I’m confident.

Root & Woakes have sound techniques & they can get through the 1st hour tomorrow if the Aussies start well & if they’re off line they will punish them.

I don’t make Aus as strong favourites as some do.

Ooooh you didn't say that! (^removes hex^)

It's starting to have something of the play-off semis v Bolton about it for me ...

It's the hope that kills you though, isn't it? If they'd only just gone and enforced the follow on, we'd have crumbled to 132 all out, and we'd all move on cheerfully to the next test wondering if Gary Ballance might be the answer to shore up the batting and avert a 5-0 stuffing.

You mark my words, Root won't make it past his usual 72, Woakes will nail a few cover drives for a 28, either Moeen or Bairstow will hit a carefree 46 and the other will give his wicket away for a duck in brainless fashion, and we'll lose by 88 runs.

176/4 at stumps, pretty much half-way there. Still looks a stretch but if Root can carry on as he has been...

And to think some people don't like Test match cricket.

Always add 2 wickets on....but yes a chance. When you see the sort of reaction players get from the crowd for taking a wicket, or what it means, particularly during the ashes, to get some runs, you realise pyjama cricket can never give them that.

How’s would people approach tomorrow? I would be so tempted to pretend it’s a 50 over target and try and score at that rate.
200 off 50 overs with our middle order would 8/10 chase that down.
Yes it’s a day 5 pitch not a 1 day pitch but will that really make much difference?

I don’t care how we do it just as long as we do it.

Most important thing is Root gets himself back in & goes on to get 120 plus.

Root has to bat all day in reality, whilst there are some in there who can score the runs if Root goes the belief will drain out of the side and good players like Mooen adn Bairstow won't hang around.

If we are still 4 down when I wake up I'll be delighted

I've managed to see about 3/4 of the Ashes so far but work put paid to seeing us bat for most of this morning. It looks like I'll have to leave with us needing about 40 with 3 wickets left tomorrow!

Great day though!

Has anyone seen Cooks dismissal in the 2nd innings. Aggers and Vaughan seemed very surprised when they were watching the review. Before the replay they were very confident that it was not out. Presumably it was just plumb and they got it wrong.

Vince is a frstrating player. I haven't seen the dimissal but the lads on the radio were not impressed

Need to try not to lose any early wickets then see off the new ball. If Woakes could add a handy 30 or so alongside Root in the first hour that'd be ideal, then just need to see off the new ball and the game is there for the taking. Won't happen though, we'll collapse and lose by about 100 runs.

Just tell themselves that if they play nervily or fearfully they'll lose anyway, so might as well set out with confidence and aggression - which does *not* mean being casual or taking unnecessary risks!

Absolutely. That's why Woakes hanging around for half a dozen overs and nicking 20 was important (rather than nicking his second ball instead!).
