The Ashes 2017/2018 Thread on 17:31 - Dec 13 by gainsboroughblue | You too eh? I'm actually off work I'm so bad at the moment. I'm never off sick between jan and Nov then suddenly I'm hit with a corker every start of December, without fail. Consequently I'll be watching each session I should imagine. |
Sorry to hear that, gws! I don't usually get colds either, but caught a stinker off tenant's teenage son in late Sept & it took weeks to shift, others said same, particularly nasty strain. Still got the racking cough, but then lungs hadn't been great for decades anyway.

I can feel it approaching for a week or so then it goes ape on me. Totally knocks me for six. Interesting start. Cook really is a concern. The Ashes down under generally ends one English career, I'm wondering if it's his time.

Morning all. At least we're batting but where has Cook's form gone? Ryorry - my cold is annoying and I have a sore nose from wiping but it's the cough which is really draining!

Looks a belter of a pitch. If we don't get 400 plus on here then we may as well go home. Obviously there is going to be pace out there but seeing off the new ball is totally key.

The outfield is lightning. If we're no worse than 2 down in the middle of the afternoon session, we should have a foundation. It'd be good to see Stoneman and Vince show that they're worth a place in the longer term.

Morning Rommy - hope you're well. I'd take a draw here, just to keep it alive, especially for the boxing day test. It looks like it will be hard work for the bowlers in this one.

Bad timing that one. I was just thinking we need to be 140-1 in the next session, rather than 120-4 - that wicket really changes the morning.

Dan Norcross has just described Perth as a bit like a hot Croydon. Remind me never to go to Perth.😀

Apparently originated in the S*n newspaper and completely unsubstantiated but always sad to hear. http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/21761154/ashes-test-overshadowed-spot-fix Maybe I'm naive but find it very hard to believe anyone playing in the Ashes is on the take, BB/IPL etc on the other hand would be shocked if it wasn't happening.

A strangle down the leg side is as an infuriating as it gets. This is seriously good and hostile stuff by Hazelwood and Cummins though.

We needed Root and Cook to show they're two of the best batsmen in the world to have a chance in this series. Their poor form is a big part of the reason that the series will be over before the halfway point.

I'm seriously doubting if there is a century in this England batting line up in this series.

If there is, it will come too late. We needed a couple of big scores in the first 5 innings. If we're 400-2 with Cook and Root on 150 each in the 4th match, that's not worth much. I do think Broad will bowl well here but we need over 400 on the board first.

It wasn't! There wasn't enough to overturn a not out decision at all. This bowling is good though, and not something we can replicate.

Nothing conclusive there, the 3rd umpire has maybe got a little fortunate, think he must have given it out on the spot on the glove off the bat. Think it probably tickled the top glove on the bat.

The Ashes 2017/2018 Thread on 07:19 - Dec 14 with 3901 views | christiand | Cook out cheaply again, he's having a shocker. Going to give Stoneman and Malan credit they have shown in this series that they can be test players for the foreseeable. However, a few others are playing for their test futures.

We're in as good a position as we were in Brisbane before we bolloxed that up for 302 all out. I can't help expecting the same to happen here. 267/4.

We're a positive bunch aren't we?! Seeing off this new ball is vital so we can get to a position a least not to lose from. The quick scoring rate means that 400 doesn't guarantee anything, as it might have in the previous games.
