Forest Eyeing Davis Thursday, 22nd May 2025 11:56 TWTD understands Nottingham Forest are again keeping tabs on Blues left-back Leif Davis.
As previously reported, Forest, who go into Sunday’s final Premier League game of the season chasing a Champions League spot, showed strong interest in the 25-year-old in January 2024.
Davis, one of Town’s star performers in the League One and Championship promotion campaigns, signed a new Blues contract which runs to the summer of 2028 in October and is very much part of Kieran McKenna’s plans for next season and beyond.
If Forest or any other club - Newcastle and West Ham were also linked prior to the Blues’ promotion - were to firm up their interest then Town would be looking for a very significant fee for the full-back, who was signed from Leeds United for £1.1 million in the summer of 2022.
Newcastle-born Davis, who returned from a three-match ban at Leicester on Sunday, has made 120 starts and two sub appearances for Town, scoring six goals and recording 38 assists.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in last night’s Europa League final is likely to have dealt a significant blow to their hopes of signing Town striker Liam Delap this summer.
The Red Devils will now not be able to offer Champions League football next season, which the other leading contenders Chelsea and Newcastle United will hope to confirm on Sunday.
Delap, 22, is understood to have been given permission to speak to all three clubs over the last week or so with all parties keen to get a deal done quickly.

whilst LD will be very useful next season here. money talks and if we can turn a £20m plus profit and the player wants to move, take the money. We will lose Liam, and with the MF area emptying out with two loanees leaving and Sam about to turn 34, £50m+ to spend as a championship club is a huge amount. I truly. don't expect the release clauses (which generally appear to be twice the value of our initial fee for both Delap and Hutchinson at £30 & £35m respectively) to be met for anybody else on the assumption they are set at double the money too. If someone comes in for Omari at £35m we would be forced to take it, but again, that would just add to our spending power. We've had Leif for a long period and FFP "profit" on him would help immensely

A year ago we were talking about Davis as as a 30 million £ + player, a year in the Prem has shown he is nothing of the sort. Personally I hope he & various others stay & try to get another promotion but we do seriously need to bring in many new faces & I can't see where the "home grown " players are. Every other Prem team has a squad made up of mainly overseas players, Liverpool for example have often played with a team of completely overseas players. Unfortunately this is how the game is now.

Leif was massive for us in the back to back promotions with his creative play, crosses and assists. He struggled with the step up to the Prem, but so did almost every Town player including the big money signings. Leif has admitted he lost confidence this season, not just due to the problems on the field it seems, so I for one want him to stay and get back to his best as he could be massive again for us next season. I thought he was one of our better players against Leicester last weekend. I like Townsend a lot and the two of them would ensure we have great cover and competition for that position which is important.

Simple solution, let those who want to go, go. We don't need anyone here who isn't 100% commited to ITFC. We'll take the money and I trust, use it very wisely. Complete midfield rebuild, at least one quality striker, and depending on who deserts the sinking ship, probably 2/3 others. Please get all the business done early Mr A, no scrabbling around at the last minute in desperation. All in's and outs completed before any pre season friendlies. Including any none playing staff, such as there may be! No excuses for not having a fully effective data programme up and running by now, so look to Europe and beyond, South America in particular. Going to be and interesting time everyone!

WHY?? He clearly wasn't good enough for the premier League.

If he leaves some on here won't have anything to write about slagging him off week after week such is their lack of maturity and intelligence. Players can be at a club too long and can be taken for granted by fans and considering the relatively small fee we paid for him he's been a great servant to the club and gives one hundred percent when called upon. If he does leave i wish him the best of luck.

If he wants to go and we get £10M+ (a guess based on what we paid for the very average Philogene and Clark which was twice as much) then adios! We all knew that his defensive skills are lacking but some of that could be attributed to McK's tactics so a tad bewildered why Forest are interested.

We all know that by playing Davis higher up the pitch we left a gap at the back when he could not track back. He ran more miles than any other player in a position that is difficult to fulfill. Solve that conundrum and we still have a quality player capable of many assists and a few goals. Don’t blame Davis.

I think in his recent interviews, Leif sounds keen to stay and perhaps accepts and appreciates he's not performed at his best and perhaps is not quite ready for the Premier League. I don't think he'll go anywhere unless his hone town club Newcastle come in for him

I think he'll stay. He's already spoken about his low confidence levels this term, and how he thought he could have used another season in the Championship to better prepare him for the Premier league. I think he'll stay for a confidence-boosting promotion season with us.

A wand of a left foot, a sensational athlete, great professional and his ability to put a shift in and stay fit for 50 games a season too, great young player still, and deserves all the plaudits in the EFL. He never has been able to defend though. It’s why Leeds let him go; he played a lot pre season before we signed him for Leeds. Bielsa is a wonderful coach. He really struggles to get goal side, even when he’s deep in a 4, I’d be shocked, because it’s such a basic requirement, at any level. The thing I love about football though, is a managers ability to see an obvious massive flaw in a player, one that really talented coaches haven’t improved, over many years, and which is so fundamental, it massively limits a players ceiling….., and then buy him anyway, for often big money, because ‘I’ll coach him to be a truly elite player’. I love him to bits, he’s our Geordie Roberto Carlos.., but he really is poor positionally and gets wrong side in key moments three or four times a game, at this level. I’d imagine if there’s a big offer, because he cost so little, he’s effectively a home grown player, and we need the revenue. We have £20 million plus liabilities for 2/3 seasons after our parachute revenue, if we don’t go up, so financially it would make a huge amount of sense. Our £150 million over 4/5 years will be consequenced if we don’t come back up, and it won’t be pretty.

I'd be very disappointed to see him leave. Proven at top championship level, a huge asset next season. This position is not an easy one to fill, England national team have struggled with it for some time. Yes, we'd get a decent price for him but would find him difficult and expensive to replace.
