Luton Eyeing Al-Hamadi
Tuesday, 15th Jul 2025 13:07

TWTD understands League One Luton Town are eyeing Blues striker Ali Al-Hamadi.

The Iraq international ended last season on loan at Stoke City and it would be little surprise if he moved on this summer, either on the same basis or permanently.

We understand the Hatters are considering a move for the 23-year-old with manager Matt Bloomfield having previously worked with him at Wycombe Wanderers.

If he were to leave Town, Al-Hamadi would presumably prefer a move to the Championship, however, Luton, a Premier League club only 14 months ago, look well set to stage a title challenge during 2025/26.

Town would only consider Al-Hamadi departing should they add to their striking ranks with George Hirst currently their only number nine following the £30 million departure of Liam Delap to Chelsea.

The Blues are likely to want three out-and-out strikers with Chelsea youngster Marc Guiu a target, although with the player believed to be hesitant regarding a move to the Championship.

US international Patrick Agyemang was also on Town’s radar but is closing in on an $8 million (£6 million) plus $2 million (£1.5 million) in add-ons switch to Derby County.

Al-Hamadi has made three starts and 24 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals, since signing from AFC Wimbledon for around £1 million in January 2024, signing a deal which runs to the summer of 2028.

While at Stoke in the second half of last season, the Liverpool-raised frontman made 11 starts and four sub appearances, scoring twice.

him, Morsy and Muric really struggled last season. We're gearing up for bigger things and he seems unlikely to be the future.

Think this would be a good move for Ali and ITFC. Hope we can get Ivanovic from Millwall as a replacement.

I think he still needs to develop and would not be surprised if he goes out on loan to L1 and of course Luton.

I’m concerned we haven’t signed another striker yet. If Hirst gets injured again we are in trouble.

Don’t see Al-Hamadi getting many starts so probably best he goes out on loan. Hopefully MA is trying to sign another striker as a priority?

Probably best for all parties if he moved on...

Not being unkind, but I think league 1 is his level at present.

Well it is really all starting to happen. No way this news, Morsy New, Hackney News etc would be put into the public domain unless it was happening. EADT & TWTD generally dont chuck stuff about without it either being real or quoting their source elsewhere.
Thought this would be a busy week

Good move for him, he isn't up to the standard that we are looking to achieve, so no point loading him out or sitting on the bench. He will get game time in League one, not so sure in the Championship.

How quickly people forget what a coup it was to get him in at the time. Yes the Club has put paced his talent, but given time am sure there is a player there....but accept that will only happen elsewhere.

I think some of the comments about him on here are a bit unfair. He was playing through injury pain when we signed him from Wimbledon, and it was quite a step up from League 2 to top of the Championship. Then he had some further few mins in the PL as a late sub for Delap. He was again injured during his loan spell at Stoke last season, but their fans did seem to like him. I hope we keep him next season as we'll need 3 centre forwards, especially as Hirst has been rather injury prone too.

I must be honest and say I haven't yet worked out why we signed him in the first place.
Not sure I've seen him make any intelligent forward runs, he does seem to run around a lot, usually whoever the ball isn't, and he always appears to be struggling for breath, looking leggy at best, even when only just having come onto the pitch.
So for me he hasn't ever looked fit enough to play at championship level, hasn't a strong left or right foot (most of his efforts are scuffs, certainly not achieving clean contact with the ball), he doesn't really head the ball anywhere intentionally and that penalty, OMG, dreadful!
There are no redeeming features for me, I do feel we should move him on. Please.

Well at least he will be famous in sports quizzes.

He joined as we were on the ascendancy so it's hardly surprising he struggled to get in the team when we jumped up two divisions from his joining.

I’m hoping it a loan with a recall at the winter window if we need him back. He needs regular game time to sharpen his skills. I don’t want him gone, he is one for the future

really not clever with the “drive him there” stuff

He will surely move on. We of course, need two excellent strikers. Hirst is great … when he plays which is sadly not enough.

Has shown glimpses of ability but looks like one of those players who might be unlucky with injuries.

I've often wondered what would happen if the player, that people said "I'll drive him there myself!". Actually turned up on their doorstep with the bags and their boots? Would they follow through on it and have really awkward silence the whole journey? What if the player signed for Aberdeen?

Personally dont think he's awful as everyone seems to think . He's young needs game time and has lots of time to grow. We unfortunately are a club now who dont have much patience for players who may have potential.

He would of been a player in mick era that would get game time and maybe of improved with us. But we dont have time for that now . We need results now from players

Don’t get the need to be so insulting about AAH - he may have struggled at the top level, but always gave 100% and always ran his socks off. Which is certainly more than can be said for many Evan’s era signings.

It would´nt be the end of the world in my honest opinion, though we would lead at least two strikers coming in. I know the boss like sonly one up front but we would be very short if he goes and is not replaced.
