Town to Sign Norwich Midfielder Nunez Wednesday, 27th Aug 2025 21:07 Town are set to sign Norwich City midfielder Marcelino Nunez in a £10 million deal.
The Chilean is understood to be in Ipswich to complete the formalities on the switch for £7.5 million up front plus a further £2.5 million in add-ons.
The 25-year-old, who currently has a minor ankle problem, joined the Canaries from Universidad Catolica in the summer of 2022 and has gone on to make 86 starts and 33 sub appearances, scoring 12 goals, including the free-kick which won the East Anglian derby for Norwich at Carrow Road in 2023/24.
Nunez, who has been capped 30 times by his country, scoring three goals, has a year left on his contract and has turned down new terms on two occasions.
Norwich are reported to be signing Silkeborg’s Pelle Mattsson for £2.7 million as his replacement.
Town have been looking to add to their central midfield options this summer with skipper Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo and loanee Kalvin Phillips having departed over the summer.
The last player to make the move from Carrow Road to Portman Road on a permanent basis was keeper Andy Marshall in the summer of 2001, while other players have represented both clubs since then on a full-time or loan basis over the course of their careers, including David Wright, David Healy, Alan Lee, Matthew Bates, Kevin Lisbie and Brandon Williams.
Among those who represented both clubs on a permanent basis prior to that were Clive Woods, Trevor Putney, John Deehan, Louie Donowa, Clive Baker, Johnny Miller and Keith Bertschin.
Off the field, former Norwich striker Joe Royle managed the Blues, Paul Lambert both sides, while current Canaries boss Liam Manning, his assistant Chris Hogg and first-team coach/analyst James Krause are all former Town academy players and staff.

Better than Taylor but again… paying a lot of money for solid/average Championship players.

Love the fact we’re taking on of their best players and think it could prove to be a great move, but our recruitment is erratic at best and has no clear plan. Wonder if MA reportedly being investigated internally for naughtiness has disrupted the summer.

Churchmans. Really? We just sold broadhead for exactly the same amount, with 1 year left in his contract?

These have never gon well, Marshall, Crook, Deehan got a pass. I know , I know, he’s just a transient player with no knowledge or interest in rivalry, but it just doesn’t sit well, which means if he doesn’t score a hatrick on his debut he’ll get stick!

He's got his work cut out to win over Town fans. Andy Marshall did his best, but wasn't the greatest 'keeper tbh. Didn't go much better for John Deehan. I still remember hearing people shouting, in their best Suffolk accent: JOHN DEEHAN IS A HAS BEEYUN!

chepstowblue, absolutely. Assuming it all gets signed, sealed and delivered, I personally don't give a toss if he turns up to Portman Road every day singing " On the ball City " and carrying a copy of a Delia Smith recipe book under his arm, as long as he does his stuff every time he pulls on an ITFC shirt.

Agree with BlueSpeed. North stand destroyed Andy Marshall for weeks after only a couple of mistakes. Was never the same again. Some need to Grow up! Give the bloke a chance. If he’s crap. It’s because he’s crap, not because he wore a yellow shirt
