What would it be? Hit me up, I'm bored as hell.

Perfume - I can't remember the authour

It's about a perfume apprentice who hates the smell of people and only travels at night to avoid them. It's weird but good

Non fiction. Mandela by Anthony Sampson.

Fiction. The Magus by John Fowles.

I dare say some nostalgia at work here as it's been a while.

oddly i would also recommend the magus - i suspect it isn't a classic but when i read it it completely absorbed me for days and it was unputdownable in a slightly obsessive way.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Good shout, East of Eden too.

I've had that on my shelf for a couple of years, but don't know if I can bring myself to read it. In a similar vein, I've just finished Touching From A Distance, written by Ian Curtis's wife. I knew it wasn't going to end well, but it still got to me.

I'm currently near the end of From Beirut to Jerusalem by Thomas Friedman. It's a fantastic insight in to the conflicts in the Middle East. Quite old now but a great read. Will make you re-evaluate what you believe about the conflict whichever standpoint you come from.

I like these sort of books, Line in the Sand and Prisoners of Geography are two in a similar vein that I enjoyed, so I have bought this based on your recommendation. 29p plus delivery can't go too far wrong.

My own recommendation would be A Short History Of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson, as with all his books it is immensely readable and is very informative too.

Patrick Suskind wasn't it? Kurt Cobain's favourite book and he based Scentless Apprentice on it IIRC

Dead Souls, by Gogol.

Apart from being a work of genuine genius, it could set you off on a Russian literary adventure. It did me, anyway, and I love it.
