Morsy Leaves Kuwait SC
Tuesday, 23rd Sep 2025 09:38

Former Blues skipper Sam Morsy is reported to have left his new club Kuwait SC by mutual consent only two months after making his move to the Kuwaiti Premier League champions from Town.

According to Qatari-based Alkass Sports, the player and club have agreed to terminate the 34-year-old’s highly lucrative two-year contract and Kuwait SC are now looking to sign another foreign player to strengthen their midfield.

Morsy, who had been captaining the side, was sent off after 30 minutes of Sunday’s 1-1 draw away to Al-Arabi, only the third game of the Kuwait season.

The Egyptian international was allowed to leave Portman Road on a free transfer in the summer despite having a year left on his contract following a highly successful four seasons at the club during which time he led the team to back-to-back promotions and into the Premier League.

Morsy won’t be able to join another club until the transfer window opens in January.

Blues 1: Counago, Alan Lee, Chris Swailes, Harry Clarke, Richard Wright amongst others all came back and did at least okay. George Burley came back as manager and did well as you may recall? But don't let reality get in the way of one of your tedious reactive, Hindsight Harry rants.

Feel sad for him, a great player for us. But as blues1 says, what would be the point of bringing him back now? (if It's not for the management side of things).

Everything we lack - desire, leadership, will to win at any cost to himself, the highest standards and expectations of himself and others.

Makes everyone 5% better.

Sadly, the time January comes it probably won’t add any value unless we get injuries in that area.

Impossible to know if he’d make a great coach, but I’d bring him in just for the motivational side, he has the mentality that can be infectious.

FAR more pivotal along with Mass, Chaplin, Burgess etc to 23/24 then he ever got credit for (off the pitch).

Dragged this club to success - I’d pay him just to kick shins and take names.., he’s got the traits missing in McKenna .., the stick as well as the carrot. He completed us.

I don’t think Philogene would be pulling out of quite so many tackles!

Time to become a coach and raise our youth.

McKenna needs to sort out the players he has at his disposal Now. We have been poor for nearly ten months. When was the last time two league wins on the bounce or a 3pm Saturday home win.
Morsy how much hid loved coming back would be admitting to the muddle we are in.

This is very disappointing news for Adam and his family. Not sure what went wrong, but not a good situation. Best of luck to him. Clearly, we won’t sign him as don’t have space in the squad. Agree we should let him train with us until January though!

I wonder if that is why McKenna said he spoke to him the other day.

It’s been mentioned earlier by jazzback and I too think it would be good to let him train at Town for a while.
I think his playing days are rightly over with us but maybe a coaching role could be found?
Depends on whether he wants to continue playing or not.

Lightning boy. All those players, wanted to leave. U dont keep players who dont want to be here. And we didnt just let them go. They were all offered new deals, bar Chaplin who still has time on his, contract, and has only gone on loan. A loan he instigated. No point Morsy coming back, he wouldnt get in the team ahead of Matusiwa, Cajuste and Nunez. He cant sign for anyone until January anyway.

Despite believing we could utilise him as a boost if he came to train with us - I also think it would probably upset and undermine the squad mentality - especially the likes of O'Shea, whom I'm sure wouldn't want the ex captain to be the commanding voice - even just within training sessions.

If there's potential for a coaching role up for grabs - then I'd say welcome back, but that'll be down to Mckenna to decide - IF that's something Morsy would even want to consider. He's probably keen to keep on playing!

Blues1 why would he need to be in the team to add value? It’s his traits we need, off the pitch more than on it. Why did we sign 40 year old Young? Why did we retain Aluko to never play?

The leadership qualities off the pitch are as or more essential than quality on it.

You can get out of this league with less quality but a sheer desire and will to win and togetherness, we should know that!!

Also, why did SO many players want to leave?

We have the best coach in the world; we pay very well, we’re on a journey and progressing massively!!

Ah. There’s an elephant in your room isn’t there!!

The people closer to it than you and I or any supporter, they’ve spoken, loud and CLEAR.

With there feet. It’s time to start listening to them.

You know less than zero about where 23/24 dynamics were, the same as me and all ‘experts’ these players loved it.., day in .., day out.

They all see this project as having run its course, and lost faith.., some have stayed at Middlesbrough or signed for Swansea and Coventry.

To them.., that’s what progress looks like.., and some are better than the players we paid £15 million each for, everyone can see that.., and league tables don’t lie.

I suspect his wife wouldn’t entertain a return to Suffolk or the UK in general so sadly he won’t be returning to us

Such a shame for him and his family. I hope they are all ok and the future pans out well for him and his family. He’s been a great servant to club. It would be nice to see him back at ITFC but regardless I hope all works out well for him.

100% still good enough for the championship, just hope he doesn't join a rival.
Maybe join Luongo at Millwall?

As good a player and captain as he was, I wouldn't want him back here in January. That great side has been largely dismantled and Morsy isn't getting any younger.

My guess is he'll find another club in that part of the world. Qatar, UAE, Saudi or maybe Turkey or Egypt. Can't see him coming back to England.

Can’t help but feel disappointed for SM and his family, who clearly viewed the Kuwait move as irresistible at this career point. Contract cancelled so comparatively early under ‘mutual consent’ banner, inevitably raises a number of questions - all of which are now academic. There, are, however numerous instances of players treading similar paths, only for the ‘promised land’ failing to meet expectations, leading to early returns and attempts to revive careers etc.

Would he be a good fit back here? Any decision - if indeed there is one to make - should only be for sound football reasons, in whatever capacity he rejoined.
