The Ashes 2017/2018 Thread on 08:48 - Dec 4 by gainsboroughblue | I know it's not their fault for the situation but that was poor from Broad and Anderson with a guy on 40 odd the other end. |
It's OK - we'll skittle them for 80 under the lights and knock off the runs tomorrow. It'll be good to have a day off!

The Ashes 2017/2018 Thread on 08:50 - Dec 4 by The_Romford_Blue | Losing by 10 wickets is pretty much the same as losing by an innings though |
Root has called correctly at the toss both times so cannot have any complaints there.

Do you think we should have batted first here? It's probably a harder call for the day/night test. I actually think Australia should have enforced the follow on, even though it rarely happens now.

I honestly don't think it matters that much with the gulf between the two sides in these conditions.

Given that it's the same conditions for both sides for 5 days, I don't think it mattered. I think most tests I like the idea of bowling last. My point was more that root has had the opportunity to do what he likes both times so can't bemoan that.

I'm sure sides batting first must win more tests than not. I can understand sometimes bowling first under grey skies in Nottingham or Leeds but, more often than not, it's better to get runs on the board. I think Root's decision was influenced by previous results in the day/nighters.

Jimmy gets Khawaja, looks like he's bowled a magnificent spell, all in vain unfortunately.

Now Warner's gone. I said 80 all out! Jimmy has bowled beautifully. If we had some genuine pace and a decent spinner, we'd be in this series. Oh, and a decent all-rounder...

He doesn't give many chances so you might be right. We've got no chance really but that might have been the end of any slim one! If they'd been 50-5 with Smith and Warner out, we'd have had a sniff...

Absolutely! We need this spell to have seen them 6 or 7 down - they can easily add 150 tomorrow and have 5 sessions to get us out. It's livened up though!

Make the first 2 & half days even more frustrating.
