Drury Joins Crawley
Monday, 17th Jun 2013 18:20

Released Blues midfielder Andy Drury has joined his former loan club Crawley Town on a two-year deal, despite having dismissed claims that he had held talks with the League One side earlier today. Drury, 29, spent a successful spell at the Broadfield Stadium in 2011 while with Town.

Drury says he is pleased to be returning to the Sussex club: "I'm delighted to be back at Crawley Town, a few things have changed but to be back here feels great.

“I'm hoping to create and score as many goals as I can in what is a very competitive league next season. I've been impressed by the gaffer and the group of players we have here. I'm thrilled to be back.

Manager Richie Barker added: “What I like about Andy as much as anything is his versatility. He can play in either central midfield or in wide areas. He has terrific energy and can also weigh in with his share of goals.

“He is coming here for the right reasons. He acquitted himself well in the Championship and wants to play at that level again.

“He’s the sort of player I want at the club, someone who is good in possession, works hard and has the right attitude, so I’m delighted he’s coming to us and I’m sure our fans are too because I know he was extremely popular during his loan spell with us.”

The Blues will face Drury and Crawley in a pre-season friendly at the Broadfield Stadium on Wednesday 10th July.

Drury became Paul Jewell’s first Town signing when he joined from Luton for a fee of £150,000 in January 2011. He went on to make 46 starts and 18 sub appearances, scoring four goals.

I know a couple of people have said I'm writing a post on this subject but I don't know where they got it from. I've spoken with a couple of people but but I'm not writing a post.

'can also weigh in with his share of goals' !!!!

Don't think 4 from 46(18 sub) is a particularly good 'share'.

He was hard working I'll admit .Just not good enough sadly at our level.

..... Good Luck Andy - sound squad player - never let anyone down. Without replacement will / would be missed from that point.

Good luck Andy, I always thought that you did a wholehearted stint for us, with the eye for a good pass. I am pleased that you have rejoined Crawley, you looked the business last time that you were there.

I only remember him scoring two goals Phil? Home to Bristol and away to Leeds. He didn't score last season did he?

Good luck to him, couldn't quite cut it at our level consistently but was a good servant for two and a half years. Can see him being excellent in that league.

Good honest Pro.
Just missing that extra bit of flair/guile that we need.
Best of Luck though Andy

All the best fella - had a good spell alongside Hyam in midfield when PJ was manager but never quite made it and as mentioned a good squad player.

Don't really understand why he claimed not to have spoken to them ... but nonetheless I wish him luck. Had one good spell under PJ - alongside Hyam - but like many others was dropped after one poor game. Having said that, I personally believe league one is his level and think he'll do okay. Good move all round. Gave 110%, but not quite good enough IMO.

Maybe he didn't speak to Crawley - maybe his agent did. And, it's impossible to give 110% - you can only give 100%.

He can play out wide can he!? Don't think so.

jas0999 - just goes to prove that not all deals take a lifetime of loan periods to complete. Credit to Crawley and the player for doing the deal quickly - essence of a settled pre season for both parties.

Keanish. Yes he can play out wide, had done so all his career until coming to Ipswich, and played on the wing for his entire spell at Crawley. With the shackles off should be able to get forward more, and resume chipping in with a few goals

Andy Drury is never a winger! He may have played there but a winger he is not.

Keanish - agree at this level but then Tabb? Murphy?

Unless you can bend it like Beckham or have pace on the wings then you are never going to cut it, unfortunately Drury can do or has neither. Always a trier and I wish him all the best. However, signing players like him for free, let alone £150k are the reasons why Town haven't had so much as a whiff of the play-offs in 8 years and Norwich are in the PL.

As for Murphy on the wing, don't make me laugh. Fine up front but never want to see him on the wing again and I doubt he wants to see himself there either! Tabb is a good player and I am pleased we have him, but not sure where MM believes his best position is, I wouldn't say he is a winger.
