Ogbene 'Not in Blades Boss Wilder's Plans'
Sunday, 28th Dec 2025 10:26

On-loan Blues winger Chieo Ogbene is reportedly not in Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder’s plans for the second half of the campaign.

The Republic of Ireland international joined the Blades in August on loan for the season, largely in order to play more regularly as he returned to full fitness following his lengthy absence after rupturing his achilles at Brentford in October 2024.

Ogbene was a regular in the side until suffering a hamstring injury in Ireland’s 3-2 World Cup qualifier win in Hungary in November but hasn’t featured since.

Now, according to Alan Nixon, the 28-year-old isn’t in Wilder’s plans for the second half of the season.

Town have plenty of cover in Ogbene's right-sided attacking role - Sindre Walle Egeli, Kasey McAteer and Wes Burns - with no recall clause included in the deal and Nixon therefore suggests it would take another club to make an approach in January for the spell to be brought to an end.

However, having played for both Town and the South Yorkshiremen this season, Ogbene cannot play for a third club in 2025/26.

The former Luton Town winger will want to be playing regular football ahead of Ireland’s World Cup play-offs and then potentially place in the finals, but if Wilder isn’t keen on fielding him, may find himself kicking his heels.

As revealed on Tuesday, the Blades are keen to take Harry Clarke on loan for a second time in January, earlier reports of interest in Jack Clarke having been wide of the mark and quickly shut down by Blues boss Kieran McKenna.

Can we not just swap him with McAteer?

Hardly Town’s fault is it that SU don’t have a plan to play Ogbene. Feel sorry for the lad.

Decent player but not a great player who we paid far too much money for. He’s a really good lad as well so a good player to have in the camp but once again I’m not sure he’s at the level required. Scouting needs an update

This is a shame for Ogbene, an international that mainly just wants to get back to fitness. If Sheffield want Harry we should put a stipulation in his loan contract that says Ogbene MUST play and if he don't then Town can recall Clarke at any time (not just during the window)

Another one who wasn’t good enough for the Premier League. That said extremely unlucky with injury. Wish him well for the future, but looks like he’s not going to play much football for the remainder of the season. Shame for the lad.

I’m not sure we saw the best of Ogbene. He’s certainly fast. I’d have him back.

Perfect scenario is we loan MacAteer to them and get Ogbene back in exchange. Would be great wheeling and dealing if we could.
Harry Clarke needs to stay: he links with Burns so well. Happy for them to have Johnson instead though...

You have to question our recruitment. Who the hell is in charge and what the hell are we buying ?

This is a really unfortunate saga. Clearly a Burns replacement/rotation, and he's just been injured and unavailable from start to finish. I don't think this was necessarily bad recruitment, but just bad luck, of which we've had more than our fair share

Well they can keep him until the end of the season and pay his wages as we don’t want him back. Or they can give us a £million to take him back in January

It’s a season long loan, will they have pay us a fee if they cut it short?
Feel. Sorry for the lad!

The usual mindless crap about McAteer. who has played for two teams this season already and can't play for a third, and neither can Ogbone.
They can't just send him back because he has no break clause. Tough ***t Wilder.

Ogbene and McAteer - 2 players that have done/did diddly squat, must be the jinx of the right side.

TimmyH, we certainly haven't seen the value yet from Kasey, but at the beginning of the season we were saying exactly the same about Philogene and Clarke, both of whom took 6-12 months to get to grips and are now delivering.
Over the years Ive seen players slaughtered at PR and lose their way. David Johnson (version 1) in the 70s, Jermaine Wright, Sam Parkin, last season we saw Muric have a nightmare 10 minutes at City and get slaughtered to a point he lost confidence and interest in even being here, despite the fact he had the highest save percentage at 74.3% in the PL when he moved on.
Why don't we just give the players a bit of credit and space and actually jump all over them just to make ourselves sound as if we know what we are talking about? Delap hardly had a kick last season after xmas bar the goal at Bournemouth but got lauded, Egeli is struggling to overcome being double teamed but everyone says "hes gonna be great", no such faith in Kasey.....

Leicester saw us coming with mcateer I'm afraid..waving our cheque book to the tune of 12 million...probably the worse signing of the season in the championship. Absolute head wobbler.... now burns is back mcateer shouldn't even get near the bench barring injuries

Get off Mcateers back FFS. Grinding him into the floor...leave the poor sod alone.Ok, it's taking a while to get going but the bloke is trying....and you lot booing before he's kicked a ball are not helping....idiots.!!! Same lot i suppose who got onto Philogene and Clarke and many others before giving them a fighting chance. Get behind the boys, not on their backs. COYB.

I'm just waiting for someone to blame Kasey McAteer for Russia invading Ukraine! Please get off the guys back, if anyone's at fault it's recruitment, not him.
