That Depressed Trudge Back Home From Portman Road Written by CherryHintonBlue on Monday, 8th Oct 2012 15:38
Just a quick dive back into the archives today, because there's not much to say here: you have been watching the worst home start in the club's history. Ever.
Let's just digest that home record: Played 5 Won 0 Drawn 2 Lost 3 This is only the thirteenth season - ever - that Town's first five home league matches at home have failed to produce more than a point a game: 1949-1950 | League (3rd Tier) | A Scott Duncan | P(H)5 | W1 | D2 | L2 | F10 | A10 | Pts5 | 1969-1970 | League (1st Tier) | Bobby Robson | P(H)5 | W1 | D2 | L2 | F3 | A3 | Pts5 | 1971-1972 | League (1st Tier) | Bobby Robson | P(H)5 | W1 | D2 | L2 | F4 | A5 | Pts5 | 2001-2002 | League (1st Tier) | George Burley | P(H)5 | W1 | D2 | L2 | F5 | A5 | Pts5 | 1938-1939 | League (3rd Tier) | A Scott Duncan | P(H)5 | W1 | D1 | L3 | F6 | A10 | Pts4 | 1963-1964 | League (1st Tier) | Jackie Milburn | P(H)5 | W1 | D1 | L3 | F7 | A13 | Pts4 | 1964-1965 | League (2nd Tier) | Jackie Milburn | P(H)5 | W1 | D1 | L3 | F6 | A13 | Pts4 | 1982-1983 | League (1st Tier) | Bobby Ferguson | P(H)5 | W1 | D1 | L3 | F5 | A7 | Pts4 | 1985-1986 | League (1st Tier) | Bobby Ferguson | P(H)5 | W1 | D1 | L3 | F2 | A6 | Pts4 | 1978-1979 | League (1st Tier) | Bobby Robson | P(H)5 | W1 | D0 | L4 | F3 | A7 | Pts3 | 1994-1995 | League (1st Tier) | John Lyall | P(H)5 | W1 | D0 | L4 | F6 | A10 | Pts3 | 2009-2010 | League (2nd Tier) | Roy Keane | P(H)5 | W0 | D3 | L2 | F3 | A9 | Pts3 | 2012-2013 | League (2nd Tier) | Paul Jewell | P(H)5 | W0 | D2 | L3 | F5 | A9 | Pts2 | You'll notice that only once before (just three years ago) have we failed to win any of the first five matches. That season, under Roy Keane, you'll remember we finally broke our duck in the eighth home game, against Derby County. Let's hope it doesn't go that long in 2012.

The strangest thing is the anomaly for the 94/95 season. Only one win in six home matches and we beat Manchester United. And then Leeds in the seventh (they were top five that year). Well it's Derby next up, maybe they'll enjoy letting us win again.

I'm starting to wonder if this is my fault. First season ticket I've bought in a few years (just bought tickets on the day normally) and we still haven't won a home game. Maybe I should stay at home for one and see what happens!!

I'm getting increasingly concerned with the gap forming. Although it is only 4 points at present that, in reality, is at least 2 wins away (because those teams above are likely to pick up at least 1 point in 2 games). Once we get to Hull, and if we lose, then we are possibly going to be as far as 3 wins away from a safe position. At that stage we will REALLY be in the mire (we are just paddling at present). In short (although I think he was wrong fgor ITFC from day 1) surely even Marcus Evans will remove Jewell if we dont get a minimum of a win against Hull.

obviously looking at the stats we shouldn't hire managers called bobby because nearly 50% of the bad seasons occurred under them........
