmer also and think if Townsend was playing we wouldn't conceded half as many but I'm just interested who people would like to see play as starting 11 for next 9 games without our current injuries, aside Tunazabe who I think it's been said will be fit.
My starting line up
Muric or Palmer
Tunazabe
O'Shea
Burgess
Townsend
Cajuste
Phillips
Broadhead
Hutchinson
J Clarke
Delap
I think we always struggle or concede when subs come on so I think we be better having Enciso and Phillogene coming on as impact players and the obligatory Hirst for Delap but if we take the lead I'd love to take off Hutchinson and J Clarke and Broadhead and go 4-4-2 with Phillogene, Davis and Hirst coming on with Davis in front of Townsend that would give us freedom to get down wings and ping crosses in but also baffle opposition. Only my opinion I'd love see others thoughts on line-ups.
One thing for sure we should all get behind whatever 11 Mckenna picks and go for it now, it will be what it is but for certain if we stay up we will grow but if relegated I do think we are in 100x better condition to get promotion again than other teams in Championship. Hopefully City go down as they should.

@TimmyH Hi Timothy, Reminded me of Ronnie Corbett in Sorry, not a name hear to often.
Firstly I didn't mean to put in this thread apologies, but no need to be rude or sarcastic, you don't have to read it.
Was just opening a debate asking what thoughts on line up for last games
