"It's all about results nothing else" 13:00 - Oct 30 with 9092 viewsArcher4721

It's a shame our supporters still need to be reminded about that.

Anyone involved in professional sport will tell you that.

Precisely. And MM's style of play and insistence to go for grafters over playmakers (and not even attempt to find a balance of the two) means we won't get the RESULTS we need to achieve the targets MM set himself in pre-season...

Thats a little selective.

7 defeats in 10 matches? Thats poor results in anyones books.

....also its about entertainment, sadly that idea is lost on some people.

Do you mean the young lad who barely had a kick at Burton and watched the game go over his head? Even Stuart Watson said of Saturday: why wasn't it possible to keep the ball on the deck and beat them that way rather than 'scrap it out'?

He's still playing him, and other players from our Academy. Which is what everyone wanted. Would you rather we'd lost 4-3 in game of flowing football by the way?

Ffs.

Why is it only ever a choice between grinding out a win or losing an entertaining game?

Who said it was?

But when we lose an entertaining game while playing well (Leeds) I don't see anyone going: "Ah well, we had a go."

Quite. Heaven forbid we win playing entertaining football!

If we lost a tight entertaining game but then won the next one playing the same cohesive style, we would be heading in the right direction - or at least a semblance of a direction. All we're doing now is running on a treadmill and the speed and gradient is steadily rising.

Selective hey?

What about the 7 wins from the first 10 matches! Which sadly is lost on some people.

Oh you mean the one game where Mick's plan of throwing all of his strikers on at the start actually worked? Just take a look also at where Sunderland are in the table right now.

We're on the outskirts of the play-offs while operating on a transfer budget comparable to the teams in the bottom six. Hardly running on a treadmill.

I loved the Burley era, and much of the Royle days. Goals, ball on the deck etc. There is a dangerous perception beginning that people are either Mick in or Mick Out, in the same way that people are described as cyclists or drivers when most cyclists own a car and most people who drive rode a bike at some point. The point is some are Ipswich fans who wish things were better but don't think McCarthy is doing a terrible job and some think someone else could spend as little and get much better football and better results in the same situation. Doesn't mean we don't love the club or want things to improve.

We are equal 3 th highest goal scorers in the league, or are goals not exciting enough for some now ?

We won against Brentford, Milwall and Burton with the same approach of throwing all our forwards on. We're amongst the top scorers in the league. But sure, if you ignore all evidence to the contrary everything is utter crap.

Of course we're running on a treadmill.

The club is up against it by being drip-fed the minimal amount of money it needs to survive each season.

The players are up against it because they spend more time chasing shadows and stopping the opposition game than imposing their own game.

I've never said McCarthy has done a 'terrible' job. I respect him for galvanising the club at a time when we needed it most (post-Jewell) but he's well and truly past his sell by date now.

Why?

He kept us up didn't he.

And the money we saved by not sacking got us our new players in this season.

Well, in the end you may be right and someone else might come in and turn us into serious promotion contenders. I would be as delighted as anyone if that happened because when all is said and done, the club is more important to me than who the manger, chairman or players are.

Also, please don't think I believe it's an easy task turning Town into genuine promotion contenders. It wouldn't be an overnight job for any new manager. But with the right balance on the pitch (square pegs in round holes), a measured playing style that encourages creativity and allows talent to express itself and a manager that understands the traditions of the club and is willing to work WITH the fans not repel against them, it's possible.
